So for an extra £200 a month you can live in that massive house in Australia with a pool opposed to a dinky 3 bed semi just off the council estate in the UK - no brainer!

I would lucky to spend more the $100 a year on chemicals for my salt pool. I live in Adelaide. Its cheap to run, the spa on the other hand uses a lot of power. Solar helps.

Total garbage. A five bedroom house in Australia is way more expensive than most 3 bedrooms here. I sold a four bedroom home in Melbourne in 2017 for over $650,000 it would be close to a million now. Yes you get a bigger home but we lived a hour out of the city. Comparing Aussie homes to those in the UK is pointless. You will be paying more in Australia but it will be bigger. Australia is only for the rich now, if you are poor in the UK you will be poorer in Australia.

    Really helpful video.
In the last few weeks alone the energy bills in the UK have gone up by an average 54% per household. Mine have basically been doubled. Council tax and national insurance has both gone up as well. Making the cost difference probably even smaller.
That aside the my partner and I have been watching your videos for a while now and have really helped us conclude the move would be right for us. The value added for Australia is the lifestyle, the weather and space.
Keep up the good work. Thanks

Living in Australia right now and the cost of living here is very high and rising! Food is rising, energy bills, petrol and you need cars as public transport may as well be non existent. As for Furniture, bedding, electronics etc always been more expensive than the uk. The isolation here if you don't have family is also pretty bad. So just some things to consider but tbh once you have the itch to move i know what its like and nothing will stop you!

I am sure the place has changed considerably since we were living there and your videos give us a great insight into how far our pensions will go. I know it is a bit specific but more info on your solar system would be interesting We installed one on our house in the UK and as long as pick your moments to run things it can save you quite a bit. As an Australian, our health industry is through the universe. People cant afford private cover.
Many people now dont bother with doctors.
Also, all business rent here has all " collapsed "
Management can't afford to pay rent .
So, a lot of small businesses are closing here.
There are alot of homeless low income people here , who are finding it very hard to make ends meet.

Interesting video. It is difficult to compare prices from one place to another when your home is significant difficult to the one you left in the UK.
It is too long since I left the UK to do a similar comparison but I found insurance particularly expensive in NZ, our water rates are included in our rates, which seem expensive, the joy of living in a small township as opposed to a more populous city.
My partner and I are both earning more in NZ than we did in the UK but the significant difference is job security, and the opportunity to move on to something better. In the UK it seemed hard to find a role in the same industry let alone change industries, here they give more opportunity and see skills as transferable.

Long story short, prices are about the same, bit cheaper in Aus.
Aus you get lower quality houses but much bigger living space.
UK the houses are better built, but much smaller and less living space.
Aus wins for the simple reason that DETACHED is not a feature reserved for rich people only. In UK you aren't getting a detached for less than 300k (Approx 600k aus) my cousin just bought a detached in Ipswhich, QLD for 350k aud ( approx 175k gbp)
One thing about Aus that I did notice is that you don't have to move to far from aa major City to experience big drop in prices.
UK has this thing called commuter belt (like a virus that spreads from cities to increase house prices) where if a town or a city is in anyway connected to a major city like London by easy motorway access or a train station, you will find that the prices are very high and since UK is very small, you will very often find yourself near one of these commuter belts, meaning you have to live very remote or in the north to get a good price.

  • @matthewthorpe414
    @matthewthorpe414 Месяц назад

These figures are totally made up. I left Melbourne in 2015 and our monthly utilities bill was in the $500 region. No way would your bill be that low without solar and I’m sure you have factored in the cost of that. The mortgage amount might be ok but a house that size in Queensland’s would be twice if not three times the cost of a three bedroom in UK.

When it comes down to it money really doesn't come into it , I'd wager that you wouldn't be any better off even if you were a millionair in England its all about quality of life . I'm sure that people could be perfectly happy living anywhere as long as your free and have the necessities of life . Its all about what you've already got , that whirlwind bundle of future mayhem and pure joy , my baby girl is now 50 yrs old and I've just attended my granddaughters wedding so I'm hoping I get to hold agreat grandbrat one day and I hope that they are as happy as your anklebiter obviously is and all that happiness comes without a price tag .

Oh lordy that one is handful. She wouldn't like me, grumpy old man syndrome. It's going to be fun when the newbie comes along. You'd have to better off, just the sun alone makes it all worthwhile. But I guess your introduction to Queensland weather has been a bit on the wild side. Luckily no cyclones but winter is approaching and there's always a couple form up north so that'll be fun for you to experience.

Tasmanian prices have sky rocketed in the past two years. Home prices have jumped $200 000 plus, hard to get rentals for under $500/week. Land prices near to where i live have increased from $125 000 to $350 000 in the past 3 years. Don't get me started about health care costs, for me to see the gp it is $91 per visit. There are pension discounts. Very few gp's bulk bill, accept Medicare payments only so you are paying over and above prices compared to the Medicare rebate.
So before coming to Australia do your homework. The pound is worth more than the Australian dollar so you will have a few more pennies when you get here.
The pandemic has made things much more expensive.

I would get your visiting rellies to get their $Aussie now - it is at a 4 year high against the £. I might be wrong but I think it will only get worse. We export coal, lpg gas, wheat etc all of which will be impacted by Ukraine. Aussie exports over 50% food grown here whereas UK imports nearly 50%. Plus prior to Brexit average was around 47 cents - it is now 58 cents - again that might get worse with the way Brexit is going. Bad if you want to emigrate - but makes UK visits cheaper for us.

@@krisjames4276 Some parts of the east coast are definitely having a lot of rain this summer but it's called La nina & is due to the warming ocean temps from Sth America trade winds. This is what causes the excess moisture & becomes rain. The rest of Australia re rain... not at all.
Also need to remember, when it rains here it's still warm. Humidity has been a factor but thankfully that seems to be subsiding for a bit down here in Sydney atm.
As for the more rain in a day than UK has in a year, even though that may be an exaggeration it's true to the extent that we have torrential downpours at the end of a hot day, but they only last 10 mins then the sun is back as if nothing happened, leaving everything steamy. Far better than UK's constant drizzle. IMHO :)
