OG homepod doesn't have the U1 chip so it can't really detect how close your phone is.

I just got a mini and I'm pretty curious about the extra tap to transfer to iPhone. is it designed in order to prevent the audio from transferring unintentionally because the U1 chip is too sensitive?

I’d like to know as well. I find that extra tap defeats the purpose of handoff, in my opinion.
Why would using handoff be any better than just pulling down the control center and transferring the audio from there?

I still can't get my iPhone 12 Pro Max handoff to my HomePod mini. It doesn't do anything. Instead, I can handoff to my pair of HomePods... any help would be appreciated..

Same here Flavio. I bought 3 minis. Updated them all, I have 12 Pro Max and it doesn't hand off in any of the minis. I even restarted them just in case. Nothing. Were you able to fix it?

I had the same thing. Make sure the WiFi and Bluetooth are on.
