Im not american but my grandparent is a twin, 2 of my great uncles on diff sides of the family are twins and my cousins are twins. Its all genetics, but on both sides of the family.

@@melina821 , best advice I can give is remember that your twins are individuals who merely share a birthday. My two are as different as night and day and each required to be treated differently. This sounds obvious but, is surprisingly difficult when you couple that with being twins. For instance, my son is a new doctor, having graduated from medical school this past May. He went all through high school and college with blinders on, focused on becoming a doctor. My daughter recognized that and internalized it to mean she was stupid compared to her brother and, instead focused on everything else (and I mean everything) instead of school. Now at 27, he is settling into his residency and she is still struggling to find out who she is and what she needs.
@@melina821 I'm not a mom, but I'm a twin, and I think that what the other twin mom said is so important and so true. Always treat them like individuals, don't compare them (don't say things like "this is the good one, this is the troublemaker, this is the smart, this is the artist...") You can make them try deliberately to fit in that role (and truly believe that they are less smart, less artistic, less strong...). Remember twins are constantly being compared, and that's annoying, and could damage their self-esteem. Also, it's a good idea to make them study in different classrooms, so both learn how to make friends. Many twins rely on the other twin for different stuff, like socializing. I know twins that don't even speak, not because they can't, but because their sister speaks for both always.

Lol I have 3 aunts (on my mom's side) that had twins. A cousin that had twins. My maternal grandma is not a twin but her sister is and and SHE had a set of twins and two of HER daughters had twins and one of her granddaughters are due with twin this June... Lol I'm scared.

Don´t worry about it. The father-to-be´s side doesn´t matter in that. (Guessing from your screen name, that you are male.)
Only fraternal twins are due to genetical factors and those solely on the mother-to-be´s side.
Identical twins are always by chance though.

That's what I thought. I never get why american women seem not to have any other way to show their joy and excitement. As a european woman, this always looks way over the top to me. Plus, pretty much the same each time, almost without any variety. But my impression very liklely is due to cultural differences, I guess.
