I wonder how Gianmarco's humor would translate into Mandarin and Malay since he'd like to get his clips circulated in China and Singapore. I remember hearing that the tone in which words are said in those languages dictates so strongly how the message is received, such that sarcasm doesn't translate very well. But also, perhaps that's changed over time, as countries continue to be exposed to more American culture.

another msian here hahaa, really a crossover i didn't expect! pleasantly surprised ofc :D i've been following both of ya for quite some time!
editing to add: lol was not expecting the jocelyn chia mention, the problem i have with that incident was that her specific joke wasn't great/creative, and the harsh/menacing-ish delivery/tone felt off-putting too so the whole thing came across as punching down at a very specific & small group of people with no comedic payoff? even as someone who enjoys more "cursed"/"dark" types of humour, i think there's plenty of ways to do these jokes without the audience feeling this way, she just missed the mark. just my take tho ofc, comedy is subjective! definitely not surprised by the SG government's reaction to her clip though haha
the discussion about a local audience vs. an international audience on the internet and the 'rules' in comedy is very interesting! i think SEAsia has great potential for your future sets gianmarco, and it's obv culturally very interesting and diverse so it'll be a brand new avenue.

As Malaysian, it's embarrassing that Malaysia is trying to become a developed country without giving it's people the basic freedoms of a developed country such as freedom of speech, freedom to change religion or become an apostate (only applies to Muslim) and removing laws that basically discriminates people based on their ethnicity. The last part basically makes it easier for people of certain ethnicities (malays and bumiputera) to get into public univerisities, get goverment jobs and cheaper housing (they have land reserved). I hope one day Malaysia follows in the footsteps of great nations and champions western values without undermining local cultural values

this doctor title slander will not stand! XD
the term doctor meant highly trained in a certain field. They sent a lot of there lifetime to get doctorates to prove it. It was a acamedic title at first as well. It also meant you could teach on the subject. Doctor used to be a very high form of respect as well because they are our learned people. Doctor had a lot of gavitas.
then the most common doctor people come across are medical doctors and also the propaganda of doctors came around. Not saying it is bad but the acamedic side kinda just got sidelined for medical stuff. The other doctors are the ones who came up with so much that we have around today. science bitch!
it could also be that the internet has also changed how hard it was to get such titles back in the day. no google or phones and such back in the day.

Based on the ethnicities, 61% of the population of 🇲🇾 is called Malays, 22% is Chinese descent, 7 % is Indian descent, n 10% is the native population of Borneo island. But the constitution n the laws of the country are based on the 🇬🇧 common laws, which include the provision of protecting the sanctity of Islam n the rights of the Malays n the Borneo natives, as historically the Malays n native Borneans are the early people who inhabited the country. 99% of Chinese n Indians were immigrants brought in by 🇬🇧 colonial during 19 n 20 centuries to work mainly in their tin mines n rubber estates. When the Malays push for independence from 🇬🇧 in 1950s, 🇬🇧 gave the condition to the Malay Rulers to give citizenship to chinese n indians of 🇲🇾 as jus soli, in exchange of Chinese n Indians recognize the sanctity of Islam n the protection of Malays in the 🇲🇾 constitution. That was what happened in the 1950s, b4 🇲🇾 were granted independence by 🇬🇧. The strain relationship among ethnicities is incited by political move n by the politicians. Malays accuse chinese as too greedy n want to take power over the country, chinese accuse Malays for treating them like 2nd class citizens, etc. However, at the lower hierarchy of population, people only minding their own business n live in harmony next to each other. As long as we know how to keep our 👅 civilized, we can always avoid conflict. When we talk without thinking of consequences n affect other people sensitivity, things could get astray, and lead to trouble 😵‍💫, although the starter of the issue merely very petty.
