CCS does work, but it's so energy intensive and captures relatively little CO2 for the high imput that it doesn't actually make sense. Occidental, like other fossil fuels companies, simply wishes to stick to 'business as usual' business models, so greenwashing is seen as an easy avenue/business strategy and taxpayers the world over are hoodwinked into paying rich companies to (partially) clean up their own mess. I think that before too long, we'll begin to see many taxpayer subsidised CCS white elephant plants around the world, perhaps starting around the 2030-2035 mark.
