For many years I have jokingly referred to Alton as "The Oracle" that I must consult before embarking on any new culinary experiment (that is trying a new recipe). His latest good deed is how to wash hands, I'm taking this to Sunday School to teach the kids how to wash hands.
I love the video... But may I suggest: 1. Don't turn off the faucet while soaping up... That's the CDC guideline to hand washing 2. Yes, bag of paper towel is nice but you are also laying the bag on the countertop, touching the pouch with your clean hands. Perhaps not laying on a countertop in a public bathroom. Takes some thinking through, but anything but the countertop 🤮 3. You can turn the faucet off with another piece of paper... Again CDC guideline, not mine. If you don't have it use the paper towel you just dried with to turn off faucet or forearm or elbow.
Was looking to see if someone else noticed the paper towel mistake. However it's not just the bag touching the counter, but also touching it with your contaminated hands prior to washing them. Picking up the bag, and touching the contaminated bags surface with your "clean" hands defeats the good wash job.

I think your statement is unintentionally ambiguous, but you mean to say that he did wash his thumbs as it appears to be the case in the video. Good info though, because I think I probably am one of those people that don't wash the thumbs enough. I'll have to stay vigilant on that.

They got soaped up more or less because they were in close proximity of the lathering action. The left one more than the right one wile "wringing" his hands, which is due to the fact he is right handed. He did try to get his finger nails involved in the lathering but didn't do the thumbs nails at all. So Alton is like the rest of us. Anyway to really get stuff from under ones nails, one should use a brush. Better still during these times, keep the fingernails as short as possible so no nasty stuff can collect there. I hear already all the women gasp in shock who love their weird looking talons.
I don't agree with censorship but with that being said, I was glad to see a kid friendly version. Then I saw threats to Alton over the original even though there was a "friendly" version available. Now that the original, edgier version is no longer available, I wonder how often Karens are going to resort to more threats to censor your productions. Bad parenting being blamed on media is bad parents taking no responsibility for their laziness.
My ex, who couldn't even feed himself, kept watching Good Eats and telling me how to cook. I enjoyed Good Eats, and liked learning the science behind cooking, and used that info for my own recipes. But there was one last time he mansplained The Alton Method to me, and I stopped feeding him. Food was in the house. But being self employed, I was able to cook, eat, refrigerate leftovers and clean up before ex got home from his professional alcoholic bar. So I kinda had a bit of a bitch with Alton. By proxy. But his show always had the science of the process behind it, and I was always that kid who said why. Now I'm that old lady that says why, and knows how to read big words. RUclips can be an excellent short cut. Thank you, Alton Brown.

I have found I have several bar soaps. My question is does it matter what type? Some are labeled deoderate (spelling?), and others "body" soap. Would these all work regardless of type?
I was wondering the same thing. He mentioned antibacterial isn't the way to go, which I've heard years ago and stopped using it, but would any bar soap do? Ivory, Dove, Lever, etc?
I personally like the Texas Health Departments instructions, and would work with Alton Fans, wash your hands like you just finished cutting jalapenos and have to put contacts in.

My kids didn't want to watch until the sounds of the cleaver, and then they came out of the woodwork so they could see the entire thing. They won't want to watch this "edited" version but I have to admit that I don't look at my dishwasher in the same way after attempting to yield my knife skills (which are admittedly worse than Alton's dog's knife skills).
My only concern..you touched the baggie or paper towels both before and after you washed. Same with the tin. Since it doesn’t survive on paper as well as it does on plastic or metal, remove paper towel before washing and use the paper towel to close the tin after.

as a person who works in surgery, rings harbor a ton of germs under them and cleaning specifically under that ring is also highly recommended. Or take them off and wash them separately!
Lois Vick yes, but, that’s also a good way to lose them. I just don’t wear one unless I’m feeling fancy, which is like three times a year. Learning about ring evulsion also tempered my enthusiasm for finger bling.

Medical professionals use a dry towel to turn on and shut off the water faucet. At least use a dry towel to turn off the faucet.

It bothered me very much . Our son was born missing has arm Bellow his elbow amniotic band syndrome, so that's why I found it distasteful!

Yes. Any bar (non antibacterial) soaps will work. I recommend Dove or Ivory personally. They don't dry out the hands as much.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a good lotion that doesn't leave a greasy or sticky residue on your hands? All of the handwashing and cold weather makes for dry, cracked skin
Beth Tapen Try Pond’s cold cream. Old-fashioned, I know, but it does feel good. Also, anything by the brand “Temple spa.”

the past few years i've been using a store brand, Aloe Based after sun lotion. (creamy white and lotion-y, not the blue stuff with lodocaine).. this kid of stuff... www.walmart.com/ip/Banana-Boat-Moisturizing-Aloe-After-Sun-Lotion-16-Oz/4276 but i've always gotten the store brand.
I can't remember for the life of me what it's called... But it's got cow spots on it. It's amazing.

This is awesome! I thought the original was funny too. I think it’s pretty stupid that that one is no longer accessible. It was very obviously fake and there are things so much more violent graphic and inappropriate they should be worried about rather than AB being his delightfully goofy self.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, the CDC and WHO have not explicitly stated that cheese pulls do not prevent infection by COVID-19. You should probably do one of those videos too just in case.
