You can say whatever you want about production, acting or even her daughter (those nasty comments are reported) but from a pure technical point of view, she had few rivals singing this type of coloratura.
(Bartoli’s and di Donatos voices are smaller for example)
Smaller and they don't have such a good low notes, she sings perfectly high notes as a coloratura soprano!

She is brilliant - the top is so free, the bottom so rich and she has such fun with this incredibly fun music - her enthusiasm is infectious. Fine, the coloratura is aspirated, but the tone is gorgeous and she is so interesting as an interpreter. So much more impressive in every regard than DiDonato.

why did they cut out the applause? this was a mind-boggling performance. the audience must have been bravo-ing their heads off. i was astounded sitting at home and missed the enthusiasm from the crowd which is an integral part of opera performance
A fantastic recording and one of my favourites. However I have to listen reading the comments as her over acting is positively painful. But her performance is quick fluid and accurate which is how you should sing a Rossini finale
Do you really think she is "discutibile"? Not that she is perfect or the most subtle singer, but she strikes me as incredibly talented and well schooled for a singer that also sings pop and jazz music and is a "performer" besides a "serious" Opera singer. Her range, coloratura and control over her unique voice (a dark, even timbre with an "individual" sound) are great IMO. At least she sings with such steadiness that she can make it sound easy and joyful. That's often not the case.

True, but she does border on a Bartoli-like eccentricity at times in the cabaletta, which is on the verge of turning into a freak show instead of what it was meant to be. i.e. Bel canto.

Eine großartige Colotatursängerin. Spitzenstimme und Spitzenschauspiel in Einem. Eine Diva ersten Ranges, das kann und darf auch ihre Tochter Greta nicht schmälern.
Ich empfand ihr zu übertriebenes Rumkasperln auch bei einer komischen Oper (Cavatine beim Barbier von Sevilla) mitunter als lächerlich. Das Publikum goutiert es.
(Auch Shakespeare hatte Erfolg mit seinen Rüpelszenen.)
Was aber muss eine 5-jährige Tochter beim Anblick dieser übermäßigen Verfremdung und der etwas zwanghaften Komik, vorgeführt durch ihre eigene Mutter, empfinden? Sie dürfte entsetzt gewesen sein, auch wenn sie diese Sturzszene erst im späteren Alter angeschaut hat.
(Eine ähnliche Betroffenheit hätte meine Mutter bei mir ausgelöst, wenn sie in einer öffentlichen Aufführung immer wieder ihr zu weites, trägerloses Kleid etwas aufreizend nach oben gezogen hätte.)
Ich glaube, Kinder sind da sehr feinfühlig und verletzbar.
Wie also reagiert ihre Tochter Greta Thunberg? Mit Widerspruch!
Sie sucht sich ein klamaukfreies Thema, dass sie mit großer Ernsthaftigkeit verfolgen kann!
Wem soll man mehr Dank zollen?
Der Mutter mit ihrer Albernheit?
Oder der Tochter mit ihrem sehr ernstzunehmenden Engagement für einen offenbar dringend notwendigen Wandel der westlichen Industrienationen?
Die Vermutung einer Manipulation durch den Vater halte ich für äußerst unzutreffend.
Die Bewegung einer kritischen Jugend ist längst zum Selbstläufer geworden und hat ihre Gallionsfigur Greta eigentlich gar nicht mehr nötig.
Wir "Alten" sollten uns von aller Häme und Verspottung distanzieren und der Jugend zuhören nach dem alten Sprichwort: "Kindermund tut Wahrheit kund".
Denken Sie nur an Andersen's Märchen "Des Kaisers neue Kleider". Musik kann also im weitesten Sinne sehr inspirierend sein.
@@ausbavaria5661 Die Mutter hat eben ein komisches Talent, das betont sie überall wo es angebracht ist. Warum sollte die 5 Jährige Tochter denn entsetzt gewesen sein, die hat wahrscheinlich gelacht, wenn sich ihre Mutter komisch gegeben hatte. Also davon hat die Greta sicher keinen Psychoknacks abbekommen. Meine Mutter war auch lustig und zu allerlei Blödsinn zu haben, das empfand ich immer gut und schön. Auf dieses komplizierte Thema kommt doch kein Kind, noch dazu geburtsgeschädigt, selbstständig drauf. das muß ihr erst eingegeben worden sein. Die Mutter kann nicht albern sein, im Gegenteil, sie muß, als Opernsängerin ausnehmend klug sein um ihre Rollen erfolgreich gestalten und beherrschen zu können. Wir Alten, erfahrenen und ziemlich Gebildeten, sollen uns ein Beispiel an einer schulabsenten Minderjährigen nehmen ? Da gilt das Sprichwort vom, ach so klugen Kindermund, aber wirklich nicht. Die weis ja nicht einmal von was sie redet, "Sie kann das CO2 sehen, sagt sie", die spinnt doch ! Aber vielleicht sind wir "ALTEN" so blöd, daß wir es nicht sehen können ? Lachhaft ! Natürlich wird die ganze Familie vom Vater manipuliert. Der nützt den Nobelpreistragenden Großvater, mit seiner Treibhausgastheorie aus, und dem Politik hat erfasst, daß sich da viel Geld damit verdienen lässt. Er verkauft inzwischen auch CO2 Zertfikate und wird davon richtig reich. Inzwischen hat das die ganze EU Elite inspiriert, man hat beste Werbemanager dafür eingespannt und das Geschäft ist zum Selbstläufer geworden. Natürlich wird wahrscheinlich die "Wendung" unserer Industrie eintreten und, zum Glück, werden die Urheber, nämlich die Jungen, das Ergebnis tragen müssen, denn nur aus Schaden kann man lernen und das muß die Jugend dringlichst. Sie wird eben arbeitslos werden, wird sich selbst kasteien müssen, ohne Auto mit hohen Stromkosten einer unsicheren Altersversorgung usw. Wir Alten werden wahrscheinlich den Finanzkrach noch erleben und unsere Ersparnisse dabei verlieren - also auf in die schöne neue, junge, ideale Zukunft , Ihr Klima-Welt-Retter.
great singing!!!! I think the staging asks form her to play an Elena with ticks. what range this voice has!!!!
That's just weird. She's fun - but this Staging (I'd like to see the whole Production) just destroys the Context of the Opera. This is NOT one of Rossini's Comedies. This Staging destroys the Sweetness and Joy of this Scene. It's just Slapstick.
Wie eine schöne Frau eine wunderschöne Arie durch ihre Mimik im wahrsten Sinne "bereichern" kann, wird hier vollendet demonstriert.
A GREAT "alternative" to Joyce Didonato's Elena. Her coloratura is unique, unlike any other. She almost makes fun of bel canto, but only because she CAN.
And because she has great sense of humor.

Some people accuse her of over acting.Perhaps if this had been in more period costume it would have been more fitting. After all its Rossini not a modern composer. Loved her voice and her control

The only reason why one should mention Greta Thunberg in this context is because the daughter managed to make her mother give up a distinguished international singing career, since it required travelling by plane.

Brilliant coloraturas, very good intonation, she does not overact, nevertheless, I would wish her to use a little more chest voice, the sound would become fuller and the text clearer

Завораживающее представление, к которому обращаешься вновь и вновь… Но если бы не эта певица, то, скорее всего, было бы впечатление унылой бездарной и вычурной постановки, в ряду других "режиссероцентричных" спектаклей. Но, поскольку она в центре этой сцены, то все становится оправданным. Великолепный голос, выдающаяся беглость, яркая индивидуальность. Но. Это все же не опера и не бельканто, при всем мастерстве и одаренности исполнительницы. Здесь нет стремления к идеалу красоты голоса и пения, которое лежит в основе эстетики романтической оперы. Меньше всего певицу волнует красота звучания, тембровая чистота вокализации, например, верхних нот. Она все могла бы сделать, но стремится она к иному. У меня ощущение некоего пародирования, гротеска, «игры в оперу». Будто оперный идеал - нечто маленькое, что не стоит того, чтобы стремиться к его воплощению, поскольку исполнительница ощущает себя бОльшей, нежели рамки, накладываемые им. Как современному художнику, который овладел диапазоном изобразительных средств, способных создать фотографическую иллюзию изображения, скучно было бы копировать картину старого мастера. Или олимпийской чемпионке по гимнастике танцевать простую для ее технического уровня партию в каком-нибудь романтическом балете… Но старые картины и романтический балет имеют свою глубину, и если жизнь в них можно внести только шаржируя или пародируя, то, похоже, это про то, что жанр умер. Представление, несомненно, живое. Но это иная, даже, скорее, инородная телу произведения жизнь, будто тролли из скандинавских лесов по каким-то причинам прикидываются людьми, надевая на себя, как одежду, их кожу.

Greta a réussi à faire sa mère renoncer à la carrière de chanteuse lyrique parce que cela requérait beaucoup de voyages en avion. Si quelqu'un voulait une raison ou un prétexte pour ne pas aimer la fille, voici qu'il est servi.

Gros contresens sur la prétendue gratuité des vocalises, et grosse ignorance de l'histoire de l'opéra italien. She isn't overacting. She makes a coherent performance in which her singing and her acting don't exist one without the other.

she definetely has the range and velvety color all through her extensive range. It is a very unique voice, I must say very rare., but this role belongs to the dramatic-soprano coloratura like June Anderson who did an spectacular rendition of this role

This was made for a Mezzo with high extension and june Anderson isn't a dramatic coloratura not even a good spinto.
@@FranzBlumVan1890 If by dramatic coloratura you intend one of those huge-voiced sopranos whose voices sound like scratching glass with metal (or just metal with metal), then you're right, she never was a dramatic coloratura. However, I found her pretty convincing as Luisa Miller and the eponymous heroine in Strauss' "Daphne". As to the voice for which Rossini wrote Elena, it's up to debate. High mezzos are fine, but a darker-voiced soprano is equally fine - especially since it gives greater contrast with the contralto musico Malcolm.
@@Donello By a Dramatic coloratura soprano I mean a soprano voice who can use l'agilitat di forza, A Dark sound, rond and deep but agile this real voice is most found it in mezzos or contraltos, out of italian repertoire is rare to use that term, Mozart queen of the night is a Dramatic coloratura rol in german music but not the coloratura Norma, Violetta, etc. Colbran was a former mezzo who could reach the highest notes of a coloratura soprano, in rossini character Coloratura doesn't mean high but a agile voice., all agilities have coloratura but not all coloraturas have agility
