    so grateful for this tutorial because your slings are awesome and I am so sad you no longer sell them. I used my ring slings that I got from you for almost 7 years and for both my kids and I love them still.

    We do not have a large area for my son to play but this works perfect for now! Great price🤩 can't wait to fill it up with more toys!

    Thanks for this tutorial! I love the looks of the pleats rather than a bunch of gathers... I’m going to try to make one for my baby coming in a couple months!

    I followed your online step-by-step tutorial to make a RS for a friend and it turned it well but watching you make it is so much clearer! Thank you!

      Rob Marchetti Thanks! It is a fantastic machine -- mine's really been a workhorse, and I like it so much, I bought a second as a backup (I sew for a living, so I can't afford time off not being able to sew). I would recommend it without hesitation.

    Question. The decorative stitch that you're using seems to skip a few areas. My machine has also done this. Do you know why?

    I'm thinking if making my own sling for my little one since I'm plus size.
    My question is do you wash your fabric before hand?

    I don't make and sell slings (well, I hope to make one or two for myself, but that's different) but I make other baby items as well as sandwich wraps and snack bags. My question is this: Where do you get your tags? I am going to try screen printing my own for an upcoming show, but I think it's something that I want to outsource in the future.
    Love the videos! Thanks!

    So pretty and even! Gonna attempt one for my new grandson, I'm using a knit with little give, or should I not use that fabric? Advise appreciated.

    • @janandrea
      @janandrea  6 лет назад

      MrsLPerez I don't recommend knits with pleats -- a sharp needle can snag and break the knit loops and cause runs and tears in the fabric later on, and it's difficult to sew through all those layers with a ballpoint needle. A gathered shoulder is good with a low-stretch knit, though. I have a fabric FAQ at crafts.sleepingbaby.net/fabric.html :)

    Thank you so much!! This has helped me tremendously! What kind of sewing machine do you have??

  • @camelannawill

    I have a question: If I want a ring sling I bought to have a different shoulder style or different color of rings, is it safe for me to unpick it and resew it?

    • @janandrea
      @janandrea  7 месяцев назад

      I did it as part of my business for years 😁 Just be cautious with the seam ripper and use appropriate thread and stitches, and of course be aware that you'll be voiding any manufacturer's warrantee. (It also probably shouldn't be resold, as you'd be liable if the stitching failed.)

  • @Stitch.Witch22
    @Stitch.Witch22 4 года назад

    Question... Is there a reason that you made it so that the part of the hem that is folded up on the outside of the sling?

    • @janandrea
      @janandrea  4 года назад

      Yes, I find that it doesn't really show much in the body of the sling when it's being worn, plus it's one less hem to potentially irritate the baby's knees. I like the way the tail looks better without the hems facing out, too. And on a fabric with different front and reverse sides, the contrasting hem makes it easier to find the edges for adjustment :)

    • @Stitch.Witch22
      @Stitch.Witch22 4 года назад

      @@janandrea Oookay, that makes sense! Do you find that the pleats distribute the weight like the non-pleated ones do? Sorry for the questions, you seem to be an expert!

    Can you use any type of material or do they need to be a specific one??

    • @janandrea
      @janandrea  8 лет назад

      I've got a FAQ that covers appropriate fabrics here: crafts.sleepingbaby.net/fabric.html
      There are a lot of fabrics that aren't suitable; you need a particular weight range and the fiber type can make a difference as well.

  • @justinaTapia93

    What type of fabric am I looking for?!

  • @maribel0717
    @maribel0717 7 лет назад +1

    Love your video! How many yards on your baby sling?

    • @janandrea
      @janandrea  7 лет назад

      Maribel Medina it depends on the size you want it to be. Between 2-2.3, but I've got sizing info at crafts.sleepingbaby.net/slingsize.html :)

  • @mohawkmom100
    @mohawkmom100 3 года назад

    What are the measurements for the sling?

    • @janandrea
      @janandrea  3 года назад

      I aim for 27-29" wide after hemming, and the length depends on the wearer's size. I have a sizing chart at crafts.sleepingbaby.net/slingsize.html to help determine the finished length -- add about 3" for sewing in the rings, and wash the fabric before sewing to prevent surprise shrinkage :)

    Thank you for the tutorial !!! Where did you get your tags?

    • @janandrea
      @janandrea  8 лет назад

      +Lelanosstates I get mine in bulk from Northwest Tag and Label (nwtag.com) but a lot of smaller producers speak very highly of Custom Couture Labels on Etsy.

    Can I ask how you began selling these? Do you have insurance, and/or Certification? I am looking to make these but I hear you can't sell them without some sort of certification? is that true?

    • @janandrea
      @janandrea  9 лет назад

      +Ashly Fink There's no certification (you either comply with the laws or you don't), but the complete rundown is here: babycarrierindustryalliance.org/2013/02/baby-carrier-manufacturing-101/
