  • Errors/things I forgot/failed to mention:
    -I make a misleading statement that the KAAZ is only available as a 1.5 way. What I meant to say is that the KAAZ and Giken come as ONE of the two ways (1. 1.5, 2) for the Miata. The Cusco gives you two options (any 2 of the 3 "ways"), depending on how you order it.
    -The KAAZ case appears (?) to be bare machined steel - no anodizing (or whatever the gray coating that the Giken and CUSCO are coated with). This KAAZ has "rust" inside it already (new unit only weeks ago with very little run time on it).
    -The CUSCO is cross drilled to be 2 of the 3 potential "Ways" - that is a huge bang-for-the-buck tuning benefit I forgot to mention.

    I love these no BS videos that give you all the important information in 5 minutes compared to other 20+ minute videos. Thanks!

    GREAT video. I've had the Cusco RS for 6 months now, beating on it doing autox every month. it's great and I don't have one complaint yet.

    I recently installed a Spoon 1.5 way Clutch Type LSD together with the 5.1Spoon Final Drive in on my DC5 and I guess that Spoon is the same as Kaaz, it’s just a branded one. So far so good though there’s chattering and rumbling sound on tight turns during low speeds on the 1st 1200 miles. I’d recommend Kaaz Gear oils 80w90 or Motul Gear FF Competition 75w140 every 100 miles during breaking in process. I’d highly recommend to do figure 8s (full lock to full lock) and circles during the breaking in period

    Thanks for the video, this is the first time i have commented on a video but i appreciate the real comparison of these LSDs. I have a cusco rs on its way and i am glad i selected that diff.

    First clutch disc rotates with the diff case.So no need for a thrust washer in therms of plate friction to case.

      t=1:58, the anodised/alodized case half is already galled/scratched after a few "differentiating" revolutions on the bench. The wear is coming from the "side gear" interface, not the disc (which is bearing against the Bellville spring).

    The Japanese word "Giken (技研)" is pronounced as "GEE-ken" rather than "GUY-ken". Anyway, good quick comparison of the internal structure of them.

      The word 技 in Japanese pronunciation is rather similar to Cantonese pronunciation which is supposed to be the authentic ancient Chinese language. Even though the Korean has more similarity with Cantonese than Mandarin.

    That's all nice but how do they work in comparison to each other?

    • @miataboxes
      @miataboxes  6 месяцев назад +1

      Ah, you again. They are all Salisbury-type clutch LSDs. Without doing A-B-A testing and knowing whether the application is RWD/FWD/AWD, low power or high power,, no conclusions can be made. They are all shipped for maximum or excessive "lockup" (preload, really), presumably so that customers don't complain about wheelspin. If you are searching for laptime improvement, there is no replacement for testing and tuning.

    So the Kaaz does not have hold off springs? Since you didn't mention them.

    so with these diffs, is there the option to change from 1 to 1.5 to 2 way by re configuring, or is it a case of buying what you want when you order the diff, and it not being something you can change?

    How can you make a recommendation unless you've driven all three and compared how they work?

    • @miataboxes
      @miataboxes  2 года назад +9

      Because I've raced for 20 years, including all 3 of these designs and more, and I've built and rebuilt more than 150 LSDs for actual racers using actual laptimes, and this was a teardown comparison in the first place, and 99% of drivers, 99% of the time, are not doing any objective testing at all, and cannot judge an LSD by anything except wheelspin. Buy whatever you or your forum bros prefer "Truth Warrior".

    Which fluid do you recommend for the Kaaz 1.5 way LSD? Can't seem to find reliable information online. The car does so street driving, mainly to and from the track, but mostly used on the track. I have looked into Motul gear oils in 75w90 and 75w140 viscosities. Have a hard time deciding between mineral and synthetic fluids. I was told to never use synthetic gear oils in clutch-type diffs. Thanks for the video.

    whats the point? diff case and PPF just shatter if you have more than stock power - people getting into RX7`s need to know that you must get gearbox/diff brace, full poly bush of the entire back end of the car and even then the oem diff case breaks - or spend 4/5k getting 8.8 diff fitted (if you can get them to sell you the subframe kit as they rarely respond to emails) basically dont bother, get yourself a nice holiday instead.

    • @miataboxes
      @miataboxes  5 лет назад +5

      The point, and intended audience, is primarily for road racers, particularly those that are competitively racing Miatas 1.6L and 1.8L Miatas. Enjoy your holiday! :)

    Im looking to purchase a Giken super lock type S, my question is can I add a trust washer? or is it a fitted washer that would need a slot machined in from the factory?
