This was one of the first train videos I watched on RUclips. I actually use to think, that this was in Decatur Alabama due to the crossings looking familiar to Moulton St. when I was 4 or 5
@mrke8ting An electric current runs through the rails. When the train nears the crossing, the wheels and axles of the train carry the current across the rails, and this is sensed by the crossing equipment and used to activate the lights and gates. Most crossings like this can sense the speed of the train and will activate sooner for fast trains or later for slow ones.
Actually, the trains come in to Freeport and switch, so we can here them on the radio like Godzilliasom said, but we also know the crews so we call them and ask them where their at sometimes.
well, maybe it´s time to upgrade the signals then! like here there are signals that tells the engineer if the gates are down or not, long before the train passes
@LSZocker2009 A lot depends on whether or not the cars are loaded or empty. Remember, a 100 car empty train weights around 3,000 tons. For two locomotives that isn't that much weight. (Of course a lot depends on locomotive type, grade, weather, etc....)
Where we are, they enforced a quiet zone on the CN line near our house, probably because of an increasing volume of trains over the years. The Metra-by-day-Wisconsin-Southern-by-night RR near our house isn't in the quiet zone yet, thank goodness.
There used to be a comment that said, “Hm should I watch this or paint dry?” And you were like, “Then why the hell did you click on this.” And that was back when comments actually had polls :)
WOW ! NOW THATS FREIGHT LOL ! and i mean some hang time at that crossing! lol.........love those bad boys ! im a midwest boy, so i'm used to these........but here in Connecticut ?! OH HELL NO! these people out here would have fits upon an IQ to put up with this ! i notice the way the rerouting of the tracks are done here to avoid traffic and RR crossings!........i dunno.......sort of like.......it should happen! ya know? cause ya just gotta have patience for the backbone of the country!
The crossing signals can always malfunction. While they are a very great thing, no system is perfect. And an engineer won't know that the crossing signals are malfunctioning until he's right upon the crossing...and he's close enough to see that either the gates aren't down, or the lights aren't flashing in the little "peep holes" on the sides of the flashing red lights. He/she can't tell before getting that close.
You could do the store and I just got a call me 😭😭 I think we are going back in the afternoon and get the heels together 😉 and get it done before I leave to go home to get it 😞 and I'll take a ride to the beach and get the heels together and get it done and I can go back and get a pill and a little more time and I feel like I'm not going well with my friend but I think we can do it done 👍 minutes later and then go back 🔙 days but I don't think
One of the first train videos I ever watched when I was 4 or 5. Now I'm 13 and it helps me remember my mom who passed away last year.

Oh, so the warning bells and flashing red lights isn´t enough!?
thanks for sharing!
actually, for some reason, the bell is designed to go off once the gates lower completely.
GREAT VIDEO!!!

I hear quiet zones are a safety issue.
I love the UP unit.
Oh my where was this video I've been looking for it for more than 6 years!

thumbs up if you had your speakers on full blast and didnt expect the train to blow that horn.
