Hence the remaining coal-fired power stations in the UK are on standby at present and will be for the foreseeable future until new nuclear generating capacity is available. Keltbray I am sure are doing a very professional job but nonetheless this is a very short-slighted act of industrial vandalism.
The UK could design and build proper stuff back in the day. We could build an immense fleet of coal-fired and nuclear behemoths. Cathedrals of electricity production. Not anymore. We don't have the skills and capabilities to create equipment like Ferrybridge C today. The video, showing the demise of this great "servant of the nation", is a metaphor for the decline of British manufacturing.
This is a horrendous waste of a perfect part of our power grid and national energy security. This process of decarbonisation of the power industry will be regretted n the years to come !

And now we are living through a government induced energy crisis. Thankfully government has the solution too (sarcasm intended).
The UK should use tidal, geothermal and nuclear energy to replace coal for electricity generation if it actually wants to fix climate change.
