Mark, I was so excited to take a seat and grab a brew to find out more about how to use my watch. So I sat down with my beer and boom...Mark is drinking tea. #cultureshock. On a more serious note, I recommend the “race screen” data field for Garmin users. It allows you to program a set distance and use the lap button to recalibrate the estimated finish time when you cross an official mile/km course marker. It is massive help in dealing with those gps inaccuracies when accuracy counts. Cheers! 🍻

Thanks for this vid... very helpful!
One little tip that I’ve been given recently - and please forgive me if this was really obvious to everyone else - relates to the HR functionality.
I’d been getting very poor accuracy for Hr monitoring with the Vantage V on the gym treadmill and couldn’t understand why. Someone then pointed out to me that, before I started to record the session, I needed to wait for the HR value to change from a red circle to a blue box so that I knew that the signal from my HR strap was being received.
This has transformed the accuracy of the watch, although I don’t know why the HR signal was performing so poorly from just the wrist...

Great video. I'll be switching from my Suunto Spartan as they are getting rid of their online platform. I've been looking at Polar Flow and think this is a great web service for analysing data - especially comparing a segment of one year to another. Quick question re: finding HR zones - why didn't you mention the Karvonen method?

I like having current pace and average lap pace on same screen. I normally have a specific pace in mind for the lap. This makes it easy to see if I have to speed up/slow down to finish lap at desired average. I use workouts on my garmin for interval sessions no need to press lap button 👍🏻

How lucky to live in that beautiful area indeed! Nice video, I do own a vantage v but to be honest I only use it to randomly monitor my training sessions when I cycle or swim (I don'trun that much but would like to do more). Any hint on how to use it more consistently? Like measuring initial values (max hr etc.), planning trainings and measuring progress? Pretty broad question I know, just trying 😁...

But you should be honest, that vantage V is step back after v800 in accuracy and amount of showing information in watches

I think context is really important. All smartwatch manufacturers use the same chips (like Sony for GPS) that currently have the best quality/price ratio. Another aspect is how Vantage stacks against its competition. Usually, Polar offers a watch that is truly multi sport in mid range price ($200). Meanwhile Garmin reserves multi sport for their $500+ watches like 7xx and up. Wrist HR accuracy is only useful for steady aero base building and measuring your Resting HR - all current gen watches are accurate enough for it. Nothing more nothing less. Don't expect perfect readings from your wrist.

I'm guessing I'm not training to my full potential because l only use a watch with an app to follow my time and distance. All this fancy stuff just seems too complicated. I suppose that's why I'll always be last in my age group racing!!!🤣🤣 However, l did just buy a speed and cadence sensor for my bike!!! Great information, I'm just not smart enough to understand it all!!😁

I use a HR chest strap. Which obviously gives more exact data. But I worry that it restricts my chest in breathing. Especially when i tire and breath less from the diafragm. Am i imaging this?

    Bike Computer vs 2nd Watch...?
Hi GTN, not sure if you'll see this on an older video. I was wondering if you or anyone else could please share some advice... I currently have a Garmin Fenix 3 HR watch that I use for tracking all of my triathlon training. I recently got a powermeter for my bike and I'm looking into getting a bike computer to train and race with power. Obviously having something on the bike between the TT bars would be the best case scenario so I can just glance down and see my numbers without changing my aero position much.
What are your thoughts on getting a newer updated watch (eg Fenix 6X) instead which would become my main tracking device and then mounting and using my Fenix 3 as a bike computer? Are there any downsides to this in training or racing over buying a bike computer?
The watch is lighter, records and displays the same data, screen size and amount of data displayed at once is the only downside that I can think of.
    Anyone's thoughts/advice would be appreciated :)
    Thanks

Hi guys, I would like to ask to you and also all the comunity. I would like to buy a polar watch for multisport, but I have not decided which to choose between polar ingite or the polar vantage. Did anyone try ? What do you think ? ( assuming that the price is not a problem)

wangshuishui2121 you can pair a cycling power meter, but not the inbuilt power meter. That is specific to running only

Pff, all that new age stuff. My forerunner from 2010 is good enough xd But yea erhm, sportwatches has improved, well smart watches is more fitting. Just not having to use the heartrate strap on your chest is nice, cause its kinda crappy to measure with unless you pre-wet it and make sure it sits good all session.
