    I work at a cast iron foundry and the material used to butter over certain numbers or names on patterns is a stiff pliable wax. they sometimes remove the wax and affix the letters and numbers back on certain patterns, depending on what the job they are running at the time.

      They are over rated. Like you I didn’t know of them, found a couple and bought them, made corn bread in them a few times and realized that cornbread made in a round skillet and cut into wedges tastes better. The ratio of bread to crust is off with those pans.

    • @castIroncookware
      @castIroncookware  5 лет назад

      Sticky and tacky cast iron is usually old oil that has gone rancid. I will usually wash with dish soap and a scrubby. If there are grill lines involved, I will use my Lodge silicone grooved scraper. You can add some table or kosher salt to help with tough pieces. If you have good seasoning, it should hold up to the process. Just make sure that you dry afterwards and apply your preferred seasoning oil. Wipe off all excess oil with a paper towel before storing.

Maybe an iron mountain Version...? The handle does not have a triangle at the base. The handle instead gradually goes “into” the pan.
