R.I.P. Ric Ocasek. Saw this tour at Lawlor Events Center in Reno, NV with my high school buddies. Wang Chung opened for the CARS, they were both great.
This was really Greg's masterpiece yet he is barely seen as usual. How he got all of those sounds out of those older model synths was remarkable. Ahead of it's time. Sequencing without real sequencers. Never forget seeing this live with the monitors moving with the music. A visual wall and a wall of sound.
@Tutoriais Why do people have to be so ugly? I am looking at my Roland Juno-1 and my Korg M3. I use them for different purposes but the M3 is much more versatile. The Juno is from the era of The Cars. I love the analog sounds but with the right patches I can reproduce them pretty well with the Korg. The sequencing capabilities don't compare because of advances in technology. Of course I played more advanced models in that era as well. Relax! It is just my opinion, you are of course entitled to your own opinion.
Oh heartbeat city here we come And happy days count on thumbs And nothin' really gets us down As long as Jacki's back in town I'm glad you made it I can't complain Oh Jacki (Jacki) What took you so long On just a holiday Oh Jacki (oh Jacki) What took you so long I thought you knew the way (Heartbeat city) The noise electric Never stops And all you need Is what you got And there's a place for everyone Under heartbeat city's golden sun Oh Jacki (What took you so long) What took you so long On just a holiday Oh Jacki (Jacki) (What took you so long) What took you so long I thought you knew the way Oh, yeah yeah yeah You know, I'm glad you made it I can't complain I missed you so badly When you jumped that train oh Jacki (What took you so long) What took you so long On just a holiday Oh Jacki (Jacki) (What took you so long) What took you so long (Thought you knew the way) I thought you blew away Oh heartbeat city Lights at night (Heartbeat city) Keeps getting closer Out of sight (Heartbeat city) Heartbeat city's on the loose (Heartbeat city) Better catch The blue caboose Oh, huh, heartbeat city It's my life (Heartbeat city)
I remember seeing them on this tour at Merriweather Post Pavillion in Maryland. I wish they would release this concert on DVD. If I remember correctly, I think Wang Chung was the opening act. Thanks for posting this!
I was at that show! My first true rock concert... They sounded great, but I remember they didn't interact with the audience much. I'd love to see that show again, though!
I really believed as a child growing up in the 60's listening to music and hear it progress thought that the future would hold a type of synthesized and electronic style with melody like this. It seems like in the early 80's bands were playing futuristic music. And the it all just disappeared . why cant some new generation of musicians incorporate elements of this style with maybe Kraftwerk and come up with something Modern and Advanced for the 21st century. Instead of the nonsense called music of the currrent day.
When Simon Moneybags Cowell and all the other shit-producers took over the industry, they ruined music along with it. It is all about money for the elite nowadays..I hate today's music, well, most of it. It's pathetic whinging, OR all about huge bottomed trashy girls ...
4:52 one of the only times Ric smiles on stage. Best Cars song...classic.
Paulina was right. When he smiled the sun really did come out. He had a great smile.
I'm on my way to check out 4:52, but saw just now Ric at 2:00 - "All you need is what you got." We love their music.
I am in love with this band! They were fantastic. Their sound just makes me feel alive! 80s Forever! Miss you, wonderful Benjamin Orr ❤️

He was as much a sound architect as Ocasek. Without him they would have been a different band!
👍❤
The older synths are better, what the hell you talking about.

Oh heartbeat city here we come
And happy days count on thumbs
And nothin' really gets us down
As long as Jacki's back in town
I'm glad you made it
I can't complain
Oh Jacki (Jacki)
What took you so long
On just a holiday
Oh Jacki (oh Jacki)
What took you so long
I thought you knew the way
(Heartbeat city)
The noise electric
Never stops
And all you need
Is what you got
And there's a place for everyone
Under heartbeat city's golden sun
Oh Jacki
(What took you so long)
What took you so long
On just a holiday
Oh Jacki (Jacki)
(What took you so long)
What took you so long
I thought you knew the way
Oh, yeah yeah yeah
You know, I'm glad you made it
I can't complain
I missed you so badly
When you jumped that train
oh Jacki
(What took you so long)
What took you so long
On just a holiday
Oh Jacki (Jacki)
(What took you so long)
What took you so long
(Thought you knew the way)
I thought you blew away
Oh heartbeat city
Lights at night
(Heartbeat city)
Keeps getting closer
Out of sight
(Heartbeat city)
Heartbeat city's on the loose
(Heartbeat city)
Better catch
The blue caboose
Oh, huh, heartbeat city
It's my life
(Heartbeat city)
PartMiniBus Fuck Yes
