I don't think that the creators of this game were exactly pretentious, I think it was made by some really spiritual hippies who just had no understanding of game design. I mean, with, for example, the Fantastic game you could kind of see the ideas and the mentality behind it, but with this, it just seems so honest and alien, you really have to wonder what kind of "incense" these New Age, crystal magic believing hippies were inhaling.
In short, if a voice says, "You read the book of Sekhmet," you can nod in agreement, smile in acknowledgement and THEN nod in agreement, verbally repeat the statement as coming from you, such as "Yes, I read the book of Sekhmet", even though you didn't actually read it in your awareness, but rest assured, your avatar DID read the requisite chapter. The game seemed intriguing, and I wanted to see a play through of it, just to see what it's about. And I have to say, I was as confused as you were, when you were playing it. I finally went back to the web site to see if they have any instructions, there. And they do. It just... I didn't really understand them. Assuming I understood even a little of what was written there, each download is actually just a level of a single game, and it is supposed to be a form of guided meditation, the goal of which is some form of self-improvement. When the avatar collects items related to whatever that goal is, you are supposed to be that much closer to achieving that goal. So, in the case of the particular level you just played, the guided meditation is meant to help a person achieve the goal of reducing, if not eliminating, a person's fear, the form of which is different for each person. Every time your avatar collects an item that reduces fear, it's supposed to represent the person's fear actually being chipped away until there is nothing. The repetitive statements encountered while on the run seem to be mantras to help further that focus. The ritual items that represent blessings are supposed to help in the creation of a positive atmosphere. I think. All of this is just a guess from what I've read on the web site, and from what I've seen of it, so far. It's just as likely I'm talking out of my butt and spouting manure, as well.
