I've got one of those saddle covers. Very nice, but not waterproof. I always put a thin plastic bag under it. Proofide is a fine treatment... I've been riding a Brooks Pro that I bought in the mid 70's. Still doing great, although with some cracks around the rivets.
Why is it that in this official, Brooks England video, they say to leave the proofide on for "...a few minutes...", but on the Brooks website care instructions ("Services" > "Product Care"), they say: "Leave on for a minimum of one hour and allow it to penetrate through the surface"?
Yes indeed, especially since their blurb about "Brooks Forever" extended warranty says "WARRANTY CLAIMS Brooks England Ltd. will not accept claims due to crashes, accidents or low saddle maintenance and care, as in the common case of cyclists who forget to tension their saddles and end up sitting on the metal structure or cyclists who ride a completely saturated saddle."
как же все красиво стильно модно удобно , а вот у меня в реальности и брокс есть но не бороды не прически не таких ботинок ни даже такого магазина в городе нет(((
I still have no idea how much my saddle needs to be tensioned to not be over spanned and also I feel like the nose might have always been on a tiny bit sideway. Is this a problem?
I bought a B33 Brooks saddle for my fat bike , I hope I made the right choice . How long should I wait untill I use proofind , I see on the video that you use it only on the top. But I've seen other videos where they use it also on the inside . I'd appreciate your help . Thankyou
My world traveler 2012 version had been rather deep the color , maybe sweated or too many oil ? But does it have someway make the color lighter ? Now the illustration is a little hard to be seen.
Seems odd that their are so few viewers and subscribers to what is supposed to be the world leader in cycling saddles.. Just bought one and want to know if their is a way to tell how long it's been sitting. The tool that came with it looks like an old coin someone left out in the elements. Need to know if I should apply some proofide or not. Not much in the way of United States customer service:-/ Thanks in advance!

Desires are states of mind that are expressed by terms like "wanting", "wishing", "longing" or "craving". A great variety of features is commonly associated with desires. They are seen as propositional attitudes towards conceivable states of affairs.
@@itainteasy that’s all well and good, but if one “desires” to do what is correctly prescribed, it is helpful to know what the correct prescription is.
@@rockhopper01 desire is the correct term here. brooks *prescribes* to use proofhide and only proofhide, every 6 months... if you treat the saddle any other way it voids the warranty. The tension of the saddle is for the user to desire the degree of hammock-ness, and because the leather will stretch away from the desire over time, if constancy is part of your desire, raising the tension so as to return to the desired tension is advisable. although some users (very outspoken brooks users) might long for the accomplishment of break in, a desire of change over time, they would also argue and prescribe stretching into the hammock will mold it better, but fit is not tension, and they too will eventually find their desired tension, then start the process of tensioning back to that desire.
Rock hard after 2k+ miles; VERY squeaky; needs constant tensioning. And did I say it was insanely squeaky? Not sure I made the right choice tbh. If I could get a gel saddle to suit, the Brooks would be out the window pronto.
Last year going through France I had to buy a spanner to tension the fkin thing (left mine at home - why would you need it?).Load of hype, I really wouldn't bother.
They’re too clean to be hipsters. More like time travellers. What tool can I use instead? I am the fourth owner of my Pashley; it didn’t come with any tools for the the Brook seat.
Obenauf's works just as well. Very similar waxes. Obenaufs will darken a lighter leather though. I have a black B17 Select so it doesn't affect the color.
We in India used Brooks saddles, fifty years ago,the cost was affordable then, and we're used on commuter bikes. Now I have seen the prices they're six times the cost of an Indian commuter bike.
That must mean you have some really cheap bikes, as at least in the US, you can get a B17 for slightly under $100, which is less than double what any usable saddle would cost at a bike shop.
the company was sold and is now owned by Selle Royal and instead of being a practical brand it is marketed as a fashion brand to wealthy people who feel special by having purchased the same product as all the other wealthy special people. You can buy a taiwanese leather saddle by Geyes for less than half the price and they are just as good as the top of the range Brooks sadddle. I know as I have both for over ten years of use.
@@kc3718 I did that and bought a Gyes 4 years ago. Today the rail broke. I'm 84 Kg, so not over the limit. And usage was mainly commuting and some bike touring. No extreme sports ever. Looking for a Brooks now. Hope it'll last at least 10 years.
Leather "proof", What? this stuff is just Sedgwick's leather conditioner. That's also way too little conditioner to do anything for a wax based conditioner.
Useless. How do you determine proper tension? And Brooks' own materials say to Proofide only the underside of the saddle. Does everything by Brooks have to so insufferably pretentious and impractical?
@@lestermoses5545 That may have been the case in the past, but that is no longer the case. The entire build quality has declined. The rails broke with less than a year of light use. No amount of maintanence or protection of weather could have prevented that. When you try to make a warranty claim you are either flat out ignored or given one sentence non-responses.
Also, it is funny how you started turning off comments to your videos because you know so many people are complaining. That is ok, I will continue to leave bad reviews on every other site the allows comments.
@Paul Whitcomb i myself have a beard,... but this right here is the most pretentious thing i have seen in a while. A bike shop, connected to a barber ?? Like wtf ? Straight hipster
This is just gratuitous hipster pornography. Does your mother know this is the sort of thing you're watching on the internet?! Hmm? You should be ashamed of yourself. No beard oil for a week.

They should have answered that, but I believe it's because they changed the proofide formula (post Selle Royale acquisition)
Hipster overload
Or quality and style (dapper). People have been riding these saddles for over 40 years.
Hipster cranked to the max.
This video is so oddly satisfying. And I'm not even a hipster.
your on the right path
It's the music.
"Turn the tension nut until you find the desired tension". I was rather hoping to find out what the "desired tension" should be. Do I just make it up?
I'm a stickler for details as well, however, with a saddle it's what your ass feels is a suitable tension.
Enjoy the taint ridge.
I got the Beard then the Brooks(best saddle I've ever had!) can I book myself in for a trim and polish!
jesus christ what's the brand of the bag on the handlebars?? it looks amazing.
EDIT: sorry i'm stupid. found it.
I just bought a Brooks saddle and now I find out that I have to grow a beard too? ;)
A mustace and / or a pipe is fine too
Haha! I have 3 Brooks saddles but no beard. This is all a bit hipster 🤣
У меня была борода, но небыло brooks. Теперь есть всё что нужно😊
Any clues about desired tension? how do you know?
Same question here.
do you like it really stiff ? or a little bit of slack like a trampoline ?
or really slack like a hammock ?
Yes indeed, especially since their blurb about "Brooks Forever" extended warranty says "WARRANTY CLAIMS Brooks England Ltd. will not accept claims due to crashes, accidents or low saddle maintenance and care, as in the common case of cyclists who forget to tension their saddles and end up sitting on the metal structure or cyclists who ride a completely saturated saddle."
LEAVE IT!
If you leave it, it won't function properly. It doesn't really function properly, anyway, but it will be worse. Tension it when it needs it.
O-oh... If i continue to ride my B17 select will i become as hipster as these guys? I already have a beard! *gasp*

Nice boots anyone know the manufacturer
Video says apply to top and maybe bottom whereas Brooks webpage says only top
adoro essa marca de selas brooks
Anyone knows how often to apply the Proofide on the Brooks saddles?
6 months
Once a year. Maybe less.
its amazing seat bike!!
Thanks
i never got any wrench with my saddle, nor any mention of tightening any nuts....just tried an adjustable and it doesn't fit(won't clear the leather)
is my B67 supposed to be so squeaky?

mine the same, some parts are very dark and some much lighter, that's the natural aging process and I quite like it.
You could try a saddle soap, but make sure to proofide again afterwards

Sheldon knew a lot but on tensioning a Brooks he was wrong.

You can order the tools from the Brooks website.
Hmmm... Wasn't supposed one of the benefits of proofide is making the saddle waterproof? Why they're "recommending" a rain cover?
the proofide apparently helps against moderate moisture but like any leather, it needs to be protected from harsh elements
