Great to hear all the music and jingles, all of them so familiar. Locked for ever affectionately in my memories. Caroline in the 70s and 80s was so very special. The lady continues now into her 50s, we all grow older but never forget that you were there. Loving awareness lives on for many of us.
My teen grandchildren will never ever understand what this meant to us of this generation. Wish I could time travel and take todays technology and record this still the music takes the mind back in an instant.
'Loving awareness reigned supreme across Europe' ... I was too young to appreciate what it was all about but was one of those fans who literally had the transistor radio on under the bedclothes at night time .... the memory of the sound fading out and the wash of the waves ..
You are correct the audio I taped from the radio in 1989, the excellent video clips are believed to be from 1986, as stated on the credits at the end of the video. All the video clips were already in the public domain. Thanks for your comments.
it all began in the early sixties from the radioships: Mi Amigo and MV Fredericia... but from the Ross revenge the signal was perfect.... see my account for parts of Radio Caroline in the sixties, sevnties and eighties..grtz
I have just converted my dads tapes whole day Caroline 558 in june 1990 there is a track RELEGION AND DREAM SAID TO BE ON SENTIMENT RECORDS can not get this anywhere anyone have a copy PLEASE? I love that track
Yes, I was. Hooters going like crazy from both ships. We drew CLOSE alongside in the dark. Mike Watts was on air I think. Great seamanship from Captain of the Olau Brittannia. I'm sure we listed to starboard as everyone in the disco on the Olau ran to see the Ross as we passed her at walking pace!! Great time.
Excellent! But, we need Ronan's "Loving Awareness" promos back on front-line air time on "Caroline" in 2021 & beyond. Also: a proper "Caroline Overdrive" style night-time Play Clock (in similar fashion to that played (to great applause) in offshore days by the likes of Messrs: Anderson / Watts / Wright/ Archer / Watford / Butler / Shelton / Gates, etc.) please! And broadcasts TOTALLY from the ship, now that the ads revenue from the likes of Paul Hipkiss etc. is flooding in.
Wonder if "the Lady" will get back to sea for 50th anniversary in 2014, if they are successful in getting AM license that they are trying to get as we speak, it could and should happen, at least she will be legal this time around.
my dad had a tape alberts 3 hrs worth with the raf jets till someone borrored it and stole it sadly hes wanted that tape ever since ALBERTS 3 HRS WORTH

The best
The audio may have been recorded in 1989 but the video is closer to 1987, the mast came down after the big storm at the end of that year.
Read the credits at the end of the film-clip!
Caroline Martin doing very well on BBC radio right now, before that BRMB
a pity, that huge mast didn t make it to the 25th anniversary as well!!

Yep, Raffles lived with Peter Chicago in a well known seaside town. I used to go & feed him when Peter went out to the ship occasionally!
