@@vicbirth1649 never heard thundercat (dumb name) do anything but this kind of funk r&b type stuff. Go listen to geddys baselines on their later stuff like counterparts. Its mostly all flamenco style hard rock basslines. He switched to the flamenco plucking bc he wanted to get more funky.

I honestly think macs talent was just being touched the years before his death. Id imagine ifbhe lived to just 60 he would have learned to play nearly every hip hop related instrument and honed his producer/lyrical side.. people like him would take rap/hiphop music go in a different direction than it is now...

The first 2 measures of that bass line sounds similar to a song I used to hear on the radio back in the 90s. I can't remember the title. The only thing I remember is that after the hook, there was a pause, and a trumpet solo would come in followed by the bass playing the first 2 measures of this bass lie. It's not the same, but it's similar.
