      Alexander Vinnik might at least survive the russian ukrainian war if the prison in the usa is safe
      I woulf have added BITCOIN and MtGox into the title cause those are the keywords to attract viewers easier. I had known about the MtGox case but only till about 2017 or so by a 90 minute long german documentary without that whole turn around caused by Vinnik and this 650.000 bitcoin question.
      What a wonder that an ordinary mediocre programmer owns a house and private beach in greek - and of cause he is innocent and can explain that he was paid 1000$ per hour or so. Still wonder why the USA take so long to start the trial in a case that should be fully prepared years ago when Vinnik was first arrested in Greece.
      SBF and Vinnik then can exchange their experiences with the bitcoin mess and living as a rich.
      But what about the 2 russians behind Vinnik, Verner and the other - canon fodder in a Wagner PMC unit or russian army ?

      Good dude? He lost people's coins to the tune of $50k first time and falsified documents to keep exchange going basically having customers trade imaginary bitcoins when none where there. The he messed up again and again making the hole deeper and deeper finally stepping down when he turned first 50k screw-up into 500 million disaster. From there bitcoin went up like 200 times higher. At peak his screwup was worth like 100 billion lol. So he a good dude giving back 20% bitcoins left after losing 80% through incompetence and then fraud to cover his screwups? If he even tried keeping that money somone woulda put him 6 ft under. Only bright side to this is it took so long go through court's the 20% left is still probably more worth today than old customers woulda held out.

    Relevant context on Japan's legendary conviction rate. 1. That figure refers to trials, and includes guilty pleas, which must still be taken to trial, and 2. more than anything it reflects the discretion of prosecutors to not try weak cases. Comparing like to like, the US federal conviction rate for cases where charges are brought to their conclusion is over 99.5%.

    • @31knots50
      @31knots50 9 месяцев назад +22

      That 99.5% number is for federal cases. The feds dont charge you after the immediate onset of a crime. They let you buru yourself, and build a larger case not only for you but also your organization. Japan's rate is all levels of court

    Amazing documentary, seriously great work. One minor gripe though (and not specifically aimed at this video) is the perceived value of BTC, for example early on you say the stolen BTC had a value of $5B which is technically correct but since crypto is a speculative game that is simply not true. If the owner had dumped $5B worth of BTC onto the open market it would have caused a collapse of the price, literally every BTC placed on the market would have caused the price to fall making it a losing game, the more you sell the less you get back, sell too much and everything collapses leaving you with nothing. I watch a lot of crypto journalism (shout out Coffeezilla) and this is a truth that I never hear anyone raise, monopoly money only has value as long as its seen as a limited commodity, the more that's available on the market, the less its worth by default.

      You could easily offload $5 Billion of a near 1 trillion dollar asset? will it take a while? yeah, twap selling/multiple OTC deals with various desks across the space. will price drop when you first move those coins/start to sell? yeah of course, but it's not going to be anything longterm. Someone managed to OTC $5 billion worth of a semi illiquid shitcoin ($SHIB, granted they probably got less than 40% of its value) you could easily offload billions of dollars worth of BTC and have the market absorb it over time

I'm sure it hurt to lose but again how does your lost bit coin while mosh pitting in Europe relate. It sounds like you just want to recognize your voice has been heard. Well pointless or not it's been heard. Since you've been heard this round can you please keep comments that only relate to you to yourself. Moral of the story is that these guys who are running around stealing would have made a great deal more money, kept a great deal of more of the most valuable resource (time), and not missed the peace of a decent life with their families if had they just done good business instead of trying to fuck everyone over.
    Cheaters never truly win. Winners never cheat. Don't steal a dime when you can *earn* a dollar. Shame on these fuckheads.
