  • White Rock Lakes is part of the Southern portion of the Ptarmigan Traverse in the North Cascades of Washington State. To get to the lakes, requires expertise with being off trail, knowing how to navigate. General area ....goo.gl/photos/...
I have several RUclips videos in this area that might interest those that climb and what to know more about the area:
    • Climbing Mt Formidable... Climbing Mt Formidable
    • The Ptarmigan Traverse The Ptarmigan Traverse

    • Climbing Dome Peak , Climbing Dome Peak.... a favorite of mine.

Another very well made and exceptionally scenic video, especially your narration and use of the trekking pole as a pointer. That helped a lot. Many videos that I watch from others have panning with the camera way too fast, but not yours. Very smooth and slow enough to take it all in as if I was right there. I might suggest a route overlay at some key point in the video(s) to give us a better idea of the "big picture". In this video it really did not appear that White Rock Lakes were your primary goal, but I was not sure. Thanks as always for sharing your skills and passion with us Randy!

Yes, your correct, my goal was not just the lake. I did continue south and checked out the South Cascade glacier and Lake. I will have a video on that soon, lord willing. I also nearly climbed Old Guard. I have already done Sentinel and it is not a nice climb. It was high angle, dirty, lots of loose rock.... Old Guard on the other hand looks like a nice climb. I just ran out of time. I really needed 3 more hours of light that day. ....as for the map idea, I have been updating my Google Photos link. A climber might come across that info, or perhaps the RUclips info and it might help. There are lots of good "complete resources on the Ptarmigan Traverse out there. Part of the climbing experience is figuring out the puzzle. ...I will try calling you latter Joel. Randy : )

Yes, my goal was to visit both the S. Cascade Glacier and Lake and perhaps do Old Guard. I did the S Cascade lake and got some wonderful video and photos. I hope to publish another video soon, lord willing. As for Old Guard, I bailed. I needed 3 more hours of light and left it for another day. ...I will try to give you a call soon, Randy :)

I know this video was posted several years ago, but I'm trying to get info on the bachelor creek bushwhack. I've read about the two routes, where if you choose wisely it's only about 15 minutes of bushwhacking. If you choose poorly, it's about 2 hours... Sounds like you might have found that easier more north route. Is that correct? Do you have any insights on how to locate it or perhaps a GPX track?

I have done it both ways. I don't think it is a 2 hour difference, maybe an hour, maybe. The first time I did it, I crossed at the standard creek crossing and made my way up.
Another time instead of crossing the creek to the right of the valley, I went into the trees to the left side. Later picking up the climbers path. I think either way is Okay. Near the river, it can be unpleasant with all the heavy undergrowth. The typical hand to hand combat with the bush. Good luck and I am sure you will get through it, if your persistent.

So, Randy, now that you have finally joined the White rock Lakes club with me and since you have also practically been to every other spot in the North Cascades, which has the best view? Inquiring minds want to know... Hrmm, now that I spent more time thinking, you have not been to Image lake as you and Nate went in via Spider Gap to climb N/S Gunsight

Have you ever climb Mount Saint Helen? Thanks for sharing looks Amazing. Be safe, Peace, love your # 1 fan.

No I have not climbed Mt St. Helens. I have done all of the volcanoes in Washington State, except Mt Saint Helens. It could be interesting to climb. Most of the Mountains in that southern part of the State are not rugged, just rolling hills. It is not really on my to-do-list. I was just looking at your play list and would like to comment, but it looks like I don't have that option.

Another fantastic video! Do you cross glaciers solo? It looks like it in some of your videos. If so, how to you navigate them without too much crevasse danger? I know it can be done, such as people going across Sahale and Silver Star glaciers, but seems it would be awfully scary.

    • @RandyT_RandyLikesToClimb
      @RandyT_RandyLikesToClimb  5 лет назад

Yes, I cross glacier solo. I usually climb solo. The most crevasse crossings I have done in 1 day was several hundred on Mt Olympus. It was a 48 hour car to car trip. As for navigating crevasses; they can sometimes appear at almost anytime. Most of the time I see them, or carefully cross snow bridges. If you do fall in, it is very bad news since it can be nearly impossible to get on your own. I have climbing alpine on glaciers when I was a teenager. You do have to be very cautious. Be safe! Randy :)

@@RandyT_RandyLikesToClimb That's fascinating! I don't think I'll be trying that anytime soon, to put it mildly, but I have major respect for anyone who is knowledgeable and willing to take that kind of risk. Do you have video of that trip up Olympus? I don't see it in your list. That would be a great one to watch!

@@RandyT_RandyLikesToClimb I'd particularly enjoy that one, if you do have video. I would like to do the Hoh River/Blue Glacier/Olympus summit in the next couple of years. You wouldn't catch me trying that shit alone, though! That's a mighty ballsy move.

@@ButeoAlbonotatus Yeah, I agree that I pushed my skills to the max. Knowing that if i fell because a snow bridge or hidden crevasse, there is little chance to get out on your own.
