Great advice, i was in music school for many years but i struggled with exactly what you mentioned. Brain is lazy machine, so i always memorized fret patterns rather than notes. Thanks!
on a different take, interesting choice of guitars!! ... loving the Hofner Verithin, early 60s. I have my late dad's that was bought from Selmer in the UK in 1963. Almost the same bar the trem.
So good man, similar to learning to read music too. Somehow both playing and saying/reading at the same time really solidifies it in your brain.
Totally! Singing, playing, reading the notes - anything extra you can do to try and absorb them more is super helpful.

Same story as me! I got away with it for a long time too. Until I realized I was selling myself a bit short in the end. Good luck!
