I have had my machine for four years and I learnt so much by watching this video. I mainly sew quilts, but I occasionally repair clothes and what I learnt will help sew much. Thanks
I’ve had this machine for almost four years. I have seen something new and EXTREMELY USEFUL several times during your video, and I’m only at the halfway point! Thank you!
Like many others, I have owned my 9450 for a while now, since May 2022, and yours is the best in depth instructional video I have seen. I learned so much and I'll refer back to it often, I'm sure. Thank you!!
Hello! Thank you for watching! If you ever need any extra accessories or additional supplies, check out our website, SewSewStudio.com. We'd be happy to help you. Happy sewing!
Just got this machine today. Found your video and, WOW, so informative and I appreciate very much how much detail you shared. Can't wait to get started tomorrow. Thanks, from Arizona.
Thank you so much for this VERY informative video. Instructions were actually more understandable than the tutorial DVDs that came with the machine (few computers even have a player installed these days!). I had a little buyer's remorse because operation wasn't intuitive for me, but my confidence is slowly returning. I'm new to this brand, so the manual doesn't help as I need to have a tutor walk me through everything the first time so I can see her doing what she is explaining. I like being able to rewatch as I do it myself with her. Very happy that I stumbled upon this.
So glad you enjoyed this video! It can be daunting getting to know the screen, but trust us, it will become more intuitive the more you use it. Enjoy sewing with this awesome machine!
Thank you. I ordered my machine yesterday in Australia. Im watching everything I can before my machine arrives from interstate. This has been the best and most detailed user video I’ve seen in my research.😊
Hi Sean, thanks for watching! We're glad you found our video helpful, and we hope you enjoy your new machine. It's a fantastic workhorse that will serve you well!
Fantastic video as I just purchased a 9450. The first video I’ve viewed that was clear and the camera was in the right place virtually throughout. Many thanks.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I purchased my machine during the pandemic and never received any instruction with it. I learned so much from this video. Can't thank you enough!
Great video, very informative. I'd love to see chapter markers put in because I won't remember it all and want to come back to review/practice different techniques.
This was *such* a helpful video❣️ I’ve used mine for years now & just scratched the surface as to what it can do, I absolutely *LOVE* this machine❣️ Thanks 😊
Just a suggestion. Maybe make videos during non working hours. Excellent video. I am seriously thinking about purchasing this machine. OMG! When your Siri went off by mistake my phone answered her. Lol
This was an excellent video and quite informative. I just got this machine last week and was quite intimidated at first as I've never had a machine with so many functions and stitches. Now i feel more comfortable with using it. Thank you so much for doing this video!
I agree - that screen can be super intimidating. But once you start playing around with it, it's amazing and you won't be able to go back to a regular sewing machine. Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video, it is such a blessing to me, a new owner of this machine. I followed along with you and learned so much.
Lots of information here. Wish it had chapter markers because of the length of this video. Sure would be great to access the area I need via chapter markers!
So excellent, thank you very much! I just attended a new owners training and they didn’t cover half of what you showed. Thank you again! I will buy that table and insert from you very soon.
Thank you for watching, and we're so glad you enjoyed the video! When you're ready to purchase the table and insert, you can email us Store@SewSewStudio.com or call us at 678-661-0201 and we'd be happy to help you! In the meantime, happy sewing!
Thank you-very helpful video. I haven’t been able to use my machine in a few years because of moves etc. and never got the lesson with it. Question-I want to prepare freezer paper for pp. if I turn off the top thread breakage and empty bobbin alerts, will it allow me to sew without the constant alerts that there is a thread issue?
Thank you. Have this machine and have using it, but learned more info. Nice camera work too. We gotta see into little areas, unobstructively and you do that ! Thanks for review of other obtions. Andious to see what computer access allows too.
Thanks so much I learned a lot on this video. I do hope we get to see more in depth sewing especially for free motion like a zig zag stitch on free motion . There are a few more buttons on the machine in the front I’m not sure about. I’m going to join your face book page hopefully all my questions will be right there. Anyway thanks again for a knowledgeable vid. Yes I do want to order some things so I’ll look into how I do that as well.
Your videos are a phenomenal wealth of information ty so much for being so thorough in currently have a janome 3160qdc I love her but need more throat space I’m a intermediate beginner quilter and trying to shove a 76x76 quilt through is a nightmare and I end up on the floor quilting it which machine would you suggest for my level that I can also grow with without needing a mortgage lol
Thank you for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! There are many machines that would be a good fit for you. The one that comes to mind is the ef72, which features 10" of throat space, tons of stitches, and a sturdy, all-metal base that will not bounce around when you're sewing. It's a more affordable version of the MC6700, a phenomenal machine and a Sew Sew favorite! In fact, they're almost identical, except for one thing: the MC6700 has AcuFeed and the ef72 doesn't. However, if you use a walking foot with the ef72, you can achieve a comparable effect to AcuFeed without breaking the bank! We'd be happy to keep discussing these machines with you. To reach us, please call us at 678-661-0201 or email us at Store@SewSewStudio.com.
Hi, thanks for this excellent tutorial, I’ve had my machine for about 4 years and had absolutely no idea it could do so many things. I wish I was nearer so I could come and visit your shop but being from England that’s not possible. I wonder if you could help me ? My machine on starting to sew birds nests the underside thread every time unless I hang onto the threads just as I start to sew. I wonder if you have come across this before ? Thanks once again for being so informative.
A lot of time, thread nests are from incorrect threading at the top. The most common issue that causes this is that the thread slips out of the thread take-up lever. There's a notch in the middle of this, and many sewists don't always pull it all the way to the front. Make sure that the thread goes past this notch and pull it all the way to the front of the takeup lever. Give it a try and see if that resolves your nesting issue. If it doesn't, I'd be happy to help you out further. -Priscila
Thank you so much for all the good info. I bought this machine and have been very disgusted in trying to learn how to use it. I now feel like there is hope. I will be contacting you about purchasing the table for the machine.
This is an amazing machine, I do hope you fall in love with it! We're happy to help with questions as you are learning. We'll also be happy to ship you a table - give us a call at the shop to order. 678-661-0201 Thanks for watching!
I am finding this video very informative. I haven't finished it yet but have a question about the scant 1/4 inch rather than the regular 1/4 in setting. Could you please tell me why you adjust it. I have tried it with both the 8.3 setting and the 8.6 setting and don't really see any real difference in sewing unless I'm doing something wrong. Also, do have an issue with "birds nests" on the back when you begin?
Thank you for watching, and I'm glad that you found it helpful! I adjust it because I find that the 8.3 setting is bigger than a quarter inch for me, so I move it to be to the 8.6 range so that I can get it closer to the precise 1/4" seam. You're not doing anything wrong; moving the needle to be at the 8.3-8.6 range is a matter of preference, and as you continue to sew, you'll find which setting you like best. Just don't switch the needle positions (between 8.3 and 8.6) within the same project, as that will throw off your seam allowances at the end. The most important thing in quilting is to stay consistent. As for the bird nests, try starting sewing further into the fabric (away from the edge) or you can also use a fabric leader. The nest is caused because the edge of the fabric is getting sucked into the feed dogs. Using a fabric leader or starting just a little bit further in from the edge should solve this problem. Please let me know if you have any other questions. You can call the store at 678-661-0201. Kind regards, Priscila
Actually, I've tested and discovered that the "birds nest" only happens when you start stitching after you've used the "scissors cutting" button. Try to stitch a line, then stop and cut without using the scissors button. Use the needle up and cut yourself. Next, start a new stitch line and you'll see there are no birds nest. I like the cutting button option, so I'll be using a fabric leader.
Great video, but I’m curious about why you don’t lock your machine before threading it. Every video I’ve seen, as well as the manual, says to lock the machine before threading.
Thank you for watching! To Sarah, locking the machine is just a preference. Since her foot is off the pedal and knows that she won't accidentally click anything to move the needle, she doesn't lock it. She has a lot of experience with the machines, though, so we suggest that if you're still learning your machine, go ahead and lock it just to be safe. :)
I love mine. The only issue I have had is when using the auto thread cutting button it frequently cuts the top thread so short it needs to be retreaded. How can I adjust that?
Hi Brenda, thank you for watching! We're so glad to hear that you're loving your machine. You can't change the length of the thread tail after cutting it, but if you pull your fabric to the back of the machine (instead of to the front) when you're done sewing, it should stop the thread from becoming unthreaded. If you need further assistance, feel free to call us at 678-661-0201 and we'd be happy to go over this with you in more detail. 🙂

I had my technician adjust the length of the cut thread when I took it in for its yearly maintenance.
Does the machine have a gentle serpentine stitch?
Yes. I, not at my machine, but I know you’ll find that stitch if you look at the stitch diagrams inside the lid.
It would be #20 under the "Quilt" category.
