It's crazy to think that catching Superheavy boosters will regularly occur once Starship becomes operational. And here I thought landing a booster on a barge was crazy.
I'm not slobbering Elon Musk's knob like a lot of people on X are these days, but I gotta say, I love these launches and their iterative process. And the fact that they show us their failures, accept them, and move on rapidly. It's pretty awesome.
Looks cool, but does not do what NASA paid them for. Catching that booster is fools gold. This thing has not even made to orbit yet. Artemas has already been to the moon and back, but the moon lander is a bust. The bar has been set very low for success with the Star ship program. They are not saving much money by reusable state from Falcon 9. Always talking about views in the telecast. That is selling the sizzle, not the steak.
i saw that right away - it could be a problem with loose tiles since it is loss of thermal protection. but obviously it was not a sufficient damage for RAPID UNPLANNED DISASSEMBLY xD
4:13 even the simple things like seeing the debris float around in zero-gravity is astonishing. We've all seen stuff like that in movies but here we're seeing the physics of it in real life
That's the hot-stage ring, which protects the boosters actuators during hot-staging, which is when the engines on the second stage are started while still attached to the first stage, which is only running on three engines. This simply allows Starship to have it's fuel immediately settled without the need of an RCS thruster doing an "ullage" burn (essentially settling the fuel through the use of a really weak engine). At some point in the future, the hot-stage ring will be integrated into the booster, and it won't have to be jettisoned.
A real shame that Ship couldn't survive. Well I suppose with all of the FAA stuff coming up that they might be able to reuse this booster sooner than we think in terms of flight #
That's some serious plate-spinning at 17:20.😂 I understand her wanting to put a positive spin on this disaster, but I think that ship had already sailed, so to speak.
The 2nd stage got weakend on purpose to check what it can withstand. And no missions had intentions to recover starship. They all get destroyed. It should complete its mission for valuable data. Flight 7 was more of a "how far wil starship get now with visible weakpoints"
Shame the flight didn't quite work out as planned but nonetheless great flight overall. Love to see they have the catch down now and first time wasn't just luck. That's the part I expected to need the most testing and fiddling with.
By my understanding, that flap is superficial and has no barring on the vehicles survivability. Its just an extra out sheet that was to be testing its own survivability during decent to see if it can be used as a heat shield for the area under the catch pins that can later have the chop sticks run over it.
This exists because of greedy russian military leaders, not NASA. If NASA had a proper budget, they would have been able to attempt this sort of thing decades ago.
I cant wait until we go back to the moon and to mars. With the cameras we have today....the footage is going to be absolutely amazing! Is it possible to launch satellites kinda like a chain from here to Mars......and then communication is faster?
Thats an extra sheet they were going to use for testing, it being detached has no effect on any system at all. Its completely superficial by my understanding.
I mean, we are about a year away from not being able to tell the difference between reality and manufactured vids. It's better to be skeptical earlier so as to not get too comfortable in the age of propaganda. It's not like Corporate News will help to spread any truth.
Trial and error I guess.. they still learning as they go! But I do wonder how Apollo didn’t have all these tests and just shot to the moon or am I misinformed

That is really, really weird and scary how the booster comes back into the launch pad, gets secure, and then shuts off. Too bad the actual ship exploded.
@@moejama64 Duuhhhh!!!! It is the way booster comes in at the weird angles and then finally locks into the launch pad. It does not come straight down into the launch pad. That was none-structural catching hardware. It wouldn’t have mattered if it broke off or not, it was solely installed just to see if it would survive reentry.
Whoever the welder is for those landing struts needs a raise.
if I'm correct, the struts are connected together from left to right and are supported by the booster mass itself
8:06 of the video: At T+7:53 Sparks, possibly fire, can be seen in the actuator before the video feed is cut.
Great catch I would’ve never seen that. It looks like a little bit of fire at the hinge as well.
Might be on to something there - let’s see if Scott Manley picks up on that!
Good find!
I think it's a reflection of fires in the engine bay- watch the engines go out one by one on the telemetry starting with the top sea level raptor.

@@domenicorutigliano9717 He means when the rocket is fully developed.

Its both kinda. The booster has two little nubs sticking out that catch on the arms
it is CH4 leak look closely how fast the CH4 tank lose fuel compare to LOX at the end ,no doubt it is CH4 who cause the explosion and FTS go on
elon said both methane and lox leaked, that explains why there was a brief fire visible high up in the atmosphere
FTS never went of. The thing exploded minutes after they lost connection to it.
