My Beloved bought this machine for my birthday in February this year from Joann's. I love it! I have been too sorry to watch the instructional dvd yet, so your video has helped me. Moby Prick (my machine's name...long story) and I have made over five hundred facemasks, five aprons from mattress ticking fabrics, four dresses, twenty potholders, four "zap-sacks" for the microwave, stitched together one braided rag rug and made one pair of ladies knickers so far. Even sewing through six layers of mattress ticking, if using the correct needles, I have had no problems. The only issue that I have had is that one of the prongs on the large table broke off, but it still works fine, if a wee bit wonky. Now, I am ready to make a quilt from all of my scraps and extra fabric. Thank you for the wonderful video!
Thank you for this review. I really liked being able to see the machine in action & the stitches that you showed. A perfect presentation for what I want to know!
Thank you for great informative tutorial . Buying one on sale in Australia to complement my heavy duty Singer Cosplay. I'm actually waiting for delivery of this machine. I ordered it just a few days ago. I've been sewing on a older Singer model which I've had for years. This is such a great intro video. Thanks!
Thank you for this review. I just received one for Christmas yesterday. I was able to download the manual as the one I got with the machine was in 3 non English directions. This video was very helpful.
Fast forward to April 2023, I bought this machine today for $249 on sale at Joanns. Also know, they will tell you when you check out that if you have a problem they will not take it back at Joanns, you will have to go to Singer if the box is opened. Crossing my fingers that I don’t have any issues! Thanks for the video
This is in general a nice machine for sewing lightweight fabrics. Its buttonholer will do 3 styles of buttonholes, which many more expensive machines do not do. So...I also bought one for my granddaughter as her first machine. I have a few quibbles: the light is not directed downward and I need bright task light, so...I bought a headlamp to wear (!) as well as a new lamp to try to direct around my hands and work. How is this for irony: I can't see well enough to figure out how to use the needle threader even though I've looked for videos on RUclips and looked at the incomprehensible picture instructions. So I use a high power flashlight to thread the needle. These minor details slow me down to such an extent that it's maddening. I do not like having to use a screwdriver to change the needle. My previous machines had textured edges on the needle screw so it could be removed by hand. Easy peasy. Now the new machines have us faffing about with finding the screwdriver, fitting it into the flat head, undoing it, installing the needle, which needs changed rather often, depending upon fabric and thread type, and then finding the screwdriver, A-GAIN, twirly, twirly. Point is, all this never slowed me down before. Now it raises my blood pressure and lowers my pleasure in sewing, making me dread it a little, so I do less. I sometimes wonder if womens' tools are engineered carelessly because they can be. Men would tear these up in 45 minutes and we nurse them along and underperform for ages. Meh. PS This rant is somewhat general, not just about this machine. I did like it better than other machines in its price range, but still think the manufacturers could do better by us.
I have this machine and it’s good for a beginner but for an intermediate sewer you need a stronger machine. I find that it does not handle bulk well at all which is surprising since it s touted for quilters. Also when sewing closer to edge of fabric , the fabric sinks down and will not feed , especially on lightweight fabric. The biggest issue is stitch. I just hate that it is not consistent with its stitches and you cannot adjust bobbin tension. There are days it does great and all of a sudden the tension goes wonky. Lol. This is not great for heavy duty material, Which she stated but even double layers of cotton and interfacing can be an issue. Like top stitching totes. The good..... variety of stitches. Digital adjustment , attachments and ease of use.
I'll get this machine tomorrow. I am a beginner so I am curious to see if I am capsble to make nice Objects. I liked your video very much and give the comfort that I made the right choice.
Hi Ingrid, How are you doing with the machine? I wish that this COVID-19 was over because I need to take some in-person sewing classes. I'm a beginner, too. I watched RUclips sewing videos for 2 months before sewing anything. I bought a McCall "Kwik Sew" "Learn to Sew" pattern for sewing pillowcases and pillows. So far, I've sewed 4 pillowcases. I'm still learning to sew. After two or three pillowcases, I realized that I need to switch from the All Purpose Presser Foot to the Overcast Presser Foot when I finish the seam by zigzagging the edge. Everyone is getting pillowcases for gifts this December! LOL.
I purchased this machine last week also at Joann's. I am getting familiar with with the features. Thank you for a helpful tutorial. As a former quilter, returning to sewing after many years by making masks has been unexpected and interesting. The machine I was using was quite unreliable and I am excited about the Singer Patchwork!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I am a new quilter and I have always wanted to do a Dresden plate so your knowledge and information on quilt .
I just purchased this machine last week from my local Joann's. I paid $249.99 + tax of $20.00 = $269.99. I am just unboxing it now and plan to use it tomorrow. I am retiring a 40+ year old Singer that is recently giving my problems. I hope that i will like using it. I wanted something that did basic stuff and I'm not a quilter nor am I going to do triple layer of heavy fabrics. I enjoy your telling about it and going over your pros & cons and what you like and don't. I don't know if I have an automatic needle threader I hope that I have. One thing the sales lady told me is if I want to let the machine operate automatically I was to disconnect the foot peddle. Once thing I wasn't to happy about that it didn't have the basic owners manual. I guess like everything there are pros and cons and stuff we like and don't like. Thanks for doing more explaining.
I don't know why they aren't including operators manuals with the machines now. Mine came with one. You can download a free PDF manual from singer.com.
@@sunrisequiltstudio Actually the lady in the Sewing Center of Joann's printed me out a manual it's in 2 other languages besides English. I will have to go through and separate the pages. But inside the box there wasn't an owner's manual like came with 2 other machines I got from Singer. Could demonstrate the threading of the needle using the needle threader? I saw on video and the lady had her hand in the way and you couldn't see it very well. This needle threader on the this new machine is very new to me and i know once I get the hang of it I'll love it. I am vision impaired so having a needle threader will be a help. I am not a quilter but do some pretty basic sewing. but it will serve my purpose. I am retiring a 40+ year old singer machine. it'wanted
Thank you! I just purchased my machine yesterday yay! I really appreciate your video as it made me feel a lot more secure I almost panicked when I thought I had the wrong presser foot trying to do a fancy stitch LOL your video saved me a lot of time thank you so much God bless
I'm glad you said something about the "screwdriver". I had no idea that was in there. I was just using a butter knife because I didn't have a flathead that would fit in there to take the plate off. I've had a lot of jams in this machine and some of them were bad enough where I had to remove the plate to fix it. Now I know about this tool. Thanks!
The "screwdriver" annoyed me bc I can't see the screw while trying to turn it so I bought a small set in the notions department. I don't know why the companies cheap out in this way. 🙄 Other than that, I like this machine for sewing lightweight garments.
Hi Susan, I bought a Brother at Walmart 5 years ago for the same price and a very similar machine and it has the same kind of quarter inch foot. I use a stiletto to guide the seam through so it doesn’t catch and flip back. I like the extended base plate on your Singer better and the Brother doesn’t have the vertical spool holder but not a problem for me. Thanks for the extensive review.
Thanks for sharing all this great info. Great job and it comes at a great time - just ordered one and trying to get a feel for what all the functions are. I learned to sew as a 6th grader back in the 60's and got some great cross training in the Navy in the Kitty Hawks' Paraloft shop where they sew all manner of items for pilots and crew members, so nice to get back into it! Thanks agian!
I have 3 working sewing machines.. 2 Kenmores for my heavy duty sewing like when I am attaching fabric to denim like a half denim half cotton skirt..then I use my XR3340 for everything else..
When I first had the Singer Patchwork I did every number in order from the first pattern and kept it for future reference. I did the stitches 1 to 10 then left a space before 11 to 20 etc. At 79 years I do find threading could be easier .My Toyota that is over 30 years is much better for me.
It depends on why the needle is stuck. If it is from a thread tangle, try cutting the thread with a small pair of scissors or your seam ripper. You can also try removing the needle from the machine by loosening the screw that holds the needle in the needle bar. That should allow you to raise the needle bar and remove the needle. Then you need to figure out why the needle is stuck in the down position.
I have a brand new Singer Patchwork machine opened it last night. I start with Stitch 29 and I like it. I got partially done and changed out my bobbin. When I set stitch 29 again I got crazy stitch on top and the 29 stitch from the bobbin. What have I done wrongs
You might try taking the bobbin out and then put it back in again. Make sure you have it turned so that the bobbin spins counter clockwise when you pull the thread. Also make sure you have the bobbin thread threaded through the notch in the bobbin casing.
Thank you for a great tutorial. I just got this machine on same deal as you. I wish it had a book instead of couple sheets of paper . You have helped me so much. I have 23 blocks of 25 bordered for. T-shirt quilt for my great niece . Needed a better machine that would not need me spending an hour to get tension & etc correct are every project daily. Been a good one as Kemore & 40 yrs old. So thank you again!
Thanks for all your great videos! I have a question since I recently changed from a Singer Start to this machine. It is a new world and I am very satisfied with it, but I am missing one option I had on my Singer Start: when straight stiching, I could lengthen the distance between each stitch, which made the stiches look more "hand sewn". I have not found this option on my Singer Patchwork, is it me or is this not possible? Thanks in advance from Norway 😀
You can lengthen the overall stitch length by pressing the up arrow on the circle dial on the stitch panel on the right. To make shorter stitches you press the down arrow. Ither than that I don't know of any other adjustment you can make.
@@sunrisequiltstudio Thanks for your answer :) I guess there is no such option as to lengthen the distance between the stitches on this machine, then. A bit disappointing on that part, but still a great machine :)
I having a really tough time with the button hole function. I can sometimes get one button hole done (94 setting with button hole foot and everything ready to go). The next one on the same garment is a bust, every time! The machine just seems to jam up and made a mess. I'm ruining my work. Not sure what to do about this. When I use the same practice material, no problems!
Thank you for the instructional video, I have had a Singer Brilliance 6180 since 2017 and quite happy with it. It has very similar features though I really miss the needle up/down and feed-dog dropping functions as I use it all the time on my Janome. I was curious to know how many Watts the motor has. Please could you specify if it's total (it would include the 15W for the light) or not. Thank you.
thank you so much. I'm trying at 78 yrs. To teach an old dawg new tricks. Really harder than I thought!!! I had an 70's Kenmore sewing machine which I truly loved. The thread dog lifter got broke off during our move. Simply cannot find replacement. This new SINGER PATCHWORK MACHINE DID NOT COME WITH A MANUEL.! TERRIBLE IDEA ON SOMEONE'S PART! GOOD DAY, MYRA
Thank you for a great review. I bought this machine in February 2020 and I love it. I’ve made 3 quilts so far! I have one question: how can I use this to quilt my quilt-sandwich? I’ve used straight-line stitching for all my quilts, but I’d like to use some of the preprogrammed stitching for the quilt sandwich. Ive also tried to do free-motion, but I cannot get my tempo right so my stitching tension is off. Can you demonstrate for me, 1)quilting with a preprogrammed stitch and 2) free-motion quilting? If you can’t video it, can you offer any advice?
Hi. Thank you for the overview. I just purchased this machine. Can you tell me what stitch you would use to edge material so it doesn't unravel? I'm trying to avoid doing a double fold over. Ty
The best thing to do would be to test settings on a scrap piece of fabric that you are using. Adjust the settings until you get the look you want. Each machine is different so it's difficult to say exactly what settings are best. The type of fabric will also make a difference. You want the zig to take a tiny bit into the fabric so that the stitches are barely noticeable.
Thank you for your great presentation , it is very helpful. Can I ask you a question , this machine can be used with twin needles ? usually when i use twin needles with other Singer machine the thread was stuck in and cut off many times even through it said compatible using twin needles Is this machine Ok with twin needles ? Thank you very much
Thank you for the demonstration. I have one and notice sometimes you drop the needle when starting. Mine will stop sewing and sounds like it is winding up and then it goes to C4 and I wait for it to go back to the stitch setting I was using. I am making hearts that are using the stitches. Wondering I am using interfacing and then use a light weight flannel. You mentioned not good on heavy material and I am not but stop and starts sometimes. I love the machine but wondering if I am doing something wrong with starting and stopping and winding noise it makes. I use 55J bobbins and wondering about needle also what size do you use??? I found this machine on side of road for free and was so excited couldn't stand myself. Please if you have time I would love to hear from you......Thanks again for your time.
I'm not sure what the C4 code means, but double check that you have the bobbin in correctly. You need a class 15J. You could also rethread the needle and check to be certain that the foot pedal is plugged in securely. As for needles, I typically use a size 80/12 & will go to a heavier needle when sewing thicker fabric like denim or lots of layers of cotton.
@@sunrisequiltstudio I will check the foot peddle again. I do use 14 needle most of time. The C4 says something about bobbin and use 55J, just earlier took apart to see if any build up and was good. Use safety pin sideways to unscrew the screws; worked. I ask about you not always dropping the needle into material before sewing also?? Thought you had to drop needle in before starting to sew??? Thank you also for quick reply. I wonder why some machines come with booklet and others don't.
@@nikkimcdowell4406 Dropping the needle before sewing helps keep the threads from knotting up. I don't usually do it just because it is an extra step and takes time. However, I have to hold the threads to keep them from pulling through and knotting up, so I don't guess it really saves me much time! I don't know why some machines come with manuals but others don't. I guess Singer stopped printing them to save money.
@@sunrisequiltstudio Thank you again for you reply. I think I figured it out....I found this machine in a box on side of road for free. Can you believe it I was doing the happy dance......There was only one foot on it I believe for straight stitches. And the one you are using is the grooved clear one. So I need to purchase one to stop the machine from stopping and starting. I believe it was getting bunched up and then it would read C4; bobbin. So I am excited and will continue with the sewing of hearts I am making. I feel truly blessed by my find. You are great with explaining and again cannot thank you enough for your compassion for my Son......Have a great day and all the blessings you share with us.
This is such a fantastic video. I’m practically sold on getting it today. Can I ask if you have enough room for quilting the tops of quilts? I think everything about this machine looks amazing but I’m disappointed that there isn’t a bigger space under the arm of the machine to roll up a quilt....
I haven't tried quilting on this machine, but I think it would be difficult to quilt anything larger than a lap-sized quilt on the machine because the harp space is small. However, I know people do it all the time on other machines that have similar space.
I have a question I'm a total rookie and I just started a quilt I've been I guess pushing buttons if you will and I've discovered that some how I've reversed the stitch from the top to the bottom I hope this makes sense to you its like stitch 62 the opposite side I'm sewing on is the detailed tulip in stead of it showing on top. If you are understanding my half witted discript of my problem what did I push to make it backwards ? Like I said in new to this and its driving me crazy because I have no instructions just Utube. And you. THSNK YOU so much I'm anxiously waiting for your response.
I don't know if I am understanding what you mean, but there are several designs that are mirror imaged on the panel. Stitch 70 has the tulips facing the right, and stitch 71 has the tulips facing the left. I don't think you can flip them by pushing any other buttons. You can make them narrower or longer by adjusting the stitch length and width by using the 4 arrows in the round dial just above the stitch panel, but you can't adjust them any other way as far as I know.
Thank you for this in depth review! Do you think it would be a good machine for garment making and occasional denim hems? My current machine is a very cheap and old machine and i break a few needles each time i hem a pair of jeans. There is always that one part on each leg where the denim is thick and i'm trying to find a machine that could handle that but also be great for any garment making.
The machine handles garment sewing just fine, but I don't know how it will handle the thick denim seams. I haven't tried that. If you do try sewing through the layered denim seams, try using a "Jean a ma jig", and a denim needle.
Other than wearing out needles faster, do you think it would sew ok on paper and card stock? I sew junk journals and paper crafts, using paper and thin fabric.
@@sunrisequiltstudio I bought one at Joanne craft store just a little while ago! I’m so excited and I’m even thinking about venturing into sewing other things!
Hello, I just bought this machine, can I use any bobbin, or does it have to be of a specific type? Is that from my old machine I have many metal bobbins, can I use them? Thank you very much !!!!!
Ho da poco acquistato questa macchina da cucire e mi trovo benissimo. Vorrei sapere se posso regolare la pressione del piedino in base al tessuto da cucire o se la macchina lo fa già automaticamente. Grazie per la risposta
There is not a feature where you can adjust the pressure of the presser foot. All you can do is adjust the thread tension using the dial that is on the top front of the machine to keep good tension on your stitching.
Great video, thanks for demonstrating the blanket stitches! I am just getting started but that was one if the things I really want to use. Do you have any videos showing how to use it when piecing 2 scraps or squares together on a top quilt? Thanks so much!
There's no reason you can't use a screwdriver from an older machine as long as it fits the slot on the screw. As we get older, dexterity holding tools is more of an issue. After watching demos on Sewing Parts Online, the biggest issue I see with this is the area between the needle and the right part of the machine (the work space) is not very wide for quilting a large piece. It doesn't have a knee lift or thread cutting feature (the scissors button). But for the low price, it comes with a lot of feet and stitches and a nice large extension table.
I'm having a problem threading my machine, which hook am I threading when I get to the needle, and can you show me in detail how to use the auto threader. Thanks
Hi everyone hope your all doing great. How do I fix the E1 error on the singer patch work sewing machine. Can anyone help me please I just got the machine a few months ago .
It is good for using the embroidery to secure applique. It doesn't come with an embroidery module. I have done a little free motion quilting with it, but I'm not good at it and usually use the walking foot for quilting with this machine.
What is the round thing on top of your sewing machine it’s over the word singer I have the same thing but I’ve never used it it says auto and it’s got an arrow pointing to the left and arrow pointing to the right
Also I’ve had my machine less than a year I have a ton of sewing to do but I am having problems with my machine right now it will not feed the fabric through
The manual has instructions and diagrams that show you how to thread the machine. If your machine didn't come with a manual you can download one on singer.com
hi i just bought same machine my question is how to change the needle to quilting needle i have all purpose needle is good for quilting but i'm having trouble of changing the needle can you please help me out it's first time for me to make quilt for my granddaughter and thanks
Use the little key that came with the machine accessories and loosen the screw on the right of the needle bar. Pull the needle out, noticing that the flat side of the needle is facing away from you and towards the back of the machine. Insert the new needle with the flat side of the needle facing away from you. (The curved side should face you). Push the needle up as far as you can and tighten the screw with your fingers, then tighten it a bit more with the key.
Did you quilt that large quilt in the background on this machine? What is the largest size quilt that you have done on it? Do you find that you have enough room [where your right had would go] to do large quilts?
I do my quilting on a longarm machine. I haven't tried a large quilt on this machine, only small projects. The harp is quite small so I think it would be difficult to get a large project quilted on this machine.
@@sunrisequiltstudio Thank you. That star quilt behind you is very pretty. I am enjoying your review videos and just saw the video with different stitches using this machine. Thanks for taking the time to do those.
I really don't know how many layers exactly. I have only sewn with cotton or with a quilt sandwich which is about 3/8" thick but not dense. If you want to sew with heavy fabrics such as the faux leather and canvas, I would make sure to use a heavy duty needle. This isn't marketed as a "heavy duty" machine, so I don't know if it has been tested for heavy fabrics.
I can do a video on that. In the meantime, here is a Singer video you can check out. It is showing a different machine, but the principles are the same: ruclips.net/video/W_UqIpY-uRg/видео.html
Can you offer any advice on how well this machine handles delicate (lace, mesh) and stretch fabrics? I do quite a bit of costuming, dancewear, swimwear, etc. and I need something that will keep things in place and not tear them up. Thanks!
I was told to try using spray starch to stabilize fabrics that can be ironed. Also, maybe start with a small piece of tissue paper that you can just tear off. Good luck.
What oil does this machine use? My manual says to use “singer brand machine oil” and NOT to use all purpose, but all I see on the market is all purpose?!
You can buy Singer brand machine oil at JoAnn's or Michael's, or even Walmart, and the bottles do say "all purpose", so I wouldn't worry about using it. You can use the oil for other machinery as well. I think they just don't want you to use a different brand because the Singer brand is formulated for Singer machines.
I bought this in the spring on sale too at JoAnn's and because of Covid I had no free lessons ....not realizing we'd still be fighting this...it has been hard for me to learn some of the minor, yet important details. Thanks for sharing. My question is: I was making a set of potholders and I cringed every time on the final sewing together, hoping that all that fabric (quilting cotton , two layers, and 2 layers of batting) would feed through, it was sluggish, the foot doesn't go up very high...should I have used the clear "rocker" type foot that you used to ease it through...nothing broke but I saved for so long to buy this..don't want to mess it up? Also, I have been using my regular spool of thread on the holder that is horizontal is that okay? which do I need to use?
The clear foot may help a bit, but when you are going through that many layers a heavier needle would probably be more help. You can try a 90/14 needle. There is also a gadget called a "Jean-a-ma-jig" that helps sew over areas that are thick such as when you are hemming jeans. They are sold by Dritz and only cost about $5 US.
Hi there! (1) a very strong sharp Quilting needle of the correct size for your fabric and thread; and (2) You will want to try the Walking Foot (also called an "even feed foot") it is designed to handle multiple layers, esp. for quilting. It also works great for slippery fabrics or where one layer doesn't want to play nice with another layer. Note that this is the "quilting features" version of their 7258 Stylist (?) machine of the same number -- it just doesn't have a "Q" after. Don't be shy, let the machine and feed dogs, and walking foot do the work.
If singer is watching this, I just got my machine yesterday I was putting the table together into the machine and I noticed u have to push it in kinda hard to snap. N that puts me on the edge cuz I’m afraid of breaking it and the pointers edges of table to snap it into the machine feel weak.
I thought the table was a bit hard to snap into place the first couple of times I put it on, too. It may get a bit easier with time. I don't remove my table very often. I usually just leave it in place. I only take it off if I need to sew something like a sleeve and I've only done that twice since I've had the machine.
You may find that it is difficult to get through several layers of denim. I think it will work fine with sewing regular denim seams, but I don't know if it will handle flat-felled seams. I haven't tried to make jeans with this machine, but when I was making masks and sewing through 6-8 layers of cotton it struggled a bit. I also didn't have a heavy needle inserted in the machine at the time. If you can find a jean stitch needle that may help.
Thank you for this video. I just got my Patchwork and so far so great . But seriously singer needs a pamphlet of instruction.

Hi Ingrid,
How are you doing with the machine?
LOL.
I have this machine and it's one of my favorite ..I have 2 industrial machines but for every day light weight sewing it's amazing
Glad it was helpful!
How do you find the machine handles the thick bulkiness of the masks? I have one and it tends to stall on thick fabrics.
@@pamelashorter1215 So far, so good. I've been making masks from quilter's cotton and I haven't had a problem.
@@lindaraffaele4116 thank you
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
I am retiring a 40+ year old singer machine. it'wanted
@@annfoehner4240 Yes, I can do a video on the needle threader. I'll work on that soon.
Nice explanation on how this machine works I have it an just took it out of the box to start using it.
Thank you! I just purchased my machine yesterday yay! I really appreciate your video as it made me feel a lot more secure I almost panicked when I thought I had the wrong presser foot trying to do a fancy stitch LOL your video saved me a lot of time thank you so much God bless
I'm glad the video was helpful.
I got my machine in sept of 2019, as a beginner i love it. I do struggle with the threader. Thank you , doing this tutorial.
I love mine and wow the lint build up!!!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. You did a great job.
Appreciate sharing all the features on this video 😊
I just purchased it online at JoAnn’s $229.00 on sale today
Just bought this machine snd love it
Thank you for your overview it was helpful. Can you advise on how to raise the needle if it gets stuck in the down position?
It depends on why the needle is stuck. If it is from a thread tangle, try cutting the thread with a small pair of scissors or your seam ripper. You can also try removing the needle from the machine by loosening the screw that holds the needle in the needle bar. That should allow you to raise the needle bar and remove the needle. Then you need to figure out why the needle is stuck in the down position.
I just purchased a similar..this helped alot
Thanks so much for all your time. I'm looking also and I'm sold now thanks!!
Ok I got one yesterday,! thanks again
Can you demonstrate machine quilting with this machine? Thank you
I just bought mine today thank you for this video
You can download a manual at singer.com. Have fun with the T-shirt quilt.
Thank you for this helpful video. Can you drop the feed dogs on the machine to free motion quilt? Thank you from the uk
You can't drop the feed dogs, but it comes with a cover plate to cover the feed dogs.
Thank you.
I don't know about the watts the motor has. I couldn't find any information on that, but it has 120Volts. The manual says the LED light is 0.3watts.
@@sunrisequiltstudio Thank you very much for the information.
thank you so much.
Singer no longer provides pronted manuals. You can download them from their website though.
I haven't tried quilting with this machine since I have a longarm. I'll have to give it a try.
Does this machine come with a free-motion quilting foot OR a darning foot? If so, is it open toe or transparent? Thank you
For quilting or going through layers use a walking foot with this machine and it works great. Singer has one.
Thanks for this ... its number 36 I can't work out how to use, have you covered this one?
No I haven't made a video on that. My machine is currently needing to be repaired, so I don't know when I'll get to do another video on that machine.
Hi. Thank you for the overview. I just purchased this machine. Can you tell me what stitch you would use to edge material so it doesn't unravel? I'm trying to avoid doing a double fold over. Ty
Stitch no. 10 is possibly the closest to the overlocking stitch, but any zigzag close to the edge of the fabric will do
Could i please get your opinion on what the best setting would be to do a blind stitch on a pair of dress slacks
Thank you very much
I have tried sample quilting with twin needles and it did fine. I haven't done a full project, though.
How big can the stitches gou ..or wide can it gou ...can you show us please ..i whant to buy me one ..
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I don't learn by reading. Great job.
Sunrise Quilt Studio thanks so much. Again, a great video I found very helpful. 😊
Great video. Where did you find the extension plate from?
It came with the machine.
Other than wearing out needles faster, do you think it would sew ok on paper and card stock? I sew junk journals and paper crafts, using paper and thin fabric.
Yes, I think it would.
@@sunrisequiltstudio I bought one at Joanne craft store just a little while ago! I’m so excited and I’m even thinking about venturing into sewing other things!
I love this machine Thank u for these awesome tips 😍😍😍
I’m still trying to figure out how to back stitch?
Hello, I just bought this machine, can I use any bobbin, or does it have to be of a specific type? Is that from my old machine I have many metal bobbins, can I use them?
Thank you very much !!!!!
You will need class 15J bobbins for this machine.
Thank you for the review. You said it is self lubricating. So after a year, you haven't had to oil it? Does it have an oil reservoir?
The only place I have to oil is the bobbin case and I do that every time I clean it.
@@sunrisequiltstudio Thank you.
Very nice tutorial. Thank you 😊
Great video, thanks for demonstrating the blanket stitches! I am just getting started but that was one if the things I really want to use. Do you have any videos showing how to use it when piecing 2 scraps or squares together on a top quilt? Thanks so much!
If you mean using the blanket stitch on a quilt top, I have a video coming out soon that I show using it on an applique block.
@@sunrisequiltstudio great! That's exactly what I was trying to communicate. Looking forward to it!
Where do you set the tension, and how?
There's no reason you can't use a screwdriver from an older machine as long as it fits the slot on the screw. As we get older, dexterity holding tools is more of an issue. After watching demos on Sewing Parts Online, the biggest issue I see with this is the area between the needle and the right part of the machine (the work space) is not very wide for quilting a large piece. It doesn't have a knee lift or thread cutting feature (the scissors button). But for the low price, it comes with a lot of feet and stitches and a nice large extension table.
Do you happen to recommend a certain machine?
There is no room for any kind of screw driver other than the one provided when removing the throat place. That whole area is tight.
I'm having a problem threading my machine, which hook am I threading when I get to the needle, and can you show me in detail how to use the auto threader. Thanks
Shirley - watch this video. I show in detail how to thread the machine and use the auto threader; ruclips.net/video/ZTtc0DXZt64/видео.html
Can the automatic threader be removed??
Thank you!
I think the machine case would have to be opened in order to remove it.
Hi everyone hope your all doing great. How do I fix the E1 error on the singer patch work sewing machine. Can anyone help me please I just got the machine a few months ago .
how to use the buttonhole attachment. found the review enlightening,
I haven't tried the button hole attachment.
Please how to attach walking foot . Thank you.
Is it a good machine for free-motion quilting and embroidery?
It is good for using the embroidery to secure applique. It doesn't come with an embroidery module. I have done a little free motion quilting with it, but I'm not good at it and usually use the walking foot for quilting with this machine.
What is the round thing on top of your sewing machine it’s over the word singer I have the same thing but I’ve never used it it says auto and it’s got an arrow pointing to the left and arrow pointing to the right
That is the theead tension. You can tighten or loosen the thread tension by moving that dial.
Also I’ve had my machine less than a year I have a ton of sewing to do but I am having problems with my machine right now it will not feed the fabric through
Ive been waiting for the part where the start from the thread and follow the numbers and how to thread....I'm just new to this idk how to go about it
The manual has instructions and diagrams that show you how to thread the machine.
Hi Evon I think they cover that in the the CD that came with it. But if I ever need to find out how to do something I search for it on RUclips.
How do you lower the feed dogs? On the website it says to cover feed dogs for free motion quilting - cover with what?
There is a small plastic cover plate in your accessory box that snaps over the feed dogs.
I didn’t have one.
Do the feed dogs lower on this machine??
No. You have to cover them with the cover plate that comes with the machine.
I have it, I love it. I just can't get to grips with twin needle sewing with it.
I haven't tried twin needle sewing with this machine.
How many layers can this machine take? I sew faux leather, cotton, Muslim, canvas fitting outdoor fabric?
I really don't know how many layers exactly. I have only sewn with cotton or with a quilt sandwich which is about 3/8" thick but not dense. If you want to sew with heavy fabrics such as the faux leather and canvas, I would make sure to use a heavy duty needle. This isn't marketed as a "heavy duty" machine, so I don't know if it has been tested for heavy fabrics.
Can you show to use the quilters foot. I'm making place mats
I have a video posted called Free Motion Quilting with a Singer Patchwork. It may have what you are looking for.
I have looked in the Singer manual & have been trying to find a video but can't figure out how to attach the darning foot! 😕
I can do a video on that. In the meantime, here is a Singer video you can check out. It is showing a different machine, but the principles are the same: ruclips.net/video/W_UqIpY-uRg/видео.html
Did u say this machine does or does not do embroidery? The box says yes so I wanted to make sure.
It has decorative stitches, but if you are looking for a machine that has an embroidery unit with it, this machine doesn't have it.
So can I make a baby quilt on this. I sure hope so. I haven’t used it a whole lot since I got it last year
I think you could.
Enjoyed, what do you use for free hand quilting
I use my Gammill Classic Plus longarm machine.
Can you offer any advice on how well this machine handles delicate (lace, mesh) and stretch fabrics? I do quite a bit of costuming, dancewear, swimwear, etc. and I need something that will keep things in place and not tear them up. Thanks!
I haven't tried stretch fabrics on this machine, but it did well with lace.
I was told to try using spray starch to stabilize fabrics that can be ironed. Also, maybe start with a small piece of tissue paper that you can just tear off. Good luck.
Thank you!
I think they just don't want you to use a different brand because the Singer brand is formulated for Singer machines.
when the needle stops, does it automatically go to the down position?
Only if you have the needle position button turned on to the down position.
Does it do serging to connect ends
No, it doesn't do serging.
WHAT KIND OF BOBBIN DOES THE PATCHWORK SINGER MACHINE TAKE? IS IT A 15?
It takes a 15J bobbin.
Where can I get the booklet on this machine
If it didn't come with your machine you can download it at singer.com.
Did yours come with a instruction book
Yes, it did.
How does one backstitch. Is it a secret? Can't find it. My other machine has a button for that. This may be a breaker for me.
It is the button that looks like a U-turn sign.
Does it have a serpentine stitch? I use that in the biggest width (7) setting to quilt.
Yes it does have a serpentine stitch.
How do you put on that shelf
It slides into a couple of notches in the machine.
I just purchased this machine two weeks ago and my purpose is to sew jeans and blanket but I heard you said it wouldn’t . Is it true
I bought this machine several years ago and the foot pedal quit working. The button on front works but I really wish the pedal hadn’t stopped working.
Mine did that a few months ago. I never did figure out what happened to cause it.
This machine came with a quilting foot, does the feed dogs adjust for this? I couldn't find the place to lower the feed dogs.
Judy Smith you pull the sleeve out, it is in the back
You have to use the plastic feed-dog cover that comes with the accessories. There isn't a way to lower the feed dogs.
