Only ABBA really know how many vocal layers they put into their songs. And while the four vocal tracks you did do an excellent job capturing the essence of the song, truth is that there are even *more* backing vocals hidden in the sound landscape that is Dancing Queen, or really any ABBA song. I read somewhere that during recording sessions, the girls particularly hated doing the harmonies, because it was so ridiculously demanding of their range and had to do so many takes to do it *just* right. Also, the boys tend to do some kinda hidden backing vocals too.

Congrats… quite good and great singer urself. Not only u nail the harmonies perfectly but the method is so good for us to learn and do the sing along (well I am a lost case)… LOL. Without isolating the other “voices” I tend to jump to the lead vocal and just lose it. To male it worse I have listened DQ about a zillion times and never ever had I even noticed the 2nd background vocals… the 1st and 3rd yes, but that 2nd to me is lost with the 1st… Have I been deaf for 47 years? 😢
Amazing work. Can’t help noticing that the only thing you missed is that in the second chorus there is a high note after “oh yeah” where Agnetha hits an A6 I think.
You have a great ear 🎵 👏 Yeah the note is not here because it's added on top of everything and there was no room for it in any vocal part. It wouldn't make sense to add one more part with a single note 🤷🏻♀️ PS I'm not a fan of this note anyway but don't tell anybody 🙈 Thank you for your comment 💕
I'm a huge fan of that note! I think, if were talking about the same part, Agnetha runs up to that high note in a sort of gritty glissando. I really love it because it adds this burst of spontaneous climax to the otherwise excellently controlled vocals, adding to its genius as a pop track. I love singing this song!
Thank you! Actually, it's a very low budget (or rather none budget) startup and I'm doing everything on my own but I'm glad that it looks professional. 😉
I've been looking for this for weeks!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH, BEAUTIFUL!!! It'd be awesome if you also did "Super Trouper". I think that song has a lot to break!
This song and Mr Sandman were beating the shit out of my sense of harmony, where in many songs im able to accurately sing along in harmony even if the song is recorded with only the lead voice...would you please do "Age of aquarius " by 5th Dimension?

Just discovered your Channel and thank you! Now i finally can try to learn the 4 different vocal parts, as a man..;-) yes in the studio version they overdubbed the voices of Agneta and Frida and pitched them extremely high so you'll get that typical full ABBA harmony sound. Going to discover more on your channel, it's so well and friendly explained by you and love your clear voice (i'm a bass barriton) . Greetings from the Netherlands!
I had so much fun doing this episode. ABBA is amazing! 😍 Even without all the vocoders and doubles it still sounds amazing and I'm glad you like it. Have fun with it! 🙌
Look, first of all I don't want to sing! I love ABBA music since their beginning, and I remember Dancing Queen since release. But darling Justine, I have enjoyed your video endlessly, because of Dancing Queen, a very much also because of you, your charm, and above all, your voice. I am not any music expert, but I'd say that you do sing this song lover than Agnetha, but it is beautiful. Probably I am wrong (you can correct me), but I believe that you performing gospel music must sound amazing. Great work (very professional one, by the way), thumbs up, an I will keep listening to you (won't be singing, I promise 😀). One day maybe, Abba's "Knowing me knowing you" could be interesting from singing and harmony perspective, just an idea. Regards from Serbia.
Justine you are the best!!!!!! Thank you so much for this tutorial!!!! It really helps me out a lot and I can only thank you for such thorough and high quality tutorials!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I added the song to my list 😊 But I have to admit that with Pentatonix I have one problem, I would need a bass vocalist to sing it with me 🙈 Those low notes really matters so maybe when I'll find someone to cooperate with I'll be able to do it 💛
This is a great breakdown. I'm pretty sure the third harmony is there somewhere, at least some parts of it. The main ingredient to the ABBA vocal sound though is the sheer power that Frida and Agnetha sang with. They went 110% all the time in all the vocal parts and that's what makes the choruses in their song so full. In this mellow rendition it works to not push but when doing a close to original cover the vocals need to go full send. I don't understand how they were able to sing like that live night after night without completely frying their vocal cords.
I'm sure many don't know this song and you wont get any more request do a harmony tutorial on it because it's a Jamaican gospel song, but could you do "Good News" by Kevin Downswell for me pretty pretty please. I've been practicing the higher backing vocals for a while but they're really hard. Thanks
I never heard this song and it's really nice! 😍 It would be hard for me to do it cause I'm trying to add some popular songs here and still I'm fighting to get any views and subscriptions but I strongly recommend to practice different harmonies in general and for sure it will help you to learn vocal parts from the original recordings on your own, at some point. 😉
I was thinking about it but because it's a vocoder (not a recorded harmony) I skipped it. Maybe I should reconsider this 🤔 Thank you for your comment 💛

yes there is a video on this where there are vocals I never heard . Those girls could sing
So rarely do I think people do ABBA justice, but my goodness you do!
This is seriously good work. Only a matter of time before you're a millionaire from this channel.
