This guy makes me proud to be Maltese. I have a lot more education than him and can speak better English but still i'm not even half the man he is. He is not only representing himself as a proud Maltese farmer but he is also representing his country by delivering the best quality of potatoes and looks like he is doing a fantastic job.
yay : ) Loved living in Malta for about a year btw. Keep your vibrant culture alive guys. It was so nice with each town still feeling like a community with its own festivals and traditions.
This young man is a very successful exporter in Malta. His childhood dreams of doing what he does today, brought him to a great dedication to his job. In fact, he is a very well known exporter by foreign importers. Starting this kind of business by yourself isn't easy guys.. and that's what he did. :)
This is actually a rather humbling video. A lot of work goes into the food we eat every day, and we take it for granted that we can just buy it on a shelf, and demand it be cheaper and cheaper.
I like how everyone's making fun of the guy, but the fact is that he's simply vey passionate about his work, which is something 99% of us will never achieve. I mean when most of us wake up in stress on Mondays morning to go to work we hate, this guy is actually looking forward for his harvest... Say what you want, I'm really jealous of this guy.
It is not fair for the cruel comments. It reflects what you are and not what he truly is. What real people see in this video is a young man who is dedicated to his work and that does his very own best. Moreover, what is most important is that he is happy and satisfied with his work and is not afraid to show it. The only problem was the language barrier, but we as Maltese people could easily see that this young man had simply tried to translate each maltese word into English... so even if it is true... he has some language barriers... all of us could truly see what he was trying to convey and there was no reason to try and make fun of someone for simply showing love in his work!! Go man! Happy that you are happy! Remember, it is true that you can't speak English very well, but it is also true... that all those that claim to do... don't know how to take care of the potatoes like you do!;)
***** No, I am not. My point was that he has so much skills and is so good at what he does, why do people have to only focus on his language barrier??? We are Maltese and we have our OWN language. He might not have done well in English, but he does tough labour, he works both in the cold and rainy days of Winter and in the sunny days of Summer. He does a respectful job and does it with pride. What is wrong with that? People who ridicules innocent people are the ones who should feel ashamed!
ZiomASek300 All right man! I would like to see you planting your own potatoes though! You know, the ones you eat when you are eating chips/fries or whatever you call them!
This is literally my favorite video on all of youtube. I try to watch it at least once a month to remind myself of the potato. Please, never remove it or my life will be over.
I admire this farmer for expressing himself in a language that's not his first. He's passionate about his work, he treats his soil and the product it gives him with great respect, almost reverence. I wish we had more of him.
@@Felixxxxxxxxx he probably has lived in a rural area for his whole life and hasn’t had the best education. Most people who aren’t living in the north-east of Malta speak Maltese as a first language anyways and since this guy is a farmer I don’t think that his ability to speak English affects his life in the slightest.
What a fantastic video. You may laugh at the farmers simple and humble way of expressing himself in a language he probably doesn't feel comfortable with, but he really is passionate about what he does. I wish him and his family the best. This video reminded me of how much I love my country. Without farmers you would have very little to eat, and anything you did eat would cost the earth. We are lucky to have people like him working so passionately every day.
Beautiful in its simplicity. I love this it shows us that we are missing something in our busy lives and that is that beauty is found in the world around us, in Nature and what it gives us.
"My life is potato. I dream of potatoes. I have potato blood in my veins." I never seen anyone who is this passionate about potatoes. Honestly, I'm not sure how I should react to this video or how I should feel about Mr. Potato Lover over here.
"...you can taste the sea, the CHURCH, the sun..." a great witness of humbleness, meekness and greatness of soul, humanity and ROOTS!!! Recognise in this the immensity of life’s philosophy, if one can grasp this, for if one does not, Michael surely does, for lives it, he says it and he shows it! God bless you Mike and all your family tac-Canki and tan-Nemusa our dearest friends and God’s household brethren! God watches over you all always! AMEN! Kunu Imbierka - KI+++
I hope in the future I am this passionate about something like this man, he seems so humble and happy with life doing what he does, potatoes. Brings tears to my eyes honestly for someone being so passionate and loving something so much.
Oh yes, the Maltese farmers are the nicest most amazing, friendly people you will meet! In Gozo especially, they will just stop and ask if you need any help if you look even remotely lost!!
My name Artour Babaev. I grow up in small farm to have make potatos. Father say Artour, potato harvest is bad. Need you to have play professional Doto in Amerikanski for make money for head-scarf for babushka." I bring honor to komrade and babushka. Sorry for is not have English. Plz no cykapasta.
we should be grateful to people like him who are providing us with food... his knowledge of the land, chemicals and his hard work - we get what for us is a staple food. The message would have come across better had it been done in Maltese with English subtitles.
Quand je pense à toi, je suis patate, quand je pense à moi, je suis patate, quand je pense à nous, je suis patate, quand je pense à vous, je suis tomate
considering the guy probably worked in agriculture his whole life and infact lives in such a traditional style, I not only congratulate him on his effort to speak in English but thank him for rightfully preserving this authentic exhibit of Maltese culture....or rather what it used to be. I'd be more concerned with the spelling of the words on screen...supposedly written by people with degrees and far more 'elaborate' and 'superior' studies(as some would say)than the lad who cultivates the field
I never thought potatoes could be so important, inspiring and interesting. The Maltese potato is the best in the world, and their growers are the best in the world !
I suggest that the owner of this video should remove all the negative comments posted here. I also would like to commend this young man for his passion and would like to shake his hand. It is shamefull how certain people , big head people do not appreceate the hard work of farmers who strive to keep food in our plates.
Apart from our unique language, culture, art, history, architecture, blue sea and pleasant climate our potatoes are among the rest. Well done to the producers of the movie. Speaking English with potatoes in the veins is unique as well.................. Again well done excellent production. It shows a bit of everything. However it shows loads of openness and genuine hospitality. After all we Maltese are known to be a genuine and utterly hospitable......................

It is true that its difficult for him to express himself in English but at least the process that he tried to explain is understandable. Respect to this guy and others who do this tough work. Thanks to them we can enjoy a wide variety of fruits and vegetables of high quality on the market at cheap prices.
What a video! Everything is so raw and heartfelt, and it's difficult not to be infected by the speaker's passion! Despite what many are saying about this young man's English, he speaks it very well, including generally grammatically correct sentences and the use of technical vocabulary. However, the subtitles are a disgrace and don't do the speaker any justice.
Let me assure my Maltese friends who most probably never tasted Maltese potatoes or Maltese fruit, because they buy imported fruit and veg from a supermarket, that Maltese products are of superior quality and taste better. Maltese products might cost more but they are worth every cent you pay for them. This young man is right to be proud the hard work he does and the potatoes he produces, Before correcting his not so perfect English try doing his work, you wouldn't know where to begin.
That's actually a common expression to show how much something occupies your life. No one is judging this man or his culture for his dedication to his produce- Its just a hilarious statement

With all due respect to those making fun of this successful farmer, you know nothing of the hardship of the local farmers and all the dedication required to produce a good and successful crop. There is authenticity throughout this video which is rare! As someone from a family of farmers, I understand his mindset wherein the crop is the first thing on his mind and how the harvest unites family and friends.
