    "OHKINI" means like that "Thank you very much" at Kansai in Japan.

    sorry but when I saw the maiko with her make up on crying cause the other girl was leaving, I couldn't help but chuckle a bit cause of the scene in memoirs where okisan tells pumpkin "stop crying or your face will run" LOL. I actually loved that line..

    I wonder if the geisha mother tries hard to make sure the girls that want to be maiko dont quit. Hoping the time and money invested in them doesn't go to waste.

    There is quite a lot of difference between maiko and geiko. Firstly hairstyle, if you put pictures of the hairstyles next to each other you will the difference. Basically, geiko hairstyle doesn't have the top bun and they wear subtle kanzashi. No hana kanzashi.
    Then there is the kimono,maiko have the long flowing sleeves were as geiko are shorter. Geiko also tie their obi in a elaborate otaiko musubi rather the maiko who wear a special obi called a darari obi. This is 6 metre long and giv

    Does anyone know what exactly the okasan give to her? I guess it's two (or four?) fans, these bags where maiko transport their stuff to appointments and....what else?

    @goldengirl2384 becoz she was sick, and she needed to leave and as the new girl came, she thought thats the perfect time to leave.

    @goldengirl2384 Actually, that girl gave up to be Maiko because there are a lot of strict rules and it's too hard to endure the lessons to be Maiko (Geiko).

    Yikes thats a crowded okiya. how many maiko and geiko are stuffed in there.
