  • How to fit an electrical socket box into breeze block using our Quadcut Square Hole Cutter.
    Drill used was a cordless DeWalt drill.

    What s the round drill bit called though? I want one of those? I could squat up the hole quicker with my hammer and scutch quicker than the square box cutter

    how you going to run the wires now, cant go in the side or back, you have 2x3 studs, just mount to back of block and run wires in the side,

Not to mention the rot, insect damage, fact that wood is vulnerable to moisture, the fact that its generally weaker than other materials like steel or concrete. This is why Americans are impressed when a building lasts 250 years while the rest of us have structures that last a millennium

      scwfan06 Couldn't agree more, and they still uses boxes of steel some places. We stopped with that shit 40 years ago. And don't forget their screws on switches and etc. They're also from the 60s.

      actually, most of the wiring is dune onderground, and yes, even high voltage stuff, isn't possible in any other way in the city
      even in smaller towns the powergrid is entirely underground, the only free hanging powerlines are either on the country or for really long distances connecting the city to the power source
      and lanterns are powered underground since the 80's at the least, most likely even longer, no matter where, even in the most remote villages
      also, many small villages are equipped with LED street lights now

    This is not just any ordinary Dewalt cordless drill. It's a Dewalt hammer drill. Impressive.

      It's not a hammer drill, it's a rotary hammer. You can tell by the shaft of the bits. A hammer drill bit would have a smooth shaft, where the shaft on the bits have slots, making them a version of SDS (Special Direct System, first developed by Hilti and Bosch), either SDS Plus or SDS Max. Based on what I'm seeing, it looks like SDS Plus, SDS Max is much bigger.

    saw you in tv Event in rich. Goid idea but looks like not solid. Also, we need a diferent size of square hole. Btw, I cut faster by hand if the wall is plasterboard :p

    The tool being used isn't a cordless drill, it's a rotary hammer. You can tell by the shaft of the bits.       It's a cordless SDS drill which is a cordless drill... TECHNICALLY its a cordless SDS rotary hammer drill but its still a cordless drill

    That cordless drill is for light/medium - hammer/chisel use. You need a more powerful corded drill to carry out the job correctly, hence why it's not working effectively.

      This is just a demonstration video to show the tool working, so obviously there are no incoming wires. The blocks were held in place with a specially made steel frame so we could drill and test the product fully by replacing the blocks.

      shane j Simple, clip/cap your cables to the box (in zone of course) then knock out a bit of the brick on the top/sides/bottom where the cables will enter.

    Is this for applications where you don't want to run conduit over the top of the cinder block? I take it you would then be drilling behind the box to run your cables? Otherwise, I don't see the point of this...

      In the U.K and Ireland this is the standard Box size in your home and cinder block would be the norm thus the reason for the rough out.... the walls are chased with a little trech cut into same to carry the cables to that box

    That concrete does not look very solid. That blade is way too thin to be strong enough to be able to hammer drill 5,000 PSI concrete. Something about this looks fishy.

    The electrician that came to us last week spent ages beating out all the holes for sockets with a blunt bolster and a claw hammer, didn't even have a lump hammer. The noise drove me fucking nuts. 'TING, TING, TING, TING, TING, TING', etc for ages. This would have saved time, money and my ears If he comes back I'm defo gonna' show him this vid :-)

    Easy enough to do in a nice soft cinder block, not so easy in real concrete. Makes recessing a box easy, but you still can't recess conduit or wire to it. Nice try, but not worth it.

    or you could just use an angle grinder, a diamond blade, and the good old fashioned chisel. Just as quick and no special expensive tool required.

    I'd get the sack if I turned up for work with that kit. Pissing about changing the attachments for one bleeding single back box. The time it took him to chop that backbox in, I and any other competent spark would of had at least 3-4 chopped in with a good old hammer drill and bolster attachment. Waste of money and time consuming.
