Wow! You have raised the bar so far for ceramic videos! Amazing and engaging! Thanks for this, my students will be disappointed that magical beings don’t come to life every time we make something.
Thank you very much, I try to make videos that are both educational and entertaining so that it can interest as many people as possible. It's really the videos that I like to do, I hope it's a good bet, the future will tell me...
Oh my god that pot looks incredible! Your editing skills keep improving from video to video. This was the cutest video to date. Your "apprentice" was fantastic lol
I recently went on a pottery workshop to try and make my own bonsai pot. Your videos make it seem all too easy, making a pot is far harder than it looks. All I can add that having tried to make a pot and now I know how hard it is, your work is even better than I thought it was before.
When I made my first videos I wanted to show how difficult and long it is to make a pot, and I quickly realized that it had the opposite effect and that my videos gave this impression of ease. It's probably because I'm used to it and my movements are safe. For example I remember that for my first pots it took me a lot of time to crush the coils and make the welds without deforming the pot, today it only takes me a few minutes.
Thank you. In each video I dwell more on a part of the process. In this one I didn't show the holes and the glazing but you can see it in other videos. For the glaze it's the same technique as in this video for example: ruclips.net/video/6XY23Vnzn7o/видео.html
This video and this channel is underated. Watched it for the first time today and I cannot understand how RUclips hadn't suggested it to me earlier. It's such a unique combination of a technical and a entretaining video with a fine mix of film techniques. Please keep it up. This is REAL content.
Thank you very much for your comment. My old videos are more "classic", but over time they become more entertaining and more elaborate, it suits me better and I take much more pleasure in making them.
Beautifully done. I've just started to make a coiled bonsai pot, still wet, and honestly, it is way harder than it looks so I appreciate any info I get from these videos that helps. Next I want to try making you're slab pot! Thank you ❤
I gotta real soft spot for your apprentice. Often feel sad for the hapless little goof. Thanks for bringing him along in your excellent and informative posts.
Yeah great video. As in what may perhaps be the best instructional video I have ever seen. The amount of time and creativity that went into the animations and editing must have been redicilous. It's clear your trying to impress and I think you nailed it!! Liked and subscribed and with a little more of a steady income I would be a Patreon. Much love from Belgium!
Thank you so much. My goal is to share my work and that the video does not seem endless, to combine education and entertainment. I want people to enjoy looking at it, even if they're not interested in pottery. In any case, I had fun doing it, and that too is important!
@@Greg-ceramics Well your very welcome. I really hope that these videos catch on so you can continue to make them. I had some schooling in video and really appreciate the time spent on the animations! The little helper is sublime, as is the idea of the animation showing wich side your working on and finished item rising out of the slab of clay. The editing on attaching the feet I thought to be quite revolutionary! The whole video is just so professional and we'll made, you're really upping the level of instructional videos here. I'm really wondering if it's just you making the videos and how many hours went into the making of this particular video. Except for that I think the pots are stunning and I'm wondering how many trees I've seen in them on the Belgian bonsai show. I'll be looking for your name from now on, big fan!
I love your videos. They're funny, (claymation man!😂) and interesting with a calming background music. All in all superbly done. I used to study claymation (Jiri Trnka) and made puppet films. Lots of work besides teaching interesting potmaking techniques. ❤😊❤
Wow. Great video. Your attention to detail is amazing!!! I use the same clear ruler to do most of my work. All the little extras are fun to watch as well. I wish I had known there was a different kind of slab roller than the one I have. I haveto adjust both sides of mine and one side is lose so you really can’t tell what it’s set at!!! Thanks so much for sharing these videos.
This is so cool! I found your comment under some channel makers video and went to look, and wow, your editing and style is amazing. Cute and creative and calming. And i love the music. Good job ❤
There is no specific time, it's a bit of a feeling. If you absolutely have to turn it over, you can put plates or pieces of clay in support. Most of the time I often put small wooden pieces underneath for the first days of drying.
Thanks. It's a homemade blend of different stoneware. But there wouldn't be much point in knowing which clay I use, it's best to understand how to choose the right one for you. I recommend this video to learn how to choose your clay: ruclips.net/video/OC3BhPejUWU/видео.html 😉
I'm not waiting, I'm flip it right away. If the bottom is not firm enough, I put a temporary support inside. You can see this in some of my other videos.
Wonderful video, very cute assistant. :) Question: To get the black accent color around the pot edges, are you spraying or brushing? Is it underglaze or an oxide wash? Thanks in advance!
Hi. Great videos, I'm waiting for beginner to master series, even though I'm making pots for some time now. There's one thing that I can't understand - what is the purpose of internal edge? Doesn't it make more difficult to repot bonsai tree?
It's just a question of aesthetics, on certain massive pots, the thickness of the pot is too thin compared to the rest of the pot. I don't always use it, it depends if I want a very masculine pot, or if I want something lighter and feminine. It's never been a problem for me to repot. At worst, I use a blade all around the pot to help the root ball come out. In any case, it is the roots that will have to be pruned.
Hi Greg, I love your pots had the chance to see them live on the 2023 trophy. Just one question regarding you pots, how do you get this smoth colour shape from dark brown / black to light brown? Is it Manganspinell and you spray it? KR Dietmar
It would be very nice if you could do a video about this process? I believe a lot of guys would like to see it. But if it is your secret it is absolutely fine. Just which oxyde do you use? KR Dietmar
Merci pour ces vidéos très amusantes, et le travail ... magnifique ! comme à chaque fois! Avez-vous appliqué un oxyde sur votre terre pour avoir cet effet clair foncé ?
Yes it is clay for pottery, stoneware. You need to find a pottery material supplier near you or an online supplier, but the clay is heavy, it's expensive to ship.

Magnifique travail !!!!
Et l'apprenti, il faut l'embaucher 😂
Merci Christel. Je ne sais pas si je vais l'embaucher, mais je vais probablement lui laisser une seconde chance dans un futur épisode :D
Beautiful pot and the animation makes video fun to watch too. Thank you!
Thanks for watching 😉 🙏
That is an absolutely fantastic kengai pot Greg!!! I may need one of those sharpish! Lovely stuff mate!
That’s a great video Greg
Thanks Nick, glad you like it.

How long is it necessary to wait to turn the pot over to put the legs on it? Do I have to wait for the stoneware to dry a bit?

I just started following! Love watching your videos! So many good tips and also great fun! How do you add the little clay person in the video?😅
thank you, I spend a lot of time on my videos
Splendid and magnifique, what clay body is it? And what temp did you fire it? If you please, Thanks a lot
Thank you. It is a mixture of several stoneware (brown, black, red) fired at about 1240 °C

@@Greg-ceramics Thank you. It's beautiful.

An oxide wash with a brush and sponge.

What type of clay and glaze are you using?
It is a mixture of several sandstones. The pot is not glazed, just iron oxide juice.

oui, un jus d'oxyde de fer
What washes did you use on this pot?
just iron and sponge
Can you make a pot with external rim not internal rim cuz we face problems to get the trees out of the pot because of the internal rim
Is it the same material as clay for pottery? and how can you buy the ingredients online?
Yes it is clay for pottery, stoneware.
