I used this video series to set the reveal and attach coping to our quarter pipe. Solid instruction, easy to follow. Thanks for making this set of videos, really helpful!
Great advice. I was going with screwing the coping in, until I saw this video. I switched to J-bolts and it made installing the coping so easy. Thank you!!
Good stuff. This was perfect timing. Waiting for the rain to stop out here in Copenhagen so I can finally put my coping on. Noob question, in the video that quarter wasn't plyed yet, but I assume you would first ply the ramp then set the coping in or does it matter even?
easy one. unfasten the coping and set a shim behind the pipe of whatever thickness necessary to get your desired reveal. re-tighten the coping down and get some grinds!
@@gatorskinsskateboardsurfac5345 Hey, thanks so much for your videos! Very clear and great explanations! Any chance there will be an update on the process of putting the ply on any time soon? I'm about to do just that at my backyard mini ramps.
One last question. Any tips for mounting pool coping? All I've seen so far is some industrial adhesive on the platform gluing it down. But is there a better way?
back in the day, we used to use Liquid Nails but blocks would pop off the deck periodically. I've heard that polyurethane glue holds fast but i haven't actually used it. there is a very knowledgeable guy here in Phoenix that swears by mastic. let me ask him which brand he recommends and i'll get back to you on this...
I think mastic might work in Phoenix or inside but you wouldn't want it on anything that was going to get wet. I've really only seen various construction adhesives used (liquid nails, gorilla glue, etc.) Once set nicely with the deck and grouted, it's not particularly vulnerable to any force except upward and it shouldn't be receiving much of that. Worst case, you glue it down again.
J hooks are genius. Best method I've seen to attach the coping.
Thanks for this.
Damn this is fantastic. Making a ramp myself and needed help, perfect.
Great video. I would add a lock washer to that J bolt on the nut side. That would eliminate any chance of backing off over time and use.
I was thinking the same thing. Building my ramp now, lock washers are cheap and add a ton of reliability to the ramp.
thankyou mate! awesome. im builin one for my daughter and didnt know how to do the coping so really appreciate. awesome
Fantastic video. Best part is you showed your mistake and showed how to fix it. Real word. Real people . Real Surface. Real results. Good work!
Aye, thanks Rick!

Dang it...!!.. why couldn't I find this earlier.. F... well great video.. tear down time..
Followed your directions and the coping set perfectly and works great!!
I would definetly recommend a lock washer or nylock nut or lock tight to prevent loosening over time.
you would be correct sir. i definitely overlooked that detail. good catch
I used your videos as well on my build and it turned out great! Thanks for sharing these techniques with us!
Thanks for these detailed videos, much better than most of the "how to" videos and I much prefer this method with the J bolts, makes much more sense.
You are a natural for educating. You could do videos for teaching anything and be effective.
best compliment i could ever hope to receive man. thanks so much.

Perfect video!! Thanks for the great, clear instruction
Wow! J Bolt for the win!!!!!! I’ve never seen one before but this is what I’ll be doing.
Lock washer or aviation nut might be an idea. Good vid!
Love the series, so helpful! Thanks!!!
This is just what I needed. Thank you!
Smart way to avoid holes on the showing side
just made a mini ramp in my back garden! wish seen this idea first one side is drilled other side ent done yet... might try this...
Yeah! Way to represent Earthless! And 6 years ago too!
First time seeing the j bolt method, genius
Good Video. Even better with the Earthless shirt.
;)
You should do a series of playlists that explain how to make a variety of skate sections including bowls
that's a good idea. i'm going to organize these videos into a logical order in the near future. appreciate the suggestion and stay tuned!
best build video.
Thanks! This was perfect! Doing it tomorrow.
grateful for the videos!
you are totally welcome my dude.

3years late but I do believe it is best to do the coping first (at least that’s what I have done).
hi witch size is recommended for the pipe? TY in advace! great video
Miniramp 2' and 1/2, what radius you would recommend?
this works SO well
"I was screwing around with a fractional formula..." Or, you could just use mm, K.I.S.S.
haha, man the imperial measurement system is a major PITA in these instances for sure
How long are your J bolts? McMaster Carr has them at 8"-14" in 2" increments
He says 5"
Thanks , is the reveal the same on the deck?
yep 3/8" on both
Any tips for how to fix a coping that has seemed to sink into the ramp? I’d like it to stick out a little more than it is currently

did you delete the video of how to put the surface layer on? I need to see that video again!
yeah man, methods have changed since then and we no longer recommend the process in the video. Update is in the works.

@@MK-vy2ds i'll second that
thank you thank you thank you!!!
Totally welcome homie.
Would a 5/16 J bolt hold the coping well enough?
I’ve literally just done this and it seems to be holding perfectly fine.
yep, no problem

you are welcome!
best way!!
no doubt! having holes in the top of the coping is lame and unnecessary.
0:20 dude really said “today we’re gonna take the pipe”
Hate to be that guy. use a Tek screw through a pre drilled guide hole. Much easier and never comes undone.
