Looks like it is in really nice condtion.Engine runs quietly. I bought a '68 Mach I back in '72. Had 19,000 miles on it. Paid $1825 from a Ford dealership. Still have it in 2023. White with red interior. Not a hi-perf. model. 390 4bbl., Cruisematic. P.S., P.B. Was quick enough, for my 23 year old self, who was driving a '66 Ford Custom 2dr. 240 6 cyl. 3 on the tree. Was actually a good car. Those full sized Fords from the '60s were well made vehicles. Many of them were made not far from where I live. The Ford plant in Hapeville,Ga.
When you buy tires put white wall tires on it. That is what most cars of that era used and they look good. I am old, my pickup uses fifteen inch tires and I have white walls on it. I have had many positive comments on them.
Thanks for the comment and watching. It had white walls on it originally, and we didn’t really like it. So when we put tires on it the first time we went black wall out to make it look more like a ‘shine runner. A lot of people liked the look when we did take it to a couple of cruise ins. It’s the better half’s car, so if she wants white walls the next time then that’s what we will do. If she wants black walls then that’s what we will do.
I have 94 Buick Park Avenue I have owned for 27 years. It is very sharp looking car indeed. When car was three years old, I put whitewall tires on it. Car is a beautiful light blue and Whitewall tires really complement it. I get complements on how great this old Buick looks every year. I will always put ww tires on this car as it is super sharp in appearance.
O my, how this brings back memories. All those modifications that we made to some many over the years. Tuneups were required all most monthly. Lube jobs and undercarriage washes were also needed. 12 volt conversions were required. After that came modification - twin carburetors, dual exhausts, etc. oh and don’t forget finned aluminum heads..
I had a 51 Ford Custom with the 239 flatty. Mine was s fordoor. The engine was tired and used a lot of oil. Even so it ran good as long as the crank-case was kept full.
This vehicle has two thermostats- one on the top of each cylinder head. Also two water pumps/front motor mounts! Try a carb kit with accelerator pump plus a good tune-up. Sweet old car!
As I drove my 51 Ply to Jr College in 1960 I drove by everyday a Ford Coupe just like that. It had a big 8 ball painted on the back finder and on the back glass was written “8 BALL” Had a v8 olds if I remember right.
Just started watching the 'Starting the old Ford" clip again, and noticed that you said "Possum", not "Raccoon". Still would like to buy the '51 Ford...
It was a possum. I saw him one time. Actually reached up in there to pull the leaves out while he was sleeping (not knowing he was in there.) I felt something warm and furry and pulled my hand back out. He slowly turned around, poked his head out the hole and gave me a "why did you wake me up?" kind of look. LOL
If you verify your tyres frequently and has no bulging on the sidewalls or notchiness or bumps than they'r good to go nothing to worry about,it shouldn't just explode out of the blue with no avertisments beforehand. And it's a good idea to keep the pressure right never underinflated.
Somebody would had to have put some fresh gas in the tank recently and replaced the fuel pump. This car had to have been kept running up until last year to start up this easily. It is in fantastic shape. A good polish job on the paint and some chrome polish and steel wool on the bumpers will make it look great.
Bogging down (flat spot) when starting off? Probably you need to advance the timing a tad. You know you're turning the distributor the right way if the idle speeds up. The old rule of thumb for setting timing is to set it where you get a very small amount of ping on hard acceleration (in other words, under load).
I’ve been thinking the same thing. I had the distributor out when I replaced a guide and valve assembly, and I set it back to the factory mark. But its always had that small flat spot right off idle, even with two different carbs on it.
I did. I edited out most of that cuz it was not good entertainment. When the battery is low like that, it's just a struggle to start. I was admittedly a bit heavy on the ether. LOL
Dude I love the videos. Ur a good racer , but I'd love to drive your mustang. I'm pretty good at running pro and footbrake. Just throwing that out there. I'd be honored to try to win you money!
The gasoline has deteriorated to the point that it will not combust. Gasoline has a limited tank life. On a gasoline lawn mower, if the gas is left in the tank all winter, it will not start. He needs fresh gas.
Wish you knew more? It's not the space shuttle, it's all basic old school. Jeepers. Carb probably needs a good service and a new accelerate pump in it. As great as your car is, it has the same technology as your Toro lawnmower
Dude your useing way too much either and you have to pump the gas petal while your starting when their cold. Most flatheads will fire as soon as gas gets in the carb but you got to pump the petal.
you keep saying you wished you knew more about that old ford well you know hpow to make a video for you tube everything you could want to know about that old ford you can find on the internet now on the tires not to late get a rag and some silicone i have a 22 year old lancer once a month i get my rag and the silicone and i do all the door and window rubber and the side walls might try that once you get a new set on her
Nice old Ford Thanks for sharing

That is definitely a great old car. My fist car was a 51 Ford convertible. Wish I still had it.
Great looking old shoebox ford. I'm more of a GM and Mopar guy but do like these.
Love how old iron can't be stopped. I've got a 38 olds behind the barn that will fire right up with a charged battery.

Check out Diamondback tires, old school look with new technology👍 they are definitely worth the money!

It looks much better without whitewalls, fuzzy dice or curb feelers

In 1958 my '51 used oil till I rebuilt the engine. Oil at the pump in a glass bottle was 10 cents a quart. I put 8 engines in that car in three years.
I had a 49 business coupe when i was i jr. high. V8 flathead. I can still see the dash and remember shifting it. I miss it.
Sweet car!

💕 Hooray Boyfrinn! Yay CHUGABUG! Damn. I wish we had a garage ...
This is an incredible car, brother. I want to find a 51 mercury same year my mom was born.
Thats a beautiful old car. Please don`t mod it or change it.
I love that ford
Great car. The old rubber was far better. I'd drive that coupe!

really, nice car. love to see a video of you driving it around.
My first car was a 51 Custom, baby blue with the flathead 6
bogging when you give it gas is probably a bad accelerator pump in the carb. get a kit and rebuild it.
I had the meteor version 20 years ago.....same age as me 😘

Had 4 of these, they're a wonderful car. Let me know if it's for sale.

Hits jimmy
Old school cool 😎
Always pull Thermostat if thermostat decided not to open it will be a sad story
It's got that Ibuprofin power steering heehee
if you fill the fuel bowl up with gas thru the vent tube you wont have to use as much starting fluid on it
I did. I edited out most of that cuz it was not good entertainment. When the battery is low like that, it's just a struggle to start. I was admittedly a bit heavy on the ether. LOL
I see you are a vikings fan. From N.w. Mn. myself .
