ohhHHH i love how you incorporated the bit where dream's mic was cutting out into an internal thing for c!sam. like the shock and adrenaline of finding him was making it hard to hear. also love the little detail of c!dream always having a smile no matter what, even when he's scared, up until "well, i didn't think i was gonna be the one in here". that's the first time he actually frowns
I thought the scene already couldn't get possibly better, but you made it so much better! The absolute highlight is Dream. The way you draw him, the eeriness in how he continues to smile and how unfazed he appears to be, despite being nervous. He smiles because it's what lures people in, and here, where Sam and Dream are both without their masks, key elements to their characters, their facial expressions are fully on display. Yet while Sam is being honest about his anger, Dream isn't purposefully giving away his intentions. He's a planner, he knows how to control things to his advantage, including how he's perceived. The hint of a puppet-string even comes crawling out when he makes Sam think to himself, trying to latch on, because even though he's in this prison, he's still trying to get ahold of people. Sam is brilliant in here as well, especially with the cuts to his own personal experiences as he talks to Dream, thinking about all the things he did wrong and all the things that are important to him. Sam knows he's done a lot of bad things, especially to Ponk, yet he still believes he's a good person at heart. "Good people do bad things" can apply to him personally, alongside what Dream might believe for himself. Throughout the animatic, Sam has his rage on full display, smoke threatening to spill from his mouth every time he talks. The way you put Tommy in Dream's exact position, with the added bonus of Dream taunting him with streak, and appearing where the night sky would've been, it feels so cruel, with any sign of hope being crushed by him being there. I appreciate the usage of the masks here too. When they speak to each other, both their masks are off, signaling something more open with each other. When the conversation ends, their masks are back on, and the communication is closed off. This is just literally so cool, and it just does this scene so much justice! Amazing!
I swear, this design of Dream is so...disarming. With the mask on, he's very opposing. But with it off, he looks like...he could be Tommy's brother. Or just some kid. The student who gets in trouble but still always manages to worm his way out of detention. Its...off-putting... SO, GOOD JOB XD
@@silverbutterfly1739 could be long lost? Both have blond hair. Partially unrelated, a friend and I have drawn parallels to JackSepticeye's evil ego, Anti? He been depicted with green Marinette strings too. One Jack's fans surmised that Anti was a Tulpa, a being that was brought to life by the shared belief in his existence amongst Jack's community. I know the string is a visual representation of both character's manipulative tendencies. But what if both are the same? No one really knows what or who Dream is in the lore. Its entirely a mystery. We just know he wants control. So does Antisepticeye with Jack's community. Its a theory. An odd one for sure but in its own twisted way, it might explain some things. I doubt its where the story is going but hey. There's an AU for you.
It's the fact that he looks more human and you can see his eyes expression when he has the mask off. When he has his mask on, you can't see his eyes (which is intimidating), but when he doesn't, his eyes convey a lot of expressions that he can't completely hide. (Kudos to Grimmijaggers for making Sam and Dream's faces so expressive)
Dream having perma smirk is so interesting like he cant NOT smile and it probably a masking.. very interesting Grimmi as always you make banger animatics for interactions!
I AM JUST ADORING DREAM’S FACIAL EXPRESSION AND HOW HE IS ALWAYS SMILING UNTIL HE SAID HE DIDNT THINK HE WAS GOING TO BE THE ONE IN THE RPISON. THIS IS SO GOOD I GOT CHILLS. OH AND SAM GROWLING?? THE DETAIL, I CANT GET OVER IT.
And a detail i love is that even when he stops having a full smile he is still smiling on one side. Such a tiny line going up but its there and its so good.
Like I’ve said before, it seems that Sam doesn’t completely despise and hate Dream, he just doesn’t agree with his actions, as you can see because Sam isn’t entirely aggressive around Dream, unlike people who do hate Dream like Quackity or Tommy, and I love how this animatic really shows that very well.

I love how you portray Sam and Dream! Sam is both terrifying, but he also sounds so weary and disappointed, most likely in himself and Dream. And Dream is obviously terrified but also still cocky enough to try and hook Sam into his web again. I do feel some sympathy for Dream, but not enough to make me relent on him getting some karma. I think Sam's speech to Dream was also a pep talk for himself. I loved the little aggressive sounds and flashbacks you put in this video, as well as the expressions and body language to convey more emotion. Very well done!
The way Dream keeps smiling is so eerie here, but what makes this clip amazing I find is how the second Dream realizes Awesamdude has his number and throws his own suggestions back at him, his grin cracks. That feeling of all his alterations to the prison just getting tossed right back into his face, knowing that Quackity will vicously and brutally murder him with no mercy if he gets caught. But most of all, when Dream realizes that Sam is completely right. His smile falls and he is just wide-eyed on the ground in Sam's shadow, stuck with no way of escape on his own. He puts on the mask to hid that frown with a fake smile, the image that he is still in control when in reality everything he needs rides on the shoulders of someone else. A perfect animatic for two fantastically developed characters.
I like the little detail of the tiny string slowly, *slowly* , expanding from Dream's hand towards Sam as they're talking, like he's just getting slowly but surely closer to manipulating Sam into doing what he wants, until finally he slips up due to desperation of wanting to see the Sun again and the string disappears instantly as Sam goes off on him about how he's the villain in the story. Yet still, in the end, for a split second we see Dream's smile light up in it's old green, because now he *knows* , what does he know? He knows that Sam's resolve has weakened enough, he's slackened enough as a warden, he's gotten relaxed enough and uncaring of the rulers of the prison enough, that now Dream can finally properly manipulate him, and so Dream knows that with Techno coming to save him, and with himself having all the time in the world to manipulate Sam, he's *finally* about to see *HIS* sunrise once more.
Exactly. Sam is standing his ground, but Dream now has a firm understanding if his weaknesses. Sam may be aware of Dream’s tricks, but he’s on the verge of completely breaking down.
This scene, especially when Sam reminds Dream of who made the decisions on some of the worse aspects of the prison, shows how little empathy Dream has. He doesn't care about what his actions does to others, not seeing what he is doing as being wrong, but if someone else does those same actions to him, then it's bad. Sam reminding him that this hell he is in was created by his decisions hopefully taught him a little empathy...
Interesting choice on how you drew Dream for this. He seems very young and has that strange out-of-place grin. That grin doesn't even look like Dream's normal crazy grin, it doesn't really seem to fit his speaking tone either. I'm curious what is going on there. Dream seems more like a brat then a mastermind who is caught off guard. Still love your use of the strings though. Good job chopping up the audio, as normal.
That's intentional for this scene! In my mind, I wanted him to replicate some of Tommy's mannerisms to sneak past Sam's defenses (since he cares a lot for Tommy and he's basically his weakness). Also he's scared of Sam so- My normal Dream design is a lot more threatening and creepy
@@Grimmijaggers so basically, he wants to look like he's the victim in this scenario, like Tommy was. He is definitely scared though, considering that his knowledge of the revival book is the only thing keeping him alive.
I don't know how to put into words how much I freaking love this animatic!! Sam and Dream having their conversation with both of their respective masks off was such a nice touch (also your Sam design is genuinely so pretty) and the way all of their expressions and emotions were conveyed is so perfect!!! What I love so much about this is that dream looks so cute, fluffy, and innocent like a child that knows his way out of problems and issues, It really sells the cute but not innocent vibes. I also love how they both took their mask off showing a level of openness between them. The details on everything is fucking amazing especially how dream strings try to wrap around sam indicating on how the green telatubby still has power and some level of control. Edit: the smile that dream has 99% of the time is also creepy yet interesting, shows how comfortable and kinda relax he is even when he's nervous or scared.
Well, smiles are associated with positive emotions and that may be why Dream is almost always smiling. He wants to seem innocent and non threatening. Thing is, it isn't genuine and doesn't match what Dream is truly feeling (which is a lot of what Dream does)
The fact that Dream is still trying to ensnare Sam (at least in your animatic) baffles me. Like boi you're just pulling at the threads at this point, you don't really have that much power over Sam anymore. Having said that, he managed to convince Sam not to tell Quackity, so maybe. I love the small details in this; Sam's panic being used as an excuse as to why Dream was cutting out (very clever btw!!); the way Dream is always smiling, even without the mask; where the thread retracts when it/he realizes now was not the opportunity to trap Sam (best example: 2:25); Sam's EEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRSSSSSSS (srry I just really love it when people add attitude with ears or tails ^^); how when Dream said "If you die, you're dead forever", Sam looked disinterested, but as soon as he mentioned Tommy, it got Sam's attention (a deliberate move by Dream to further convince Sam). I just- Aaaaaaaa I love this so much >v
I mean when you really think about it Dream did get in sams head almost as much as ranboo. He changed Sam's entire mindset and made him lie to his ally
I love how everything starting after 5:30 just solidifies that sams basically acting like a really angry but calm parent having a talk with their eldest about them messing with the youngest
the BEST part about dream's perma-smile, it makes his half-hearted/double standard moments really hit home, what was once used as a tool to unnerve people and flaunt his control, is now a detriment trying to convince anyone stronger than him. It also makes his mask seem like a "lesser evil" in a sense, you know a mask can't change, so it's less off-putting and people might even take you more seriously, but a face is something most people have control over, and the fact that people can see he doesn't have such a basic capability, puts him at a psychological disadvantage.
Man, amazing. the expression, the anger and how Sam sound so exhausted. Dreams creepy innocent "i did nothing wrong" face was so creepy and unnerving. The part where Sam was reminding Dream that this was all his plan to make Tommy's prison life miserable really got me. like dang. The part where Tommy was looking at stars AND THEN Dream's face covered it creeps me out. that feeling beingg trap and miserable, that part really hurts thinking if that actually happen.
I love the way you can see in dream's eyes the fear, anger and other emotions, but his mouth keeps a smile through nearly all of the scene. It's just like his mask. Even though he doesn't have it on, it's still there. He's still forcing himself to smile.
Amazing!! Every extra detail you add like the Fran/Rat, Sams flashback to Tommy's body, the growl/smoke off of Sam, and the strings coming off of Dream as he tries to get Sam under his control again are not needed but add so much to the scene!
I feel like Sam taking off his mask is sort of as a symbol of him being personal and the putting on of the mask is getting his poker face back on. It's a very nice detail!
"How do you think you're the good guy?" "...I don't think I'm a bad guy" This just points back to the saying that every villain is the hero in their story

When Dream frowns for that small amount of time, it feels like the most vulnerable he is in this animatic. A genuine anger that he believed that he would be safe and he's not and it's infuriating to him. And then he quickly pastes that smile back onto his face. it's a wonderful detail. I was half-convinced this was a "Dream physically can't stop smiling' thing but, nope! He's just being a creep! Also! Also, I love that Dream just straight up didn't respond to Sam's allegations about his intentions for the prison and I whole-heartedly believe he hit the nail on the head. The reason I believe this is because on multiple occasions, when he's caught, called out, or can't see a way to twist the conversation in his direction, he goes silent and redirects. A few examples are: When Tommy demanded Dream to tell everyone what happened in exile (no one knows the full extent still T~T), when Tommy asked who Dream missed the most, and of course, when Sam asks if killing Tommy was a good person doing a bad thing. I love the consistency in his character. You can pick out clues on what certain behaviors mean based on past actions. Sorry, I know this is about Sam and you are THE Sam fan, but I find Dream incredibly fascinating. I also hate him so, so much. Obsessive, God-complex creep....
Dream is my fave character after Sam, I love their dynamic so much. Adding to what you said, Dream also stopped smiling, because he's furious at Sam for calling him out in that scene. He's and egomaniac who is in the humiliating position he wanted for somebody else.
The most tragic part of this scene to me is that Dream and Sam weren’t wrong about the courtyard being a security issue. People are on top of the prison all the time, with tridents and with just building up. Getting up there has been shown to be trivial. Throwing down supplies or a trident or just using the courtyard as an entry point would make it much simpler to break into the prison. Minecraft mechanics as storytelling.
Once again, I have to say that the character designs are phenomenal,, I will always adore the way you incorporate creeper traits for Sam and Dream’s unwavering smile is so unsettling, amazing animation
This scene was just so utterly creepy to watch, int terms of character composition and development I love Dream, but in terms of who he is as a character, I hate him so much. He is just so truly evil and cruel and there is no apparent reasoning for it. And even though I know he has motivations for why he is doing bad things it doesn't justify him for having done terrible things, especially to Tommy. The way he even tries to manipulate reality by saying that "good people do bad things" as if somehow that made him a better person or excused his past actions was genuinely bone-chilling, then when Same called him out on it by asking him is what he did to Tommy was right Drema couldn't even answer him straight. He TOTALLY deflected the whole issue instead of responding. Yeah, Sam doesn't have any room to speak of himself as better, but honestly, I don't think Sam sees himself as that much better than Dream or really acre if he is or not, he doesn't see this as being about himself. Sam cares about the fact that Dream did terrible things especially to Tommy and deserves to be in the prison and He CALLS HIM OUT on it when he goes into that whole AWESOME but sickening monologue about all the terrible things in the prison being meant for Tommy. It was the first time I think anyone on the server has actually said out loud what has been on his mind from the get-go. Dream meant for the prison to be for Tommy. He literally has a God complex (says so to Tommy's face "I'm a God Tommy") where he can't see himself as doing anything wrong regardless of whether or not his actions are actually good. He doesn't think himself to be accountable to anybody, and he thinks he has the right to define what is good and what isn't based on whether or not it benefits him. Sam calls him out on that too when he says "oh right so it's okay if it's someone else but not if it's you" Dream is literally a psychopath with a God complex who has power over death. Which as far as villain characters go makes him horrifyingly badass and as a person (C!Dream not irl) makes him downright evil. Frankly, I go back to Tommy's initial reaction. Drema does need to die and I await for the day he meets glorious death. The ending to this whole story is gonna be incredible I know it. anyhow sorry I typed so much hope ya'll like my thoughts pls no hate just my personal take on things
I think you really hit it on the nose, it's another case of Dream trying to worm his way out of a situation. He's my second favourite after Awesamdude, he's such an intriguing character. And thank you so much! :D
@@darkside358 I love his character BECAUSE he is so evil. There are so many grey zones on dream smp and both dream and Wilbur know how to use those grey zones for their goals (and I think quackity joins those two). Dreams actions compared with what he claims to wanna archive with them are so likeable evils that I liked it when he lost etc.. ... I don't like that he is being tortured... And I wish afterlife wouldn't be limbo or some kind of hell of anyone. The most merciful thing would to end them inorder to protect others from them but they shouldn't have to endure such torture in return especially for this long. So I'm glad dream is alive and I hope he fails as his attempts of revange or is being stopped at some point because those are the most entertainment and satisfying bits (after he was able to produce damage). I have mixed feelings about killing him because of limbo but for everyone else it would be the best thing to happen.

This is an amazing train of thought. I adore c!Dream because he's a villain, but I also think that c!Dream is kind of a psychopath in that he has the traits of one (I definitely can't diagnose him since psychopathy is a mental illness). Dream has little to no ability to empathise with others. He can read people and make assumptions based on what he reads, that's how he can manipulate people to do what he wants, but he can't understand what he is doing is wrong, as the lack of empathy makes his moral compass completely self centred. If it makes him feel good, then it is good, and if it makes him feel bad, then it's bad. He doesn't consider what other people think and feel unless it affects him, and he will do whatever he can to get what he wants. That's why he does what he does with no remorse.
Dream: "I can't be telling people about the book, i mean, what if the wrong person knows" Me: Haha i mean, you're already the wrong person and we all know how that goes, so let's keep it at one wrong person

The Images Sam has when he says- “I might kill you!” Are such a *great* detail. Him yelling a dream with those Sharp teeth near the lava, then a snarling-like look with the smoke coming from his mouth, and then Dream cowering against the wall and the heartbeat we can hear- It’s amazing.
Omg.... I literally cannot with these. They are too good!!!! I love the part 34 seconds in with all the art from previous animatics. Sam is one of my favorites so it's super cool to see all this stuff about him.
The expressions are amazing, but I really liked the small touches you added. The strings from Dream, flashback to Ponk, the smoke from Sam's mouth and his growl... each of those details were a wonderful addition to the scene. I also like how you edited out the blooper so the scene would flow smoothly, but then still allowed us to see it at the end of the animatic. That was very considerate, thank you. The fact that Sam's mouth was smoking from irritation, dream frowning only on 8 frames out of all the 7mins of the animatic, the heart beat sound and glitching effect of Sam panicking and searching for dream! Hnnnggg i love how your c!Dream is always smiling! Iknow it's probably just meant to be creepy, but in my eyes, it feels like a defense mechanism, to avoid showing weakness or discomfort, because even when he's near powerless he still needs to feel like he's on top, or has something over someone. Or maybe I'm just projecting lol. But I sincerely love that aspect of your c!Dream design, no matter the intent behind it, it creates great atmosphere! Also, your c!Sam design/the audio you add for him is so well done, I adore your work!
I just adore the prison lore, goodness :') And this animatic, I adore just as much!! :D I love how Dream almost always keeps his smile, just like his mask, it makes the little moments where he doesn't just so much more satisfying. (also I'm gonna be honest, your design for the green man makes him look like a little brat and I adore this design choice) And sam... just.... you can tell you're having so much fun drawing him lmao, all the little details, his growl added in, whenever he sighs and gunpowder escapes from his mouth, he's your fav and that affection for the character just shows whenever you animate him! I adored the scene at the begining, with the adrenaline rush when he sees dream, and how it ends abruptly when dream removes willingly his mask (somewhat inviting him to remove it as well? Who knows) and the parts with tommy, it just shows how much he's been through and the misery he'd live in. It's wonderful Needless to say, your anatomy and art quality improved again!! It's getting better and better :D I think my favourite frame was 6:19. The emotions and motions going through it are just really well depicted! Once again, great job, grimmi :D And thank you for making such long animatics! they're time consuming to make, but the result is soo cool
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you think I improved! Tbh I draw him like that because I do see c!dream as a it of a brat haha, but also in this scene specifically I wanted to show Dream replicating some of Tommy’s mannerisms to lower Sam’s defences, You really called me out on there with Sam X’D but you’re completely correct, I adore drawing him and adding little details. With the mask, you got it exactly. Both wear masks, so both understand the vulnerability of taking it off and being face to face. Sam is being respectful of that by taking it off, and Dream is being a hypocrite because he still has his second mask up (the constant smile).

How he acts more like tommy in hope of sam being more merciful due to those reminders, very clever! And very fucked up for DREAM to try and immitate tommy x° lmao, I mean I do have my own favourite characters, I simply recognized a pattern here XD but it pays off! he's a really cool character :] Yeaahh, horray for good interpretation! I love especially how Dream lowers his mask with an almost innocent smile. It's nervous but it has a sort of untouched innocence to it??? I don't know how to describe it but this frame is rly good. (as for his constant smile, I guess that's what the point of the mask i- *gets shot*)

This is so awesome! I love the grin that Dream always has on and that they take off both of their mask to speak to each other too! It really shows that they’re still aware that they were both friends back then. I also really love the false sense of security of Dream, that he looks innocent but done horrible things. Absolutely stunning animation and gave me chills, and your designs for the characters are so unique!
Thank you for being one of the few people who included the dog in the lore, to me it shows how far sam has gone and changed and how ruthless they became as a prison warden, plus it foreshadowed how far he would go in the future
The blooper where Sam is like why were you on half a heart and him just failing to keep it together plus Dream realizing that he can’t talk his way out and is getting ever so slightly frustrated perfect
I've been going through all your DSMP Animatics and wow they get better and better. The one detail I really like about your Dream design is that while he's always smiling his eyes are incredibly expressive. Like you can tell what he's thinking from his eyes. Probably why he has a mask because his eyes give it away. I also love the way you draw Sam, the way you draw his expression too, you get the subtly just from their voices. Very nice!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! hehehe yes, that's intentional ;> So, with the masks, Dream and Sam are often hard to read. I hinted at this in a previous animatic, but Dream without a mask+showing his emotions humanizes him to Sam and that makes him uncomfortable (guilt). Taking off the mask is also a sign of vulnerability/honesty (though Dream doesn't live up to that). Sam putting the mask back on Dream's face is 1) closing the conversation, 2) dehumanizes him so that he can continue doing his job without feeling guilty about it Before he puts the mask back on, his hesitates for a moment, and just before he puts his own mask back on, there's a hint of guilt left over. So he put his own mask on to hide it. I hope that explains it! :D
You know, there was a time when I once disliked c! Sam because of what happened to Tommy and Ghostbur, but after watching these animatics, I now see him in a different light, and I really like c! Sam now because of it. Great work as always. (IRL Sam is amazing too!)

I thought the scene already couldn't get possibly better, but you made it so much better!
The absolute highlight is Dream. The way you draw him, the eeriness in how he continues to smile and how unfazed he appears to be, despite being nervous. He smiles because it's what lures people in, and here, where Sam and Dream are both without their masks, key elements to their characters, their facial expressions are fully on display. Yet while Sam is being honest about his anger, Dream isn't purposefully giving away his intentions. He's a planner, he knows how to control things to his advantage, including how he's perceived. The hint of a puppet-string even comes crawling out when he makes Sam think to himself, trying to latch on, because even though he's in this prison, he's still trying to get ahold of people.
Sam is brilliant in here as well, especially with the cuts to his own personal experiences as he talks to Dream, thinking about all the things he did wrong and all the things that are important to him. Sam knows he's done a lot of bad things, especially to Ponk, yet he still believes he's a good person at heart. "Good people do bad things" can apply to him personally, alongside what Dream might believe for himself. Throughout the animatic, Sam has his rage on full display, smoke threatening to spill from his mouth every time he talks.
The way you put Tommy in Dream's exact position, with the added bonus of Dream taunting him with streak, and appearing where the night sky would've been, it feels so cruel, with any sign of hope being crushed by him being there.
I appreciate the usage of the masks here too. When they speak to each other, both their masks are off, signaling something more open with each other. When the conversation ends, their masks are back on, and the communication is closed off.
This is just literally so cool, and it just does this scene so much justice! Amazing!

Partially unrelated, a friend and I have drawn parallels to JackSepticeye's evil ego, Anti? He been depicted with green Marinette strings too. One Jack's fans surmised that Anti was a Tulpa, a being that was brought to life by the shared belief in his existence amongst Jack's community.
I know the string is a visual representation of both character's manipulative tendencies. But what if both are the same? No one really knows what or who Dream is in the lore. Its entirely a mystery. We just know he wants control. So does Antisepticeye with Jack's community.
Its a theory. An odd one for sure but in its own twisted way, it might explain some things. I doubt its where the story is going but hey. There's an AU for you.
It's the fact that he looks more human and you can see his eyes expression when he has the mask off. When he has his mask on, you can't see his eyes (which is intimidating), but when he doesn't, his eyes convey a lot of expressions that he can't completely hide. (Kudos to Grimmijaggers for making Sam and Dream's faces so expressive)

Like I’ve said before, it seems that Sam doesn’t completely despise and hate Dream, he just doesn’t agree with his actions, as you can see because Sam isn’t entirely aggressive around Dream, unlike people who do hate Dream like Quackity or Tommy, and I love how this animatic really shows that very well.

I love how you portray Sam and Dream! Sam is both terrifying, but he also sounds so weary and disappointed, most likely in himself and Dream. And Dream is obviously terrified but also still cocky enough to try and hook Sam into his web again. I do feel some sympathy for Dream, but not enough to make me relent on him getting some karma. I think Sam's speech to Dream was also a pep talk for himself. I loved the little aggressive sounds and flashbacks you put in this video, as well as the expressions and body language to convey more emotion. Very well done!

The way Dream keeps smiling is so eerie here, but what makes this clip amazing I find is how the second Dream realizes Awesamdude has his number and throws his own suggestions back at him, his grin cracks. That feeling of all his alterations to the prison just getting tossed right back into his face, knowing that Quackity will vicously and brutally murder him with no mercy if he gets caught. But most of all, when Dream realizes that Sam is completely right. His smile falls and he is just wide-eyed on the ground in Sam's shadow, stuck with no way of escape on his own. He puts on the mask to hid that frown with a fake smile, the image that he is still in control when in reality everything he needs rides on the shoulders of someone else. A perfect animatic for two fantastically developed characters.

I like the little detail of the tiny string slowly, *slowly* , expanding from Dream's hand towards Sam as they're talking, like he's just getting slowly but surely closer to manipulating Sam into doing what he wants, until finally he slips up due to desperation of wanting to see the Sun again and the string disappears instantly as Sam goes off on him about how he's the villain in the story. Yet still, in the end, for a split second we see Dream's smile light up in it's old green, because now he *knows* , what does he know? He knows that Sam's resolve has weakened enough, he's slackened enough as a warden, he's gotten relaxed enough and uncaring of the rulers of the prison enough, that now Dream can finally properly manipulate him, and so Dream knows that with Techno coming to save him, and with himself having all the time in the world to manipulate Sam, he's *finally* about to see *HIS* sunrise once more.

Sam is standing his ground, but Dream now has a firm understanding if his weaknesses. Sam may be aware of Dream’s tricks, but he’s on the verge of completely breaking down.
This scene, especially when Sam reminds Dream of who made the decisions on some of the worse aspects of the prison, shows how little empathy Dream has. He doesn't care about what his actions does to others, not seeing what he is doing as being wrong, but if someone else does those same actions to him, then it's bad. Sam reminding him that this hell he is in was created by his decisions hopefully taught him a little empathy...

Interesting choice on how you drew Dream for this. He seems very young and has that strange out-of-place grin. That grin doesn't even look like Dream's normal crazy grin, it doesn't really seem to fit his speaking tone either. I'm curious what is going on there. Dream seems more like a brat then a mastermind who is caught off guard.
Still love your use of the strings though. Good job chopping up the audio, as normal.
That's intentional for this scene! In my mind, I wanted him to replicate some of Tommy's mannerisms to sneak past Sam's defenses (since he cares a lot for Tommy and he's basically his weakness). Also he's scared of Sam so-

What I love so much about this is that dream looks so cute, fluffy, and innocent like a child that knows his way out of problems and issues, It really sells the cute but not innocent vibes. I also love how they both took their mask off showing a level of openness between them. The details on everything is fucking amazing especially how dream strings try to wrap around sam indicating on how the green telatubby still has power and some level of control.
Edit: the smile that dream has 99% of the time is also creepy yet interesting, shows how comfortable and kinda relax he is even when he's nervous or scared.

Well, smiles are associated with positive emotions and that may be why Dream is almost always smiling. He wants to seem innocent and non threatening. Thing is, it isn't genuine and doesn't match what Dream is truly feeling (which is a lot of what Dream does)
The fact that Dream is still trying to ensnare Sam (at least in your animatic) baffles me. Like boi you're just pulling at the threads at this point, you don't really have that much power over Sam anymore.
Having said that, he managed to convince Sam not to tell Quackity, so maybe.
I love the small details in this; Sam's panic being used as an excuse as to why Dream was cutting out (very clever btw!!); the way Dream is always smiling, even without the mask; where the thread retracts when it/he realizes now was not the opportunity to trap Sam (best example: 2:25); Sam's EEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRSSSSSSS (srry I just really love it when people add attitude with ears or tails ^^); how when Dream said "If you die, you're dead forever", Sam looked disinterested, but as soon as he mentioned Tommy, it got Sam's attention (a deliberate move by Dream to further convince Sam).

the BEST part about dream's perma-smile, it makes his half-hearted/double standard moments really hit home, what was once used as a tool to unnerve people and flaunt his control, is now a detriment trying to convince anyone stronger than him.
It also makes his mask seem like a "lesser evil" in a sense, you know a mask can't change, so it's less off-putting and people might even take you more seriously, but a face is something most people have control over, and the fact that people can see he doesn't have such a basic capability, puts him at a psychological disadvantage.

Man, amazing. the expression, the anger and how Sam sound so exhausted. Dreams creepy innocent "i did nothing wrong" face was so creepy and unnerving. The part where Sam was reminding Dream that this was all his plan to make Tommy's prison life miserable really got me. like dang. The part where Tommy was looking at stars AND THEN Dream's face covered it creeps me out. that feeling beingg trap and miserable, that part really hurts thinking if that actually happen.

I love the way you can see in dream's eyes the fear, anger and other emotions, but his mouth keeps a smile through nearly all of the scene. It's just like his mask. Even though he doesn't have it on, it's still there. He's still forcing himself to smile.

When Dream frowns for that small amount of time, it feels like the most vulnerable he is in this animatic. A genuine anger that he believed that he would be safe and he's not and it's infuriating to him. And then he quickly pastes that smile back onto his face. it's a wonderful detail. I was half-convinced this was a "Dream physically can't stop smiling' thing but, nope! He's just being a creep!
Also! Also, I love that Dream just straight up didn't respond to Sam's allegations about his intentions for the prison and I whole-heartedly believe he hit the nail on the head. The reason I believe this is because on multiple occasions, when he's caught, called out, or can't see a way to twist the conversation in his direction, he goes silent and redirects. A few examples are: When Tommy demanded Dream to tell everyone what happened in exile (no one knows the full extent still T~T), when Tommy asked who Dream missed the most, and of course, when Sam asks if killing Tommy was a good person doing a bad thing. I love the consistency in his character. You can pick out clues on what certain behaviors mean based on past actions. Sorry, I know this is about Sam and you are THE Sam fan, but I find Dream incredibly fascinating. I also hate him so, so much. Obsessive, God-complex creep....

The most tragic part of this scene to me is that Dream and Sam weren’t wrong about the courtyard being a security issue. People are on top of the prison all the time, with tridents and with just building up. Getting up there has been shown to be trivial. Throwing down supplies or a trident or just using the courtyard as an entry point would make it much simpler to break into the prison. Minecraft mechanics as storytelling.
Once again, I have to say that the character designs are phenomenal,, I will always adore the way you incorporate creeper traits for Sam and Dream’s unwavering smile is so unsettling, amazing animation

This scene was just so utterly creepy to watch, int terms of character composition and development I love Dream, but in terms of who he is as a character, I hate him so much. He is just so truly evil and cruel and there is no apparent reasoning for it. And even though I know he has motivations for why he is doing bad things it doesn't justify him for having done terrible things, especially to Tommy. The way he even tries to manipulate reality by saying that "good people do bad things" as if somehow that made him a better person or excused his past actions was genuinely bone-chilling, then when Same called him out on it by asking him is what he did to Tommy was right Drema couldn't even answer him straight. He TOTALLY deflected the whole issue instead of responding. Yeah, Sam doesn't have any room to speak of himself as better, but honestly, I don't think Sam sees himself as that much better than Dream or really acre if he is or not, he doesn't see this as being about himself. Sam cares about the fact that Dream did terrible things especially to Tommy and deserves to be in the prison and He CALLS HIM OUT on it when he goes into that whole AWESOME but sickening monologue about all the terrible things in the prison being meant for Tommy. It was the first time I think anyone on the server has actually said out loud what has been on his mind from the get-go. Dream meant for the prison to be for Tommy. He literally has a God complex (says so to Tommy's face "I'm a God Tommy") where he can't see himself as doing anything wrong regardless of whether or not his actions are actually good. He doesn't think himself to be accountable to anybody, and he thinks he has the right to define what is good and what isn't based on whether or not it benefits him. Sam calls him out on that too when he says "oh right so it's okay if it's someone else but not if it's you" Dream is literally a psychopath with a God complex who has power over death. Which as far as villain characters go makes him horrifyingly badass and as a person (C!Dream not irl) makes him downright evil. Frankly, I go back to Tommy's initial reaction. Drema does need to die and I await for the day he meets glorious death. The ending to this whole story is gonna be incredible I know it. anyhow sorry I typed so much hope ya'll like my thoughts pls no hate just my personal take on things

@@darkside358 I love his character BECAUSE he is so evil. There are so many grey zones on dream smp and both dream and Wilbur know how to use those grey zones for their goals (and I think quackity joins those two).
Dreams actions compared with what he claims to wanna archive with them are so likeable evils that I liked it when he lost etc..
... I don't like that he is being tortured... And I wish afterlife wouldn't be limbo or some kind of hell of anyone. The most merciful thing would to end them inorder to protect others from them but they shouldn't have to endure such torture in return especially for this long.
So I'm glad dream is alive and I hope he fails as his attempts of revange or is being stopped at some point because those are the most entertainment and satisfying bits (after he was able to produce damage). I have mixed feelings about killing him because of limbo but for everyone else it would be the best thing to happen.

This is an amazing train of thought. I adore c!Dream because he's a villain, but I also think that c!Dream is kind of a psychopath in that he has the traits of one (I definitely can't diagnose him since psychopathy is a mental illness). Dream has little to no ability to empathise with others. He can read people and make assumptions based on what he reads, that's how he can manipulate people to do what he wants, but he can't understand what he is doing is wrong, as the lack of empathy makes his moral compass completely self centred. If it makes him feel good, then it is good, and if it makes him feel bad, then it's bad. He doesn't consider what other people think and feel unless it affects him, and he will do whatever he can to get what he wants. That's why he does what he does with no remorse.

Me: Haha i mean, you're already the wrong person and we all know how that goes, so let's keep it at one wrong person

The expressions are amazing, but I really liked the small touches you added. The strings from Dream, flashback to Ponk, the smoke from Sam's mouth and his growl... each of those details were a wonderful addition to the scene. This animatic was so cool! The fact that Sam's mouth was smoking from irritation, dream frowning only on 8 frames out of all the 7mins of the animatic, the heart beat sound and glitching effect of Sam panicking and searching for dream! Absolutely loved it 🤩!

Hnnnggg i love how your c!Dream is always smiling! Iknow it's probably just meant to be creepy, but in my eyes, it feels like a defense mechanism, to avoid showing weakness or discomfort, because even when he's near powerless he still needs to feel like he's on top, or has something over someone. Or maybe I'm just projecting lol. But I sincerely love that aspect of your c!Dream design, no matter the intent behind it, it creates great atmosphere! Also, your c!Sam design/the audio you add for him is so well done, I adore your work!

And this animatic, I adore just as much!! :D I love how Dream almost always keeps his smile, just like his mask, it makes the little moments where he doesn't just so much more satisfying. (also I'm gonna be honest, your design for the green man makes him look like a little brat and I adore this design choice)
And sam... just.... you can tell you're having so much fun drawing him lmao, all the little details, his growl added in, whenever he sighs and gunpowder escapes from his mouth, he's your fav and that affection for the character just shows whenever you animate him!
I adored the scene at the begining, with the adrenaline rush when he sees dream, and how it ends abruptly when dream removes willingly his mask (somewhat inviting him to remove it as well? Who knows) and the parts with tommy, it just shows how much he's been through and the misery he'd live in. It's wonderful
Needless to say, your anatomy and art quality improved again!! It's getting better and better :D I think my favourite frame was 6:19. The emotions and motions going through it are just really well depicted!

Tbh I draw him like that because I do see c!dream as a it of a brat haha, but also in this scene specifically I wanted to show Dream replicating some of Tommy’s mannerisms to lower Sam’s defences,
You really called me out on there with Sam X’D but you’re completely correct, I adore drawing him and adding little details.
With the mask, you got it exactly. Both wear masks, so both understand the vulnerability of taking it off and being face to face. Sam is being respectful of that by taking it off, and Dream is being a hypocrite because he still has his second mask up (the constant smile).

How he acts more like tommy in hope of sam being more merciful due to those reminders, very clever! And very fucked up for DREAM to try and immitate tommy x°

Yeaahh, horray for good interpretation! I love especially how Dream lowers his mask with an almost innocent smile. It's nervous but it has a sort of untouched innocence to it??? I don't know how to describe it but this frame is rly good. (as for his constant smile, I guess that's what the point of the mask i- *gets shot*)

This is so awesome! I love the grin that Dream always has on and that they take off both of their mask to speak to each other too! It really shows that they’re still aware that they were both friends back then. I also really love the false sense of security of Dream, that he looks innocent but done horrible things. Absolutely stunning animation and gave me chills, and your designs for the characters are so unique!

Thank you for being one of the few people who included the dog in the lore, to me it shows how far sam has gone and changed and how ruthless they became as a prison warden, plus it foreshadowed how far he would go in the future
Sam has always been kinda ruthless in a way, but he's really gone far since the prison
The blooper where Sam is like why were you on half a heart and him just failing to keep it together plus Dream realizing that he can’t talk his way out and is getting ever so slightly frustrated perfect

I've been going through all your DSMP Animatics and wow they get better and better. The one detail I really like about your Dream design is that while he's always smiling his eyes are incredibly expressive. Like you can tell what he's thinking from his eyes. Probably why he has a mask because his eyes give it away. I also love the way you draw Sam, the way you draw his expression too, you get the subtly just from their voices. Very nice!

So, with the masks, Dream and Sam are often hard to read. I hinted at this in a previous animatic, but Dream without a mask+showing his emotions humanizes him to Sam and that makes him uncomfortable (guilt). Taking off the mask is also a sign of vulnerability/honesty (though Dream doesn't live up to that).
Sam putting the mask back on Dream's face is 1) closing the conversation, 2) dehumanizes him so that he can continue doing his job without feeling guilty about it
Before he puts the mask back on, his hesitates for a moment, and just before he puts his own mask back on, there's a hint of guilt left over. So he put his own mask on to hide it.
