I just had the chance to meet them on Sunday. We chatted for 10 minutes and this was before their show had started. They really are some of the nicest people you’ll get to talk to. Incredibly humble and wanted to know more about me than talk about themselves! I was startstruck but they played it off like it wasn’t a big deal lol.
I was a nobody monitor engineer who worked with them before they were popular. They showed up on my beautiful outdoor stage at a well known festival for a very early show. I remeber mic'ing up a tiny, little suitcase that was used as a kick drum lol. Honestly I really didn't expect much. And than they started the set...and OMG the energy was as intense as anything I had experienced. They were so good! And yes they were nice and respectful and real and appreciative and they just loved and put everything into their set. Even though the crowd was kind of light. How could you not like them. The next year they were back and definitely a bigger vibe and crowd followed them at the festival. But they were the same, real down to earth guys. I'm happy they have experienced the kind of success they have.
As someone who grew up on Ted Nugent, ACDC and the like, it's SO great, to watch a phenominal band like The Avetts evolve and grow. They are The REAL Deal and they are my absolute favorite! Also, I've watched GE Smith since the earliest SNL days and THANK YOU GE Smith, for all you are doing with the wounded warriors!! You may not know that GE used to be married to Gilda Radner and they lived in The Dakotah Building, where John & Yoko lived and they were there the night John was killed.
The Avett Brothers have carved themselves a niche rooted in true love and family that it's so easy for them to show their true selves in interviews like this. G.E. Smith and Chad Johnson were there and they barely spoke, which shows how much respect they had.
In 2016 The Avett Brothers held a meet & greet for fans who purchased VIP tickets to the NC Hall if Fame induction because they weren’t able to attend. They then opened it up to all fans. They met fans, signed autographs, and took pictures ALL DAY. They are amazingly wonderful people.
What a thoughtful interview. Thank you for bringing it to us, and thank you to The Avett Brothers for their vulnerability and sharing their music with us all. The Avett Brothers (and Ryan Adams, like you said) are a balm for my soul!
@@AnthonyOnAir - No kidding? Dawes is one of those great bands that flies underneath the main populous radar. I always like your commentary on DMB and cool to see you covering other bands I respect (Avett / Dawes). Your job rocks and I'm jealous.
What album does Scott mention at around 11:40 in this interview? I wanted to listen to it, but I’m not able to understand exactly which artist he is referring to.
The avett brothers possess a level of uncompromising humility that reawakens the concept of a true gentleman.
Damn… well said!
