FOOLISH FISH just swimming around nibbling on and going further than most.
Have you ever read a book that loosed something psychological or energetic. IE NECRONOMICON
this book will not go over well with my dyslexia.
I got this one and the reader's edition. Indeed, it's a privilege to be alive for this book to finally be released to the public.
You have such a soothing and calming voice. Have you ever considered making a video where you just read a short story/fairy tale?
There are a few on my channel ;)
I would have said your voice is so soothing that you should try recording self hypnosis videos, like Michael sealey 💜
Please don't stop the book reviews though 💜
I’ve just ordered this, and the reader edition for my own birthday gift. Wanted to buy this when it was first available to purchase, and now can afford to buy it. It’s been a long awaited joy to get it. Your review is wonderful. Thank you!
I could feel the joy you experienced so much so that I decided to buy this book as a gift for someone I hold dear to my heart. Thank you.
Jung is just like William Blake. They both illustrated their thoughts, and both had VISIONS, vivid imagination, and it had meaning to them.
If you think so, then you know nothing about CGJung.
the visual arts are so stunning ,this man jung took LSD before even it was a thing, and straightaway poured onto paper whatever he saw in his 'trip'.....what a beautiful priced possession that every book lover would want to adorn their shelf with.
For what i know Carl Jung always spoke out against drug use ..
Itachi Uchiha I said lsd only as a metaphor, not in a literal way by the way....
yes he reached a point of self analysis that is inhuman for a normal person
wtff
Please..... These experiences are reachable (for some) without any substances.
Jung is how I got into the esoteric world, wife gave this behemoth of a book las Christmas; only complaint is the dust cover, it’s really cheap for such a pricey book!
Thanks a lot for this review. I was looking for a present for my little brother who's a psychologist and he'll absolutely love this.
Thanks again for another "illuminating" review! As an early birthday present (I cannot justify the price any other way!), I have ordered this amazing treasure - as you say - and I cannot wait for it to arrive...
Oh, wow! I can't think of a better birthday present! (I admit I used the same excuse! XD )
Got it for $198 got $150 for my birthday so I’ll look at it as an early birthday gift. It arrives tomorrow, I’m beyond excited
Wow! A very worthy birthday present indeed! Congratulations, and Happy Birthday! :)
@@FoolishFishBooks Thank you Foolish Fish! I've read a few passages and my purchase was well worth it. Thank you for your content, I greatly appreciate your book reviews.
Yes!!! I’ve been wanting for you to review this gem! I’ve been trying to find it but it’s expensive online 😭
Honestly, it's taken 10 years of checking prices and watching how much disposable income I have to finally make the move. Worth every penny!
Wow! That book is mind blowing, thank you for showing
My pleasure! Thanks for watching! :)
Who will ever read a book like that from A-Z?
Whoever owns that level of interest and effort must be able to achieve everything in life. Really.
I was wondering the same thing. I am having a hard time reading a Masonic book from front to back
P WHALES - What masonic book is it?
"Who will ever read a book like that from A-Z?" I did. But I had an interest in it at the beginning, the written material is not merely fluffy or structured narrative like Lewis' Narnia or Tolkien's Middle Earth. It's complex to the ultimate degree. First, and to the last, I used the smaller Reader's Edition first, but after a couple months I bought the big facsimile edition to have access to the mandalas et al, for attempting some meaning interpretation. Personally I did NOT need a picture book to satisfy any aesthetic need or curiosity, and it wasn't bought as a coffee table art book, rather I wanted to specifically study the possible inception and after-affect meaning of the paintings. Lots of ideas on that, integrated. And full disclosure (as if it even needs mention?! haha), it IS an amazingly beautiful book. But especially when made as a support to the written words. The Introduction section in the book by Sonu Shamdasani is 100 pages, and I had to study that intro for some weeks before getting into Liber Primus, early 2018. The Intro is extremely important.
What a beautiful book!
Yes, I'm in awe. I've seen so many flip throughs and pictures, but the physical presence of the object is breathtaking.
A true masterpiece, and truly among my most treasured books of the collection. Game-changing.
Game-changing is exactly right! 😊 How are you getting on, Gabriel? I have to admit this lockdown suits me quite well... 😂
@@FoolishFishBooks Quite fine thank you, I'm already a Hermit, and will adapt no matter what. Leaves me plenty of time to write the new book. That being said, it is somewhat hard on business, that goes without saying... hopefully things will pick up soon!
@@gmccaughry Yeah, for sure there are ups and downs... Kepping my fingers crossed and optimistic thoughts for Anathema! We need you badly! :D
@@FoolishFishBooks Thank you very much kind sir!
Thanking you for the review I wanted to add that the wear and tear of the book will be reduced if you flip the pages from the sides, not the center.
I am getting this version and the reader's edition. This book is AMAZING!! Thanks for the upload!!
Nice! It's so beautiful. Actually however, Jung began writing this after the split with Freud, and continued into later life.
I have a reader's copy. A superb book! Someday I hope to buy a full version. 💗
I've been really loving your videos! I wanted to ask, do you know why Jung chose this medieval style? I happen to be doing an art piece for college and decided I wanted to make a book of dreams in a medieval style, having never seen a page of the red book.... then I went to the library and had a flick through it was nearly disheartening, Jung has already nailed it better than I could dream to!!!
A stunning book! Thank you 🌟for this magnificent review. I feel fortunate to have the A Reader's Edition.
Ah yes, that reader's editing is also a delight in itself!
I removed the dust cover on my Liber Novus (I have my own youtube vid doing an opening and review, a couple years ago). The dust jacket on mine came pre-warped, within the shrinkwrap before pealing it off, before the boxing from printer to put in packing box to send to wholesalers, whomever in the printer factory had grabbed it with such an angular force that their thumb or whatever, pushed in on the dust jacket and dented/warped it, just shy of creasing it.
Anyway, I too think it could have been better, but for these two years I've basically left the thing on the top of a shelving unit in the inner box, wrapped in a clean towel, so the entire box represents a dust cover. Also the sturdiness of the inner product box was comforting as a way to keep the thing extra safe.
Commenting on this here, it's particular based on your comments around 1:30 ..
Commenting on the specific content of the writings takes a whole other investment. I studied it cover-to-cover for two years (primarily the reader's edition so I could focus on the written content) and have integrated a significant percentage of the meanings. It covers the history/backstory and the characters in previous rooms around the time the Dead were on their way to Jerusalem, before returning which lead to the Seven Sermons which were among the works of Jung actually published years ago. But also the intersection of Philemon with the dead, and Philemon with spirits of depths/times.
On recent days in the sarscov2 culture we're living in, thoughts have drifted to I think chapter 2 or 3 of Liber Secundus, "One of the Lowly", and the idea of people not being willing to struggle, the pride that impedes thriving at a basic level when expectation/demand exists in one's soul, for fulfillment of high society level of existence. It's been helpful lately, one of the side stories that doesn't have much connection to the rest of the stories in the book. Might make a video on that. But my most significant personal appreciated stories are (in no order): The Desert, The Magician, Castle in the Forest, Murder of the Hero, The Anchorite Day 1.
By the way, Philemon Foundation has finished the facsimile and put the Black Books into pre-order, will be released in a couple months (October 2020 according to the latest release date).
Such great insights. I have the readers edition already and I’m really close to getting the full one as it’s been discounted by a local book shop. I’m so tempted, it looks so amazing to just flip through and mediate with.
@@praisethesunn6541 How far have you read through the readers edition?
Edge of Thought - Ideas far enough to realise that I needed to read a separate book to understand it! It’s wonderful though, it’s almost difficult to read because Jung was pushing himself almost beyond sanity. By the way, I watched your video and I bought the damn thing. Waiting for it now :)
*thank you* for showing the *Table of Contents* and I love that just like - how far later in time - Carl Sagan asked re: his use of the plant medicine of cannabis, Carl Jung told his family:
wait until a certain amount of time has gone by/AFTER I pass from this world, to release my Red Book text for public consumption.
because they *BOTH knew* that those who sang their praises, AFTERWARDS, would have a very challenging time - suddenly - trying to disparage and de-legitimize their amazing, awesome works and HOW they walked their own paths..as well as they would have a difficult time getting away with saying terrible things about *some* of their 'controversial' methods of experiences.👍
a significant & great investment you made into a hard-back binding of the *Red Book.* well done, *you.* 🙂
The font of his writing you are referring to is called Fraktur - the old german caligraphy. Used to be written till the 30's of last century in german speaking countries (especially).
His black books out soon in October!
I really can't wait! :) Heavy on the old wallet, once again, though...
Just watched your older video on 'The Art of C.G.Jung'... pleased you got your hands on this edition. Enjoy!
I'd looooove to get my hands on this! Unfortunately only seen it for over 200 American dollars so, that's definitely not happening. There's a 'reading edition' that's affordable but none of the illumination, illustrations or anything other than the translation.🙁
Nice to get a look at it though, stunning!
I was quite lucky to pick this up from amazon for just $105 at the beginning of the year, which considering the full price, was an amazing deal. Have not read the whole thing yet so I'm trying to avoid the being one of those people that just look at the images as you said haha
I am telling you I will need to end our friendship! Another $$ of the window. But totally worthy. The psychological and spiritual connection of this book is just magnificent. When you compare this book with the J.R.R Tolkien red book I can not top thinking of the example you give on W.B. Yeats book review on the collective unconsciousness or collective imagination.
Haha! I can honestly say I've rarely spent my money more worthily! This really hit the spot :D @James Skinner (here in the comments suggested a video a few moments ago that I think you'll like on the topic of Jung and Tolkien...
Jaja, totally agree with you. Yes, that is the video was while she was working on her Doctoral dissertation in 2014, here is her video of the dissertation on 2018 on the topic, Is pretty the same info ruclips.net/video/3soOYajHUBM/видео.html Just fascinating!
There are some very complex chapters in this book that I know would be more meaningful if I could get a better grasp on the allusions, literary and legendary. Even after reading the footnotes thoroughly.
Could you recommend any online communities, videos, lectures, etc to help further my understanding?

Who would you say the book is for? For someone just getting into Jung, I only read 'Man and his symbols', would this book be for a budding jungian? Or start with other works of his and work my way up towards this?
I would recommend against diving into the Red Book right away if you haven't read more than 'Man and his Symbols.' Man and his Symbols is a great start. Maybe go next to Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious, or Psychology of the Unconscious, or Memories Dreams Reflections to name just a few. There's lots of directions to go from there. Knowing how Jung builds the psyche, the forces that act upon it, and how symbolism and imagery emerge from the unconscious - both individual and collective - is fairly essential in my opinion to understanding what you find in the Red Book. Otherwise, just about nothing in the book would make sense. Even with a working understanding of Jung, a lot of the Red Book is (to me anyway) fairly inscrutable. As Mr. Fish alludes to, Jung said that his life's work was an elaboration of the contents of the Red Book, so by necessity, the Red Book demands a lot of unpacking and interpretation.
In any case, the book is fascinating, and if you really want to dive in don't let me stop you. I would say, though, that you wont get nearly as much from it if you read it now than you would if you read other works by him first. That, for what it's worth, is my opinion on the matter.
Have you purchased the black books and if so, will you review them?
I would love to buy them myself but they are just so expensive...
The maker of the video is misinformed. The Red Book (Liber Novus) was not made at the end of Jung's life (He died in 1961). It was composed when Jung was ~39, between 1913-1916 and completed by ~1926.
I was gifted this recently. Amazing
Absolutely stunning 💫

@@FoolishFishBooks Love u r channel man. Keep it Up
@@FoolishFishBooks Beginner as well, please!
A beautiful artifact. The art alone merits purchase...another one for the list.
I find aspects of Jung's work interesting, but I feel that many of his ideas were confused. He borrowed liberally from Buddhism but often seemed to misunderstand the dhamma. Having said that, I read recently that Jung came to believe quite strongly in rebirth but that his editors excised those beliefs from his autobiography 'Memories, Dreams, Reflections', as both his family and editors feared for his reputation.
However from a purely scholastic perspective I'm quite interested in Jung's contribution to the Western magickal tradition. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on this Dennis?
I could even smell it xD..I have the audiobook halfway thru but would love to get the physical copy.
Wow, this one is even pricier than my leather-bound copy of the Triangular Book of St. Germain... But this tome is definitely far more valuable! 🤩
A Very Beautiful Red Book by Carl Jung
1:09 Oh man ... you haven't even opened the dang Red Book and I'm already Green with envy!!!!! 😆😆♥♥♥
5:37 lol, I just knew you were gonna say that you also bought a callig pen 📖🖋
😅
So I'm warring in my head whether or not to get this facsimile edition now that it's currently $150 on Amazon. I'm 2/3 through The Readers Edition and Jung is by far my favorite author and intellect thus far. What I'm wondering is do you feel it's worth it for the price in terms of how it's made? Like is the binding sturdy and does the book feel like it will hold up? I've read some reviews that say it's not the best binding so I'm just really worried granted the price, but it's still a First Edition so I feel the value might go up in the future, maybe. Any input on the matter would be greatly appreciated!
Yes, I think that's actually a very good price for it. It's definitely the crown jewel of my collection.
Reminds me of Liber Al
Yes. Jung's insights are very parallel to Crowley's.
Both were rejected in their time and are only now gaining some
respect outside the realm of occult nerds.
Beautiful.
Thank you.
Excellent, this one is high on the list :)
More Visionary Mandala Divinatory Oracle than Book...
I wish I had bought it as soon as it was published. Now it's soo expensive!
It's one of only two books which I tolerate despite not fitting on the bookshelf.
JEALOUS! I have been wanting this for so long! but also happy you have it :) Where are you going to put this enormous tome? haha.
😊 It took a bit of saving up for this one, not gonna lie! It's the most expensive book I own, and don't expect it ever to be surpassed.
As it happens, there was one last slot left for it with my other outsized tomes under the TV. It now has Florilegium, Canticle of the Birds, Yvain and Lancelot, The Egyptian book of the Dead and the Book of Kells to keep it worthy company 😄.
I believe that C.G. Jung used magical mushrooms.
Was is a first printing first edition?
Got readers edition, but really want to get this one to.
The reader's edition is also gorgeous, I love that soft leather cover...
Beautiful 😁
He experienced the hga
I wonder what Jung would say about a dream I had a while back where me, Batman and a framed picture of Superman were fighting against Dracula and three faceless vampires in a basement of an old house. Batman began to sodomize Dracula. Then Mulder and Scully of The X-Files showed up and told me to get out because there was a bomb. I jumped in an old rusty truck with appliances in the back which caused me to get stuck in the dirt driveway. Then I woke up.
Good times. Those are the dreams that make sleep time worth it 😂
I know that my comment might be misunderstood by some bit that was one awesome dream! Awesome!⚡️🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Can I just say cool dreams 😄
Also Batman sodomizing Dracula kind of hot I'd pay to see that
I was very excited to see your review of this (tingles, very funny). Yes I’ve used the word calligraphic (and it was in my spell checker), the calligraphy is very entrancing and takes you away to another place. The calligraphy I do is not English or any other language I recognise it’s just symbols but incredibly relaxing like going on a journey. There’s a very interesting video here I’ll share, it’s a student who’s a big fan of Tolkien and she’s really into active imagination, here she makes a comparison between Jung’s red book and Tolkien’s red book, fascinating stuff ruclips.net/video/l6oh14vfhlI/видео.html
I've seen that video, it's fascinating! I love how she draws attention to how the mountain on the cover of the hobbit would be a perfect mandala if viewed from above :D
Wow
It's SO expensive
Yes! Though when (if?) you see it in real life, you'll see why...
@@FoolishFishBooks Oh it’s definitely near the top of my list
