  • In this never before seen dramatic chapter we visit the CORP Railroad, and its stiff 3.6% grades with up to 6 units powering over the Siskiyou Mountains. This segment covers from Weed, CA to Medford, Oregon when business was booming! The whole movie "Great Short lines West" visits ten short lines in CA, OR and Texas with wonderful scenes spanning from 1970 to 1998. Two of our visits like this one, include cab rides and access to two, truly great short lines - the A&NR of Texas and CORP in Oregon.
This is Part 1 of series on the Short Line CORP Railroad For Part 2 use this link

One change over the last 70 years is that "wood chips" used to be burned in wigwam-shaped burners.
These were seen all over southern Oregon, creating air pollution, and wasting a resource.
Now wood chips, slash, sawdust, end-pieces, etc., are converted into building material (particle board),
garden mulch, fuel logs, etc. No waste, no air pollution, except from forest fires.

Choof-Choof-Choof that is what 3.6% Grades will do to a locomotive! How about the Full lump in your throat "Dynamics" on the super curvy downhill track, hate to make a braking mistake there!
