If this question is asked for a desirable/competitive position , the point is to determine if the candidate put any effort into learning specifically about that company and its goals. It may be one of several factors that the interviewer considers about the character of the candidate. This is meant to show what you can do , not what’s in it for you. That said, this type of question is silly to ask at McDonald’s or similar as I don’t imagine anyone sees those places as their dream job.
As someone who hires regularly, this question is often more common in corporate settings. Why do you want to work for our company, with our team, and be committed to our mission. There are other jobs out there, so tell me why this is one you picked to apply and interview for. If it seems like someone hasn't really thought it out or really doesn't care at all, like literally they don't care what job they have and just want a paycheck, those people do not get hired.
u do trucking? I have a few questions if u don’t mind answering trying to find my own career feeling unfulfilled at 24. So how do u like it do u ever get real nervous on the road before loads how did u get into it?
It’s a good career, I like it. You’ll make a decent living depending on the particular trucking job. I don’t get nervous. Once you get used to driving the truck you won’t be nervous at all. I got with a company that paid for my CDL but I had to work there for a year
The question is not “why do you want to work?”, it’s “why do you want to work HERE?” Most jobs aren’t so unique that a prospective employee couldn’t find a similar offer somewhere else. So the question is about why you are interested in this particular opportunity and not one of the other ones out there.
Lol you just apply to different companies cuz noone really applies to one specific company since the chances of a rejection are statistically higher than your chances to get a job. So here you're just doing the quantitative approach while applying to jobs. Why that particular company? You've picked me and invited to an interview, that's why I "want" to work here. Simple as that.
Most (if not all) interview questions are silly/pointless--especially this one! Maybe the company's trolling when it asks that question. And even if you're passionate about a job you need to get paid for it as life isn't free.
I think you’re thinking about this question the wrong way. Interviewers know why you’re there, what they’re really looking for is what the candidate can deliver, why they’re a good fit, and if they have the social skills to respond under pressure. A good response shouldn’t be cliche or generic. A good interview should feel like a dialogue, not a Q&A
Why do you WANT to work here vs Why do you NEED to work here. It sounds like you're asking one question but answering a different question There are some companies that I would like to work for. No catty office politics, good company to work for. Those are things that really make a difference. And once you dont have those things, work can become.... WORK. If you find a job that has a good work atmosphere and they treat ppl right, dont take it for granted. I've been at jobs that gossip about employees, hire family members, and only offer OT to select ppl they choose (which was against the union contract) Companies think big of themselves too. They want to know that you want them. I wouldnt discount the question though. Once, youve worked at a place you dont like, vs a place you do- you'll get it.
Id go as far to say they need to work bcs they need money. They want is usually due to job requirements, rate of pay, distance from home, job responsibilities.... I think the words want and need are being confused
I don’t think it’s a relevant question to ask in a job that pays less than 50$ an hour and after that price point the question should be why should I hire you and not one of the 1000 other people that applied for this one job.A job is something nobody would do unless your getting paid to do it so a job isn’t really what you want for your final form. I think a job is what you do to pay for the things you really want to do and have the life you imagined when you made the plan for your life and if you haven’t made a plan or a vision of the life you want you won’t ever get it but once the vision is made and the meaningful goals are set the world will rearrange what attracts your attention and you then start to see only the things that help you to achieve those goals or things that don’t and every other stress or drama fades into background . I don’t know why it works I just know it dose 😊
Because I want money so I can live duhhh
Right lol

When I used to do interviews for my last job I would never ask this question because what you said it’s very obvious!
Lol I don’t blame you. I’m not sure why they still ask that in interviews
I’ve never been in a position where the job was an option or a choice. It’s always been “I need this job or I have no job”

See that’s why I’d never get hired at any corporate job lol
@@asmrwellrest you probably wouldn't want it to be honest lol. most corporate jobs suck.

Yes we have to get paid at the end of the day

Oh yes that is true but most people before anything want to work somewhere because they need the money

I agree. We the money from working to fund what we actually want to do
