- So, I basically cut to the frame for every shot of Crowley in these scenes (with a bit of extra Aziraphale in a few places for Reasons) that were included. Leaving things more complete gets the video blocked for copyright, alas (there were a few tries). I figure that works fine since this is a closer look at what exists in full in official places anyway. I hope y’all enjoy!

Here I thought, the reason why they made him wear those glasses is, so they don't have to edit his eyes all the time. Guess I was wrong

Jenn A yup, they were lenses, though there were still scenes where they had to edit his eyes a bit because sometimes they had trouble getting them to stay exactly the right side up.
They're both such great actors. I can't get over how expressive his eyes are even though they're mostly hidden because of the glasses..this honestly enhanced a lot of expressions in a lot of major scenes. Thank you for your work ♥

I love being able to see how intensely he stares all the time. It really adds to the snakeyness and it’s an awesome detail.
I'm almost grateful his eyes were hidden behind the sunglasses during the most intense scenes like the Alpha Centauri one because otherwise I would've cried my soul out of my body seeing how DEVASTATED he was.
On the other hand, I wish we could see more of his eyes because 1) they're really pretty and 2) they're literally a window to his soul. When his eyes show, Crowley's emotions get 1000 times more intense and I'm just- YES.

Makes sense. The guy wants to stop the apocalypse and that's the key to whether it happens or not, and it worries him that they'll fail.

I love how Crowley went from tempting Aziraphale into murdering a child to begging him stop doing magic within the span of a few seconds
I love how Crowley gets annoyed with Aziraphale’s magic trick lol makes you think how many times Aziraphale’s tried his magic tricks onto Crowley 😊
You'd think by now he'd have done something about his annoyance by filling the role of Aziraphale's lovely assistant, performing all the actual magic and saving the show. Perhaps now that they're free... :P
Coming back from S2, I can almost hear the flashbacks from Crowley after (what I assumed) the last time Aziraphale did a magic act 😭

After Season 2, his reaction here makes even more sense. Even though that gun was aimed at Aziraphale, I believe it was Crowley who nearly got discorporated by having a heart attack in that scene

Man, you really miss out on a lot of the desperation in his expressions around the 7:00 mark because of the hidden eyes. And the pause before blinking right after the "there is no our side" line... gah, he looks so stricken and hurt right before covering it up.
I think that speaks to David as an actor tho, because he must've known that those glasses would have hidden his eyes completely, and this is a role that heavily relies on facial expressions, so being able to convey those emotions despite having his eyes hidden is incredible.

Actually, taking contact lenses in and out unnecessarily during the day would just irritate the eyes and add to the risk of eye infection from handling the lenses repeatedly.

I actually asked Neil Gaiman on tumblr about if David Tennant had to wear those contacts the whole time while they were filming, because you can see his eyes underneath in a lot of scenes. He actually responded and said that he did expect scenes when they were filming in the dark. Guess this is just more evidence to support that lmao.

Can we just applaud the sfx team for editing his eyes even when you cant really see it, and on the flip if it's not sfx and contacts the makeup team keeped them straight
I think there is some CGI going on even behind the glasses, because in the scene where they're discussing killing Warlock, and he says "one life...against the universe," I swear his pupils dilate.

What’s most amazing to me is that his expressions and eye directions read nearly as clearly even when those lenses are opaque. That’s no easy feat.

Honestly, I believe that wearing contacts should make not blinking much easier. Most staring contests I lose are because I get some dirt spec or a gust of wind in my eye. contact lenses prevent both of those things from happening. When I wear contact lenses, I'm pretty much guaranteed to win at staring contests.
