That was lovely seeing your dad.
Looks like he might be half convinced to move here someday himself! 😉
Lotta roos out on the course...which is "par for the course" in Aus. Pun intended

    Mr. Johnston,
I am so happy to see your dad, Mr. Johnston. For the exact reason that your father stated, I left the UK for Canada after living in the UK
for 15 years as an immigrant. Now suddenly, I have an eye on Australia.

Navigating the parent visa labyrinthine information is a nightmare…. We’ve just spent a month researching which visa offshore/onshore or non contributing or contributing…. I could go on to talk about Bridging Visas…. and the aged parent visa 67+…. my brain 🧠 is fried…. but we’ve decided to go for a tourist 600 then apply onshore for an 864 (takes 12 years and lots of ££) and then a BVA (bridging visa that allows you to volunteer).

Australia is in a housing crises rental queues can easy be 100 deep to see a rental and be prepared to bid for a rental my sons are very well educated and pay half their pay in rent. Perth is the one of the cheapest states to live in the others forget it. A slum in Sydney is 40 to 50km out is $800k and the 3 main cities are in the top 3 cities expesive in the world for realestate. We have rampage at hospitals and people are dyeing while sitting in a ambulance. There is 10-15 year waiting list for a housing commission house. I have not seen in my 60 years of life here the mass number of homeless living in parks.

@@jondoe5536 did I actually say there wasn't. NO silly Billy but smart people don't pay more than 20% of there income in housing except if you are buying sounds like the degrees they got were obsolete expensive pieces of paper you don't need any qualifications to be successful unless of course you believe in the media bs they spew out every day to you.. Ps stop thinking I'm against you I'm against the bs media telling you what to do and think

Yes I’m reading that occupancy is at 99.3% in Perth and rents are going up 30-40% at the end of tenancy agreements. Lots of tenants being turfed out to impose higher rents are held to random in effect.Homeowners are now advertising for Motorhomes to park on their drives for $1000 a month!!

My second comment is about moving your SIP pension from the UK to Australia it’s a complete nightmare- you lose 25% immediately and you lose control of your pension in Australia…. more research needed but it’s not looking good. Inheritance tax is an issue if 15/20 years were domiciled in UK…. so you’d miss out on 0%

after a recent trip to London I must point out that Australia does not do cheese and onion sandwiches.
