    Why do I still sell UVB fluorescent fixtures when there are UVA and UVB diodes available on the market?
    Buy the MIGRO UVB here: migrolight.com/collections/al...
    To demonstrate the difference in performance I compare a 100 watts LED UV bar grow light and a 20W UV fluorescent grow light for UVB and UVA output.
    The LED bar is a 100W2 x LED bar package from Mammoth lighting and includes UVB diodes (310nm) and UVA diodes (395nm). There are about 15 UVA diodes to every 1 UVB diode delivering the spectrum output below.
    The MIGRO UVB 310 Fluorescent emits a spectrum range from 280nm through UVA and into the visible range.
    I first tested each fixture for UVB output in a 5x5 or 1.5m x 1.5m test area at 40cm hanging height.I used the Solar Meter UVB sensor with a sensitivity range up to 320nm, just before the start of the UVA range.
    The 100W UV LED bar delivers an average of 6µW/cm² over the test area.
    The MIGRO UVB 310 is only 22W consumed but delivers 7 x times more UVB than the LED fixture.
    The UVB LEDs are only about 1/15th or about 6 to 7 watts of the total output so the UVB output per watt is quite high but the total amount of UVB delivered is low compared to the 22W UVB Fluorescent.
    I then tested both fixtures for UVA output using the Apogee SU-200 UVA sensor with the following sensitivity
    The Mammoth LED bar delivers an average UVA output of 576W/M²
    The MIGRO UVB 310 emits an average UVA intensity of 217 W/M²

    Blog post here: migrolight.com/blogs/grow-lig...
    The MIGRO UVB 310 emits about 40% as much UVA as the Mammoth LED bars but only consumes about 20% of the power. Therefore the MIGRO UVB is over twice as efficient in delivering UVA to the plant canopy as the LED bar.
    The 100W LED bars cost 2 to 3 times as much as the 20W UV Fluorescent fixtures but are much less efficient. My conclusion is that UVA and UVB LEDs are not yet effective or cheap enough to compete with fluorescent technology

    Man thank you for your UV videos. I can certainly confirm that uvb works great for extra potency, smell and colour of fruits and flowers.
    Makes strawberries sweeter and kills bugs for example.
    I wish you could do a 110-120cm long uv light like a dual bulb setup something that will fit between the bars of 120x120 lights like the Lumatek 600w fixtures.

      Gotta be careful with just thinking I'll add another because you can really hurt yourself growing and your skin. He suggests this 2 footer for a reason. You can't just add what you want with the frame of mind that it will just double up gains. If that were true he wouldn't say run for 2 hours day for last 3 week's flower. There is another bulb that will definitely do what your asking for but contact me off his sire because I'm not gonna do anything to hurt Shane's buisness, he has the right to market his fixture and it is a great product also great buy I have been responsible for selling many lights for him I just don't put it out there nor do I ask Shane to compensate me. I'm involved with several chat sessions with several cannabis hero's, expert's, and growers commercial and home and I'll stand up for his work any day of the week.

    I currently use UV-b & a t5's during flower for very brief intervals during the lights on cycle (different brand though) The downside to repeated on and off of fluorescent bulbs is that they burn out quicker vs leaving them on for long periods. The intensity is no joke though, even with my little 24 watt jobbies. Tested the bulbs when i first got them, turned them on let em warm up,3 ft distance for about 4 min, next day my face and neck and forearms were fried. Less like an actual sunburn and more like true radiation burns with instant scabbing. So just a heads up, use caution around them when they're on and definitely wear sunglasses

    I use whatever is the highest quality UV led at the time of ordering and order batches of 20 and solder them myself. Probably not going to replace them next time they burn out. Was running reef tank floros for a decade because it made the plants purple and everyone wanted purple product for a while there.

    I can't help but notice how casual Shane is about being around both these lights while they are running, often turning around and letting them shine into his eyes. Are these lights not as dangerous to us as they are made out to be?
    I have the California Lightworks UVBs. They are made in China, and the plugs fit the fixtures so loosely that simply brushing against them breaks the connection. I received emails regularly from CLW, promoting their products. When I mentioned the poor quality of their fixtures, I never heard from them again. I don't bother to use them much, because the difference they make in the plants is minimal at best.

      These lights are uva.. the migro is 310nm - uvb starts at 285nm-315nm , uva from 315nm-400ish. Uva is abundant outside, so the spectrum in both of these lights is relatively safe.. granted the florescent t8 light could give you a tan if kept close enough. The California lightworks bulbs are t5 75% uvb 25% uva with a spectrum comparable to agromax pure uvb. I use a combination of agromax bulbs : uva+, pure veg+ uv & pure uvb all in 48" and I have the 2' California lightworks uvb system... for the price California lightworks sucks, it's potent but the coverage sucks. Better off with 4' either Agromax, EyeHortilux, Migro, Phillips or ( Solacure which I lump with California lightworks) because they have built in reflectors inside the bulb that lowers the uv penetration.. Shane covered this issue in another video where he tested them all.

      I may be wrong, but i read somewhere that if you include the UV sooner, the plant's defenses will have more time to get used to the UV and they won't necessarily create more resin. Apparently they will create the same amount of resin and trichomes as if the UV is introduced in the last 2 weeks, but the process is slower and stretched over more weeks. And the plant will grow slower because it's dealing with a mild form of stress from UV. I guess it would be better for the plant generally speaking, but you may not get the desired results (worth the try though) One good thing i imagine the trichomes will have more time to mature and become milky. In the last 2 weeks new trichomes could be only clear. Just keep in mind that the blue/violet spectrum in UV also produces a more compactness, so the buds could be smaller but more dense.

    long life to the UV fluorescent lamps !!!
    The current UV leds are commercial gadgets, but they have the merit to be placed in the same place as the main lamp. The fluorescent lamp is placed on top and bakes the cables.

    I’m running 2 Migro UV lights in my 5 x 5 tent, I only grow for the oil because I don’t smoke, but I make a paste( no filtering of particulate matter) and almost no alcohol by volume, equal amount glycerin for years and soon as I added the Migro UV my oil increased because of a noticeable bud size increase 30%, a noticeable increase. I use 4” rock wool cube on 9” slabs and feed with Mantis Buffered Nutrients with the Migro 600 lights over the lot in a high C02 environment during flower and I’m so happy with it all.

    I have this mammoth 48" uva-b light bar. I have yet to try it out. Yeah it's been sitting here on a shelf for far to long. Ty for the video, and reminding me that I need to get her hooked up.
    Also I realize the coverage won't be great in a 7x7x8' room. However if I hang it high a let it fly - will I still get some benefits of the benefits?

    • @twentytwo138
      @twentytwo138 2 года назад +2

      Sure you will get benefits, but you'll have to raise it higher than the main lights which will create a shadow and block some of the UV. And the further the UV is, the longer it needs to be on. And they say that even if only a part of the plant is hit with UV, the defense mechanism for creating more resin will trigger throughout the whole plant.
      I don't know the coverage of your UV bar, but maybe you could do only half the tent with UV, that way you will get full benefits on one side at least, rather than barely any benefits in the whole tent. And it's a good chance for you to test it directly, see the difference between the UV and non-UV buds :)

    • @littlenugs9942
      @littlenugs9942 Год назад

      @@MrBlueYoMind it's not hype! From my own personal experience I used the one bar over part of the grow 😁. The flower under it seemed to have more trichrome production. I ran it for 1-3 hrs a day. I'm looking into adding 3 more bars in my space. However there kind of expensive, and if I went with mammoth led, it would break the bank. Looking into other brands now that have similar size bars for half the price.

    I never really understand what is the appliance of the UV spectrum on grow light. What kind of development the UV promotes? Within scale of spectrum, the UV is more effective? On my unscientific approach an invisible spectrum that occurs below the blue spectrum ( on a range of 190 up to near 400 ūmol). According to graphics where is the UV spectrum placed by simple logic the UV spectrum should be an extension to the blue spectrum and its utility according to the fact that the UV normally is a spectrum that lead to changes on genetics and it is lethal within large exposure....but my opinion is that the UV spectrum probably is a very effective spectrum for clones and beggining on seedling. Most of the LED brands on the market scarcely present on their performance graphics peaks of UV spectrum...one of the brands that normally presents strong peaks of UV spectrum (radiation) is the line TITAN P by Solux (that have three switches, with full spectrum working, growing switch and blooming switch...so on the growing switch is very noticeable with a COB 30w output the existance of a peak of UV spectrum and my common sense opinion is that the UV is mainly a support for clones, even because I cannot determine what is the Kelvin spectrum colour of an UV spectrum, so a regular grow of 6500 to 4000k is out of the latency of the UV spectrum.

      I have a similar condition. Seems like sound quality is not a consideration on half the RUclips channels. So I always assume it's crap and start with the volume turned down to where it's barely audible and be ready to pause immediately. If it seems OK, I'll turn it up a little at a time. Else I turn off the sound and use CC. I've tried to advocate for better sound quality on some of my favorite channels, but never had any success. As usual, the onus is on us...
