Carbohydancer Hello, after reading the lyrics, I believe we can safely say that this song is about people who leave their native land for the USA in search of a life that is free of poverty, despair, fear and yet... whose life does not always go the way they hope it will. It tells the story of those who look at this country the way children look through a window at a shop full of candy and think "If only I could reach inside... be inside..." If you have never longed for something that you could not even name, then it will be hard to understand what propels people of all colors, religions, regions and backgrounds to just up and leave the only world they know... As a first-generation emigrant, I wish I could have written the lyrics to this song to explain the meaning of my life. I hope you have gleaned a little bit from this answer. :-) Best of luck to you!
