Loved my xsara Picasso, bought for £100...it lasted 8 yrs 6 months.... Trouble free motoring (1.6 hdi diesel).. 232 thousand miles on clock when it was scrapped (bodywork) 😢... If I could have bought that same car new now... I would.... Best car ever....
I've noticed that this video was presented by Potty-Mouth Geoff, who seems to have been replaced by Church-Going Family-Man Geoff in all the more recent videos? But to be completely honest, I think I like Potty-Mouth Geoff slightly better...
To know what side the fuel filler cap is LOOK at the fuel gauge and you will see a small triangle as the side of the petrol pump symbol whatever way that triangle point mean the fuel filler is that side
I had a 2 litre one of them as a taxi a long time ago, it was a work horse,it went on for ever and I ended up liking it,and this is from a man who now drives a BMW 6 series and a mx5 as a fun car
Well, being honest, your previous old Geoff video i couldn't watch again as I'd watched too many times already, but I've not watched thus one, so I am watching it and enjoying it! Cheers Geoff.
Had a 2001 Xsara Picasso 1.6 SX with electric panoramic sunroof. Bought in 2019 and put on a Gates cambelt kit and w/pump and 4 decent tyres. Did 62k miles as a daily driver and taking 2 adults and 2 teams all around the country - loaded with suitcases and paddle board. Passed MOT every year with mega low emissions. Take the rear seats out and it was a van with a flat floor for tip runs and moving furniture... Part exed in 2024 for a Honda. Citroen still seen driving around the area. Amazing low-cost load luggers.
You're making me nostalgic again. I did something similar with a Citroen ZX 1.9 diesel that I bought for approx. £700 off eBay. Just wanted a diesel engine because fuel costs were going up. I had 6 years of lovely, trouble-free motoring from it. I know what you mean about the suspension in Citroens, but I loved it; like riding around in a comfy armchair. I never liked the look of the Xsara Picasso but now you're making me interested. You can't beat a car that drives well when it costs less than a few tanks of fuel!
I had one of these as a hire car a few years back. The combination of wallowy handling, big rattly windows and non-functioning air-con made it seem like I was driving a greenhouse. I think I am right in saying that the "Desire" version didn't actually come with rear seats. The whole point was that you and your partner could lie down in the back to actually *exercise* your desire!
My Step Dad sold his 3.0 Senator and brought one of those when they drove off to live in Spain 15yrs ago. They still have it, Its toured Europe as they are retired. Never let them down mechanically, electrics needed a look at and the heater radiator ruined the carpets. But thats about it. Ugly but does alot well.
I had one of those old 3.0 Senators. It was a cruising dream, with a surprising amount of poke. It’s quite the change to a Picasso, but I imagine he didn’t miss the fuel consumption. Luckily I had a company fuel card back then.
Had one of these from brand new in 2003, had it for about 8 years. It was a great car to be fair bar someone nicking the spare wheel after 6 months and me going into the Citroen dealership and kicking off in the showroom after being told a security bolt to stop the wheel being stolen was an optional extra. Seems sales staff don't like being called fuckwits 😂😂. By the end though it felt like a clown car with bits falling off.
Bought a 2ltr HDI in 2017 for £50 and spent £150 getting through MOT and its still running great 7yrs later. Cambelt and clutch done at 100k now at 180k. Usual French electrical niggles but engine bullet proof. Not sure about the petrols.
Had same from new 2003, kept it for nineteen years only had one new exhaust, four tyres, timing belt (age of) and a battery after thirteen years, only got rid of it with fifty one weeks mot left because of a little twat in London and it still passed two more mot's after selling it. Best allrounder car I ever had.
I drive an 06 1.6 hdi xsara picasso and i love it, its about to die (turbo etc) and when it does I'll miss it, like driving in a comfy armchair but i get what you mean about the handling, a bit like a boat, but once you're used to it its so comfy 💯
Geoff the little arrow either side of the fuel guage usually tells you which side the filler cap is on without having to get out and look. I live in Norn Iron if we don't have to get out in the rain it's a bonus.
I was driving for years before my wife who doesn't drive told me, if I look at the fuel gauge there is a little arrow which points to the side of the car where the fuel cap is on. Brilliant. Try it Geoff 😊
A MODERN CLASSIC I TELL YOU!😅 They where fabulous family cars. We had blue 2litre diesel one for 10 years . Paid 6 grand second hand with 59,000 miles. We towed a 4 berth caravan all over the country with two kids and a dog ..and a pile ofshite in the roof. It was without doubt the best car with the least amount of problems (apart the usal stuff you'd expect from a French car😂).
😂Jeff I'm from South Africa and before I got here 2years ago my wife needed a vehicle as she was doing caring before I got here, so I told her to just buy a cheapie so long and she bought a 05 with 120,000 on the clock for £900 (not a car I would have bought in a million years) now using it for almost 3 years without any problems, I'm pleasantly surprised with it, will drive it into the ground then only buy a new car as I'm quite attached to it now😅...and...it DOES have arm rests and back seats.😂
I had a Picasso as a cheap run about and it actually was a good car for what it was, van with seats. It’s not a looker or doesn’t compare to my current car a Rangy. But it did everything well and never let me down handy in most respects. But I’m very happy with my l405 witch touch wood has been reliable but don’t skimp on her.
ARGGH!! i got an 03 plate berlingo "desire" 18 months ago for exactly its - french diesel old motor tractor - chic. 1 previous owner! who was caravaner. gear box was dodgy in 3rd or rapid acceleration, but worked around that and it's decaying structure until last July when spent 800 bucks on gearbox+ . . fekn rear axle and rear nearside collapsed 2 weeks back, not worth fixing, body. ochone. £140 scrapped, no takers on spares. . i know what you mean about that (old?) citroen wobble/ripple . . the rear axle, lol. I enjoyed that motor, drove old world fine. just done. Hope the engine goes forward defying entropy, ha ; ) They all cost 1000 bucks these days!!
One of my vehicles is one of these. 2.0 hdi. Owned it seven 1/2 years and it’s the horrible colour you hate 🤣. Only issues have been service items, sills, and the rear torsion bar broke recently. Reconditioned axle fitted and it’s on the road again 👍
@geoff you know if you look at the fuel gauge there is an arrow that shows you what side fuel cap is I didn’t until recently but I’ve only driven for 21 years…..
For new subscribers, like me, these “oldies but goldies” are a great way to catch up with some of your work in previous years. Given the channel’s admirable scepticism around the enforced uptake of BEV’s ( I emphasise “enforced” as like a lot of people I can see that BEVs have a place in a mix of vehicles going forward) I wonder if you’d seen that Tesla are offering unsupervised test drives for their vehicles. However, they can only do this because they can “switch off” your car at any point. SWITCH OFF your car! All BEV’s will be monitored in the same way. Potentially you could be stopped going further than your county borders. I’m sure it won’t come to that, but who knows?
This car is from the era when Citroen built some of the most ugliest car built. My friend used to have one of these, and all I can remember was that he ended up scraping it along our garden wall. This is a man who has driven all over parts of Africa and the UAE. Oh how we laughed… I think the C5 estate was even worse, my brother used to have one, and as it passed us one the M25 my wife said that is an ugly car! Why did he get rid of his CX? At least that was a beautiful car, oh that's right, he declared himself bankrupt back 2005/2006!
Fukinhilarious..ive had 3 as we had 3 ,ids..2.0d sx is a great motor.. me nmissus camped in cornwall in one..(skint)😂😂 almost van size, .loads of storage, loads uf fun wet weather understeer....an to be fair, ive never been twat enough to lock meself in the boot of a car😂😂🎉 Fuk all build quality though... A steering wheel with no buttons 😮 What a brilliant idea 💡 why didn't no one think of that? Them designer's don't no crap. Geoff. You should promote that. It could catch on😂
Geoff, have you considered the early Vw sharan/alhambra/galaxy ? 1.9 -2.0 pd or 1.8 20v ? I suspect it’s off everyone’s radar as a useful / reliable motor 🤔
This was cheap even when bought new, a bargain second hand. Plenty of room, rock solid engine all else being a little crappy. Honest car for a different time.
I've never seen or heard of one of these, but it doesn't look like the worst car in the world to me! For that price, I'd buy one (if they existed here in the US). Compared to the Smart Car, I would say it's fantastic. Hell, as long as it has a petrol engine and a manual transmission, I would place it ahead of any EV in the world.
You GIT, you just cost me money! I've just bought an E61 525d Touring after seing your video about delivering one! I'm picking it up tomorrow! As for the worst car in the world, IMHO that's the Morris Marina. I've driven around Fuertaventura a Xsara Pic and aside from no steering feel it was OK. The Marina was just sh1t in every department (oh, I'm 58 and been driving > 40 years!)

It's funny that you call this a "throw-away car", just like MacMaster's $100,000 Taycan. I'd take the Citroen every time. Wouldn't everyone?
Yes I would
Yes, I had a 1.8 it was a really great car, very practical.
As a non-fireproof human, I agree
I had an 2 litres aut. Useful but not fun.
Yep 👍🏽

Exactly. We had one for 10 years. Did about 100,000 miles of trouble free joy.
My neighbour called it 'the tractor' 😂😂😂
French cars have hair under the wheel-arches.

Mine was black and burgundy red and that light blue and I had them for taxis amazing fuel efficiency
I love the idea of a car I can buy with just one visit to the cash point. I’ve lost more than that on a boozy night out!
That Picasso is perfect for a Geoff goes camping trip😁.
That mouldy seat belt is like cherry on top 😏🤌

Unfortunately Citroen lost their way after the DS19, the rest is history.
I don't agree. Actually Citröen are on their way to a nice comeback. Because they reduced prices and started to build cars for people again.

I had one blue Xsara Picasso executive about 15 years ago GL06 JFF it was a diesel.
We had a Blue Picasso... PK04 JGY... so perhaps off the same line as this one :) Great car!
Done 200k , can't have been that bad . Some modern cars blow up after a fortnight 😃
I'm quite sure the towbar was for mounting a bicycle rack. It's the only explanation.

Hi Geoff. Did you know that most cars thease says have a little arrow on the fuel gauge to tell you which side the filler cap is on?
If you don't like it, get some seats to put in the back and ask HubNut if he would like it. A bit prettier than a Berlingo!
Id have one of those over any new crossover
Geoff I got S98JGF may be good for one of your 850s

I tell you what's worse Geoff these old bloody videos. Sorry to be brutal.
The Picasso was pig ugly but for £300 it's bangernomics and motoring at it's most affordable.
