      if I'm correct, the struts are connected together from left to right and are supported by the booster mass itself

      It's crazy to think that catching Superheavy boosters will regularly occur once Starship becomes operational. And here I thought landing a booster on a barge was crazy.

    I'm not slobbering Elon Musk's knob like a lot of people on X are these days, but I gotta say, I love these launches and their iterative process. And the fact that they show us their failures, accept them, and move on rapidly. It's pretty awesome.

    • @Danny-bd1ch
      @Danny-bd1ch 5 дней назад

      Looks cool, but does not do what NASA paid them for. Catching that booster is fools gold. This thing has not even made to orbit yet. Artemas has already been to the moon and back, but the moon lander is a bust. The bar has been set very low for success with the Star ship program. They are not saving much money by reusable state from Falcon 9. Always talking about views in the telecast. That is selling the sizzle, not the steak.

    what is that at 4:08 ?

    • @cerberuslikesballin
      @cerberuslikesballin 4 дня назад +1

      That's the hot-stage ring, which protects the boosters actuators during hot-staging, which is when the engines on the second stage are started while still attached to the first stage, which is only running on three engines. This simply allows Starship to have it's fuel immediately settled without the need of an RCS thruster doing an "ullage" burn (essentially settling the fuel through the use of a really weak engine).
      At some point in the future, the hot-stage ring will be integrated into the booster, and it won't have to be jettisoned.

      The 2nd stage got weakend on purpose to check what it can withstand. And no missions had intentions to recover starship. They all get destroyed. It should complete its mission for valuable data.

Its just an extra out sheet that was to be testing its own survivability during decent to see if it can be used as a heat shield for the area under the catch pins that can later have the chop sticks run over it.

    That is really, really weird and scary how the booster comes back into the launch pad, gets secure, and then shuts off. Too bad the actual ship exploded.

      How is it scary?

    • @dathyr1
      @dathyr1 6 дней назад

      @@moejama64 Duuhhhh!!!! It is the way booster comes in at the weird angles and then finally locks into the launch pad. It does not come straight down into the launch pad. But i guess it has to be done that way. It will be interesting if that maneuver can be done every time and that good. That is why I say it looks a little bit scary. If you don't like my wording , too bad.

    Smthing that really pisses me off is that spacex ignores the fact that 5 engines went out and focus on the booster, same thing during IFT 1, they’ve ignored the fact that the whole stack was spinning arround

      lol, what an absurd misunderstanding of reality.
      Just because the commentators dont mention something the moment it happens doesnt mean there isnt a dozen actual experts of the vehicle observing and reacting to any and all mishaps that are going on.
      They didnt ignore anything, they literally talked about it within minutes of it happening. Sure they were awe struck by the most insane things they have ever seen happening right in front of them, so what?

    • @HarperDashy

      The hot staging ring which sits between the 1st and 2nd stages. When the 2nd stage ignites its engines, the ring protects the booster from the heat/directs the energy away from the booster, and then the ring gets discarded to save weight for when the booster returns for landing.

      The Part (hot stage) between the Booster and the Ship

    • @Vatsyayana87
      @Vatsyayana87 13 дней назад +4

      As the other reply said. That is a temporary shield so the ship engines dont destroy the booster when they "hot stage" which means they fire the ship engines before it even detaches from the booster.
      Later boosters will have a much smaller and lighter shield they wont detach during flight.

      That was none-structural catching hardware. It wouldn’t have mattered if it broke off or not, it was solely installed just to see if it would survive reentry.
