Thanks for the video. I had a similar problem. The handle on the outside was different and I could use a credit card in the gap to force the handle back so that I can open the door. Your video gave me confidence to strip it all down clean and then lubricate. Works great again now. Much appreciated.
The big foundation of the problems, is possibly the worn-out plastic Bushes or sleeves on the Hinges Shaft, my friends one almost has no plastic remaining, was a similar thie on Fkrd doors in the 1980's n 90's models, the door handle would break regularly, although the cause "The Hinges Bushes worn out or totally gone"!!
Make sure that you also clean and lubricate (with a non sticky lubricant) the latch (on the side of the door). It is prone to filling with dust and jamming the door closed too.
How is it going? Did it fix the issue. I just replaced the lock actuator on my dads prado and it’s still doing this. Everything else looks fine and lock come with all the cables so I’ll have to removed door and again
Also try = Lift the weight of the tailgate and it might open , as the sagging hinge door is now heavy on the lock, and missaligning. The spare wheel on a very large tailgate door is a common problem across several vehicles.
Thanks for useful video. Had the same problem, but instead of releasing the door from the inside I found I could, with a piece of bent wire inserted under the trim above the licence plate (from outside), hook the handle forwards. Once that was done, the door opened as normal. But will have to do the cleanup as per video.
Thanks for that, really helpful. Im tempted to get a hole saw and make a porthole in the plastic near where the straps are. My only concern then would be dust into the cabin. Thanks again 👍👍
Thanks for this, I have same Problem on my 120 Prado, good to know you can pull the trim off with the door closed. when you say dry lube is that graphite spray ? Thanks from Czech Republic.

Too much stuff in the way to get to what you need to work on. Sounds like what happens to me all the time. Not to complicated of a process to fix. Maybe you had a piece of gold dust or fish bone caught in the latch mechanism! LOL. Thanks for sharing.
They are.. been happy with mime. Might get something I can leave open when out and about next time. Like a use with trade back.. Waiting to see what the Grenadier is like.

I bought some dry lube cleaded and dry lubed the lot. I has used WD40 before, and maybe this attracted the dust and crap, and caused this??
@@jjsadv I think any moving parts that are lubricated with a grease or oil will eventually get clogged by dust and dirt when they are not sealed.

Thanks for posting. Just purchased a 2019 GX and this is something for me to watch out for
Cheers
Pop off the trim. Blow it out and a bit of dry lube and you will probably never have an issue.

I would suggest preemptively pulling the skin off and giving it a clean and spraying around some dry lube..
Mine did that too a while back but i cant crawl in the back, i ended up flooding it with water and it freed up enough to open thankfully.
I flooded mine with WD40, and silicon lube, then drove on gravel roads for 4 hours.. but it wouldn't come loose.. Lucky I could easily get to it..
Thanks for this, I have same
