- UPDATE - I called Ralph and asked him about the stitching to my jacket. Without hesitation, he paid to have it shipped back to him. They fixed the stitching free of charge and sent it back to me. The repair was double stitched this time and seems solid. I will see how it holds up this winter.

Nice thorough review. I just paid for the full weight anorak. I hope it lives up to the hype. They don’t give these away, but I feel they are worth it-from what I’ve seen. Many blessings!!
Thanks for watching. I think you'll love the anorak. Expensive but it's the best.
I do not own the All Around Jacket but I do own the Hooded Jacket and I can say the Quality and workmanship is 2nd to none and the wool is sooo wonderful. Ralph will make the Jacket right! Just something to ponder, A products Value is completely subject to a persons situation and is marketed as LUXERY WOOL APPAREL. For those of us who like to indulge ourselves on these type of items really don't need to hear in what situation an item would be WORTH the price. Facts are KING. Thanks.
I'm sure Ralph will be able to fix my stitching.
You completely nailed it with your comment about the fire and the burning ember, you will always be paranoid about hurting a jacket like this. That's why I have a inexpensive, wool hunting jacket that I got in a thrift shop. I don't give a care if a burning amber lands on it as long as I don't get set on fire
Haha no kidding. Love cheaper clothing for that reason. However, I will say this wool has handled any and all embers like a champ sitting around fires.
Thanks for the honest evaluation - I own an AAJ, an XL anorak, and two 2XL anoraks - I miss the kidney pass-through pocket over the Filson double Mac - maybe the inside pockets could be bigger - My Werather Wool is multiple times warmer than Filson though. I agree - for city folk that run from house to car to grocery store - you don't need this - for someone who will be outside for hours/days, it is worth the $. I bet Ralph fixed that seam - he will stand behind his work!
Thanks for the reply. I am fully confident he will fix the jacket. If he changed one of the lower inside pockets to a mesh pocket for gloves and moved it up closer to your ribs to store them without too much bulk and then just made one of the inside chest pockets a few inches bigger I think the pockets would be perfect.
Mine is the exact same style as yours, but was a first-run Lynx. It had fraying around the button holes. Ralph told me a couple of them did. They sent me a prepaid shipping label and fixed it no muss or fuss. Fine company, fine product, even finer people. As for the water resistance, I use this as my cold weather rain jacket. I'm sure water will get through it at some point but I haven't been able to get water through this yet. For the fire resistance, I was deep into a MIG project when I realized I was wearing my midweight hoodie. I could see up the arms where the slag hit, but zero performance change and over time it's difficult to tell where the slag hit.
I need to do a follow up video. Definitely will update the info in the description of this video at least.
Ralph sent me a pre paid label and I sent the jacket back and got it back shortly after with the jacket re stitched where needed. No fuss at all. Easy as just a simple phone call.
Fantastic detailed review.
I use the back pocket on my Filson Mackinaw Cruiser all the time, it's great for oversized items.
I wish WheatherWool would come out with more colorways.
Thanks for watching. I don't know how often I'd use that back pocket since I don't have one. But I have a feeling I'd find use for it. The real reason I want it though is for the extra wool. The back just feels like it needs that little extra when I'm bent over working on something and that wind and snow is hitting my back side.
I found the upper inside pockets way too small as well. The stitching was also not quite up to the level I was expecting. The wool is amazing and it is a great jacket it just seems to need a few more tweaks.
Yeah, some refinement would be great. The wool is the star. The Fit is also great once you figure out your size. They just need to refine the pockets a bit and work on the stitching.
love that wool ! ive got the anorak. warm, soft, durable. had it for 7 years. ive got a review of it on my channel. thank you for all the info on your review.
Thanks for watching! Wish I could afford some more of it hahaha
I really appreciate the honest review. For $900 and u mention stitching issues. Regardless of honoring a repair, it shouldn’t have ever gotten past quality control. I’m going to stick with Boreal Mountain Anoraks. Thanks again!😁
Glad you found the review helpful. All my product reviews on my channel are honest. The good and the bad. I don't know if the stitching would be a concern on every jacket since they are all handmade and there is still a ton to like about this jacket, but if you've got something that works already....
I like that the yoke extends all around the front and (presumably), forms the flaps of the upper breast pockets.
No upper breast pockets on the outside. They have 2 internal pockets there.
I wish the yoke extended to give the back a second layer further down but it does look good this way.
I have the AAJ in Lynx and the Hooded Jacket in drab. The Hooded jacket is spot on, the way it should be, IMO. I do think with the AAJ, Weatherwool should diversify the fabrics used beyond just wool. It would be an enhancement to the AAJ to have functional parts like wrist cinches, pocket flaps (possibly even the pockets too), and elbow patches made of a more durable/functional material such as Cordura ripstop nylon or something similar.
Pockets being made of another material would certainly help. Fjallraven does this with their g1000 material and it's great.
So this jacket can keep you warm in minus degrees with just a shirt underneath?
@niconicoo5661 minus C maybe but not minus F. You'll need some layers to be comfortable in minus F degrees.
Cuantos años te puede durar mas q filson?😅
I absolutely love the look of these jackets, specially the Lynx pattern. then I saw the price tag and almost spat out my coffee. I'll say this, I am not cheap and understand a really good jacket is going to cost some money.... but almost $900 is insane. I am willing to pay more for quality and North American made, but that's pretty hard to justify.
Summed up my review lol
What size are you wearing and how much is your wt. thank you so much
XS - a smidg over 5ft 6in at 165 up or down 5 lbs depending on winter weight.
It is worth the price tag if you can count on it for the extreme purpose it was built for ; It absolutely does! What you end up using for has bearing what it is worth. That's your problem.
My problem? The jacket is an all around jacket marketed to be used in both the woods and in the city alike. I'm not sure what you mean by "extreme purpose". But I've used it as both an everyday jacket and for winter camping. So my usage reflects its intended purpose which allows me to objectively consider its worth.
My opinion, hurry and grab the double hood, it's crucial. They sell those fast
The hood usually won't match unless you get it at the same time as the jacket. I opted to not get the hood but they do look comfy.
What size jacket is that?
Small
What's your height and weight?
Youre an expensive guy ;P love.the reviews...someone has to do Gods work, so we all dont have to spend the cash! Thanks!
Haha, I'm glad I could be of service.
Could not imagine wearing this completely socked in rain water
Haha me either. Survivalist folks like to test it hard-core out there. To each there own. Not my use case, so I'll forgo that testing.
Sure wish the back was not so ugly with that stupid looking flap.
I don't mind the flap since its extra wool. The pointed end is supposed to let water drip off but I find that a but of a gimmic.
I wish that flap went all the way down and was just 2 layers of fabric.
Not worth it! You can purchase the fabric by the yard and make it yourself for ⅓ the cost.
I didn't know you could buy that wool off his website. I'd be interested in seeing that link. That would be awesome to create whatever wool product I want myself.
