Im near topeka ks and i just got my green planted in the ground last night. The wind decided it was time by blowing down my greenhouse. The kale needed cover the first day but luckily the wind died down (a little) and i was able to set them all out on my picnic table before I got them in the ground last night right before sunset. Most of the kale and lettuce was ready to transplant and the spinach was all ready to go. My chickens are going to love it! I had to build a fence around my garden so they won't ruin it when I let them roam around lol

Just planted some fruit trees from the ahem- the box store. Got a 5-in-1 apple, apricot, cherry, and nectarine. Supposedly self-fertile types, but we'll see. And lots of pepper seedlings I've been growing indoors for about a month and a half. Preparing the raised garden beds. Keep meaning to direct seed peas and other stuff but just haven't been able to get to it yet.

A tip I was given for hardening off tomatoes and peppers in windy locations was to put them down in a container such as a rubber-maid bin.

@itsbreellis I'm sure you will be successful! I knew next to nothing about them when I grew them before and was still about 80% successful. But, I did learn 2 things: 1. They do not like to be over watered and 2. They are VERY susceptible to powdery mildew. At least in my own experience. I'm very excited to see how yours turn out! Good luck!

This is refreshing with the snow forecast again next week. Still put brocoli, kale and spinach in the ground since they’d been hardening for the past week and an half. Still waiting for the snow peas to germinate 😊 If you don’t want to always have to do in and out with seedlings you could built or just put a tarp over them for the night. It would protect them against to much sun and from the strong wind ❤

Been loving the beauty days of being back in the garden!
Love your set up! What you have created is amazing! Haven't found my place yet, but am able to have a small garden where I am renting. (Sadly, no sunny windows or space for a grow light set up, so can't start seeds inside)
Wind an issue here, as well. Here in the Catskills our last frost is the end of May, so it's time for mostly spring clean up and prepping, with just a few seeds directly sewn.
The Forsythia bloomed and Radish and Pea seeds went in that day and they are looking great. Have started some Lavender in a home made greenhouse (big clear bin) and will do the same with Borage, Tansy, and Marigolds this week.(call these my bug repellent flower friends, lol!) Getting some lettuce seeds into my 2 racks of window boxes today (4 boxes each, a Big Lots find!) that the lettuce love! I get lettuce far into the fall with very little bolting because where I put them gets only some morning sun.
Best to all....now let's get out there in the dirt! 💕

Your lettuces are so beautiful! I think we missed the window for lettuce planting this year! Thanks to you, I have fallen in love with enchinaceas and yarrows! The yarrows from last year have come back but not the cone flowers.... at least I am not sure what they would look like if they do come back... Also thank you for the idea of the hanging baskets and the small flowers. We may just try that, too! I found you when I was looking for small backyard garlic harvesting and storaging methods last year. It's our third year planting garlic and today I found one garlic missing and a hole in its place. @b3thamphetamine 3 месяца назад +1

Probably not. I live in PA and only started my tomatoes about two weeks ago, which was six weeks after the recommended start time. Worst case I'll probably get a slightly smaller yield. I figured it's better late than never lol

how do you navigate growing plants in your garden that are toxic to cats? do you have some form of cat deterrent or do you just avoid growing plants toxic for them?

    • @itsbreellis

They are indoor cats so I just monitor them while they are outside. When it comes to indoor plants I have them out of reach or I dont bring in. My cats love plants so its hard to keep them away from much.
