I have the same problem when i take it for a run and im berly running in 1st gear it feels like it want to choke or like if its cloth up also in the begging of second gear so i have to press the cluch and give it a litte more gas so i could run good
mass airflow sensor on the side of the throttle body underneath air cleaner pigtail is bad about corroding real bad and may need to clean sensor as well
I have a 1989 d21 3.0 it also does the up and down idle. Now it has rough acceleration, I replaced the fuel filter. Still has hesatation. Any thoughts?
Im Gonna have to try that. What helped my idle issue was replacing the tps. August of 87 was a bulletin for faulty tps sensors. If it's Kyushu and vin Is under 7k you have faulty Italian sensor. Same if it's us made and under 390k for vin. This is for xe rwd. VG30i had same problem
@Five hundred 20s look at the vin jam in the drivers door or engine bay. It will tell you what model engine, vg30e or vg30i, and the model of transmission and axle diffs.
@Five hundred 20s you'll want to download the 1989 service manual for the d21 hardbody since it's easy to find if you search "1989 Nissan d21 fsm". Most likely you have the vg30e so that manual will solve all your needs. 87-88 was a transitionary year for Nissan. They started TBI for the carburator models of the vg and z for emissions standards. I've only seen vg30i in the 86-88 200sx s12. Rarely is one in a d21 since the fuel injection is significantly better for the 4x4, however for a rwd 200sx it is the shit. Spin Dem tires all day. Sadly my 200sx is inline 4 and Nissan used and produced a limited number of the v6 crossmembers to fit a VG in an s12 200sx.
@Five hundred 20s if the label is faded then yep it's a vg30i, I have the Nissan service bulletins but they are not indexed online no more. What's the last numerical digits of your vin and is the first three letters 1jp or 1na? I can tell you if the tps is a faulty one based on the vin range, the other issue can be injector malfunction. ECU will not note this, basically the injectors won't close or open all the way causing them to leak and perform poorly making only one of the two injectors fire. Tps will cause a surge while driving, ie throttle becomes jerky and not smooth, feels like ignition cuts off and switches back on. ECU will detect tps issue if it does it for awhile cause the sensor/springactuator is failing itself. Injector leak or failure of injector A or B will cause an idle issue and limited power/misfires can be possible
You know my Nissan sound the same way after I change the motor out. After a week of driving 12 mins to work n back home, I lost all compression on cylinder three and four. witch I’m pretty sure is a bad head gasket. I hope you have better luck than me
Idk if it’s too late man but what helped me figure it out was I took the air cleaner off and shoved the hoses to the top of the throttle body and played with em as it ran putting my finger over each one if it sucks air and Boggs it goes on the out side progs if it pushes air it goes on the inside
pulls codes to know if it is tps or maf or something codes can find. guessing it could be injectors. you can take them out and replace rubber and filters. I only did that because I had a code that told me injector leak.
cris alonzo well the old man who I got it from had a like a white cloth to check the oil . Somewhere close to where the filter gets the air so ended up stuck into it . Take it off . Runs just a lil better but you still can notice the problem

The engine is 'hunting' which means any number of problems. Misrouted hose, dirty connectors, etc.
So did you found the problem with it?
Pcv or egr valve, possibly dirty.
Mine does the same thing I think it just is heating up and the carb is starting up

Distributor spark plugs and plug leads should clean that up. Vg thing
Had the same issue new fuel pump fixed it.
Also check the throttle position sensor
Finally I found the problem . A lot of air leaks but the gaskets on the tbi were the problem

I have that same problem now on the same cylinders has it been fine since replacing the gasket ?

Its impossible for yours to have 10 spark plugs haha you cant count the wires its literal spark plugs
8 of the wires are for the spark plugs and the other 2 are the ignition coil. Yes it still counts as a 4 cylinder but it's got duel ignition.

My moms had the exact same issue. You had to let it warm up before you could put into first and drive.
Where is your distributor set asking since i moved mine and it doesnt have a tach and I cant figure out where to set mine lol 😂

What's a tbi means
Throttle body injected...they have a single injector in the carb, its was when they were transitioning from carb to fuel injection.
