    Nando is in still exactly the same in 2023. Still extremely competitive, making tactical calls from his car and watching his team mate on screens around the circuit. But this compulsion also extended to hounding the Red Bull drivers and Hamilton for their lap times.

    The most important thing is obviously that Massa was fine, but that must have been some lap by Fernando. Thanks for posting this clip, it made me laugh.

      Well maybe, but he did it in a car that finished 8th in the constructor championship. None of his teammates managed to score any points in that car, so it was pretty bad.

      And as for nothing special, he was about 17kg heavier than Vettel and 15kg heavier than Webber which equates to around half a second in laptime. If you think the Renault was a car that was within 0.5s of the Red Bull, you’re delusional

      ​​@@MashiatCOD99ed bull didn't have that sort of margin over the field in 2009. It was a lot closer and very much circuit dependent and fuel level dependent. You're thinking of 2010 where red bull were significantly quicker at this circuit. Also Alonso had Piquet jr as a teammate who obviously wasn't good enough so distorted car performance as well.

      Well, since this was 2009, and refueling was a thing, drivers had to qualify themselves with the same fuel load as at the race start. Fernando probably went with lighter fuel load to snatch pole in Hungary since its a hard track to overtake on, that's probably the main reason

Brawn GP having a great start after buying Honda for a symbolic $1. RB their first win of many in China and becoming runner ups and becoming officially a top team.

      @@elplan3605 Overall it was not the best season that's true, especially after 2 great seasons (2007 and 2008) where the championship was super close and ofc. 2010 was a hella good season aswell but compared to the last ~10 years of F1 I think we would be happy if we get a season like that next year.

      All the electric equipment, the battery, and having to carry all the fuel has made the cars heavy. The nimbleness of the later V10 and earlier V8 cars is unmatched.

    What a Surreal and chaos was the end of that Q3, the most important that day it was to listening and see that Felipe was alive after that terrible crash.
    But I just can’t believe how Fernando did that pole on a Renault shitbox, even if the car was the less fuelled but to do a pole with the 2nd or 3rd worst car against the Redbulls, McLarens and Brawns that year it was so impressive, I watch his lap and he drove absolutely on the limit he gave everything on that lap like anyone did it, shame it was not recorded on the live broadcast and live timing, on the race he has a good pace to fight for the win against Lewis but another time like in 2006 the mechanics make the mistake in the pitstop with no pressing perfectly the nut of the front right tyre, he was so unlucky on that track Fernando despite his first win in 2003, hope the badluck turns into a goodluck in 2023.

    This was back in the day when you could have a dog of a car but stick a light fuel load in final quali and be good enough you can stick it high up the grid, which alonso did, wish we returned to this these days

    I remember this at the time very well (I also remember very well what happened before then with Felipe Massa) - we can laugh now thankfully about this.
    A part of me would like to see this put into every qualifying session - blank the leaderboards out so the drivers only know their own times and have things gradually revealed at the end of Q3.

      @@jeanoltt no it was only quick for the 9 first races then everybody catched up and Brawn lacked upgrades so by the end of the year they were 3rd fastest at best
