@@barnabu5 I think Billy got some of his chops from Richie Valens. Richie really was the first HARD ROCK guitarist and Billy Duffy kinda blended that early hard rock sound with the riffing mentality of Angus Young. The first time I heard The Cult it cut me off at the knees.
@@distantgalaxymusic1447thanks for your msg. Yup, Billy seems to have worn the Richie Valens style as well as influenced by his playing. Melt that with Angus Young and boom! Hard rockabilly??
Big influence on me wanting to play the guitar. Burned up the electric album coming out of high school. Me and my buddies would grab a 6 pack and ride these back roads of Texas jamming to "wild flower" good times and the best music. Thanks for your energy and style. 52 now and when i push that cd in it becomes 1988 all over again.
Good for BOSS on having this promo from Billy. I have The Cult on regular rotation in my vehicle to this day. I still have BOSS pedals from the 80’s - super reliable, heavy duty metal boxes, and as Mr. Duffy mentioned: they consistently sound good in live, loud venues.
At 68 years old, I’ve only recently become a fan of The Cult. I’m especially fond of the band’s “Sonic Temple” and “Electric” lineup. You’re among the rare guitarists who put a distinctive style together in short order. Your solid playing, and your gift for consistently coming up with great riffs are shining examples of knowing how to comp, especially for a powerhouse vocalist like Ian. Your work solidifies the concept of less-is-more. Keep rocking that White Falcon!
Saw the Cult at the Arizona State Fair last Saturday. It was a fantastic show. They were the consummate professionals. Billy rocked the house. Loved every minute of it. I'm a Rock and Roller for life.
Holy crap, I could listen to Billy's playing all day! Granted, it's simple, but God be damned if it ain't one of the greatest things things you've ever heard!
I've been playing now for 52 years, but I'll never forget the first time I saw She Sells Sanctuary with Billy playing that White Falcon. Wow! I wanted that guitar so bad, but at the time they were selling for @ 5 grand in the UK, so it was completely beyond me. Though I loved Page, Hendrix, and later found other awesome guitarists like Val, Satriani, Wilde, Dimebag etc. Billy, Charlie Burchill and The Edge have had the most influence on me as a player, as I love layers of texture in the stuff I write and play. Out of all of them, without doubt Billy is the coolest, and I love that he's still doing what he set out to do - make a living by playing guitar. Nice one fella! :)
One of my buddies who was not a Cult fan went to a show with me. At the end, he said «wtf, it's like the guitarist plays a solo from begining to end, he's always fiddling, doing little licks here and there, I've never heard anything like it». And that is Billy Duffy.
I am going to see them at Grey Eagle Casino Sept 14 for the 4th time, can't wait! Love this band and fun to play the songs on guitar. Duffy is one of the greatest underrated guitarist.
I'll say right now, it's a trip finding that out about Jamie. And that band to me was never quite as good without him. Always wondered why they would kick him out. But apparently he'd just had enough of it.
I love his playing......he does more with less. And I agree with him that for live.....it's damn hard to beat Boss. The are durable and they sound just fine. For someone who makes their living a session player, it's probably worth the going to the pricey boutique stuff. But that being said, Roland/Boss has knocked it out of the park with the Waza Craft line. These sound amazing. But for the life of me....why would they do a Waza tuner?
been a fan of The Cult forever, gotta say Billy is so very underrated and humble, I'd like to see Billy and John 5 do some stuff together, I think they'd have a lot of fun
Don't know why but I always thought he's American :-) But always love him and the Cult. Electric is my all time favorite hard rock album. You can't get rawer than that.
He is running a boss BF3 flanger, 2 delays a DM2 set at 400 milliseconds and a DD3 at 800. his overdrive is a tube screamer and he uses a whirlwind bomb clean boost. his phaser in this is a phase 100 but i have seen him with a boss ph3.
Makes me laugh how people blindly repeat things on the internet without actually having a clue if they are true or not. Firstly, he has three delays, the DM-2 and and two DD-3s. The DM-2 has a max repeat time of 300ms, so how could it be set at 400ms?? lol It's set at about 240ms or thereabouts. The DD-3 has a max repeat time of 800ms and NEITHER are set at the max. One is at about 300ms and the other at about 500ms. His flanger of choice is the BF-2. He has two overdrives, the tube screamer, having used both TS-9 and TS808s (previously using an SD-1) and a Kalamazoo Lovepedal, originally the silver version, later getting a gold one.
Came here for Billy but agree. Richrath was awesome with a unique sound. Those who only know the shlock from REO check out Golden Country front You Get What You Play For.
Billy Mskes it look pretty cool and eassy, but you have to put the hours in to make it all come together. Def one of the VERY BEST there is standing tall
Boss pedals are not what they used to be. I owned several Japanese ones in the 80s, my old DS1 eventually died and I bought a new one which sounded nothing like it. I talked to a Roland rep in London and he admitted that the chipset had changed. There was a Chinese company called Daphon that were making knock off Boss pedals a few years ago and they sounded better than the real thing because they had cloned the original Japanese models. The build quality wasn't so good though, they didn't last more than a couple of years of serious use.
Definitely one of the most underrated guitarists ever. I LOVE his guitar sound.
He’s the most underrated, stealthy, almost forgotten guitarist. The Cult is the sound track to my skateboard days as a kid.
Agreed !! Billy is such a badass..
Stealthy…good description !

Iconic guitar player....
Spent a 2 hour drive with my band playing the riff to “She Sells Sanctuary”...on a Casio keyboard. Drove them frickin’ nuts
🤣
Billy Duffy is one of the most awesome guitarists in the world. Good quality playing with feel. Sanctuary is timeless.

Billy is absolutely class and so underrated. As soon as you those first few bars, you know it’s Billy and The Cult.
this is great, Billy's a legend and what awesome tone.
presence, Nick McCabe similar magic live
His reverb setting is such a huge part of his tone and it's otherworldly amazing
An underated guitarist if ever there was one
What I like about this guy is he is a regular guy who got lucky with his music and admits it. Keeping it simple and tasty.

This guy is a legend. Period. Live his cuts and riffs as clean as anyone ever. Saw him in Memphis and Ian couldn’t keep pace. Truly one of a kind.
One of the greatest guitarists of all time. He's also a super nice guy in real life and is really a very giving person.

One of the great underated guitarists.
great player and nice down to earth guy, cheers Billy.
Thank you for sharing your stories. Your guitar playing inspired me to pick up and play the guitar. Keep on rocking Mr. Duffy! 🤙🤘
I love Billy's judicious use of the Flanger.

Love your guitar work on Sanctuary, beautiful.
Brilliant band! Love these guys sine the 80s.

What's the song during the "Johnny Marr" Section at the end?
Absolute gent xx
I didn't know Gordon Ramsey was in the Cult
Still never ever heard him come up with the original intro sound of fire woman.
Most underated guitarist in the history of Rock!
Aways been a fan
A true master
Yes, Boss makes quality pedals that are rugged and stand the test of time with Japanese craftsmanship equal to many boutique pedals!!
Live at the Marquee : best Les Paul rock sound
Total North Star for me as a player in a band backing up a strong vocalist
Cool ... brothers Grimm in the intro!
Wow i didn't realise most of the best guitarists are british!. Mark Knopfler, Billy Duffy. Eric Clapton, Saul Hudson (Slash)
Gilmore, Page, Townshend, Beck, Marr, Harrison, Iomi, Blackmore, Kossof, Lee, Green the list goes on and on 😊
Slash is American. One of the best guitarists ? Highly debatable
@@dougcameron6609 Born in Hampstead....London.....England
@@edward4288 ok but grew up in American. Definitely not British by culture. Maybe has Uk passport.
Boss pedals are reliable. It's true.
Don't know why but I always thought he's American :-) But always love him and the Cult. Electric is my all time favorite hard rock album. You can't get rawer than that.
do you think he looks like a cross between Gordon Ramsey, and David Beckham???? hehe!!

Sonic Temple is an all-time great album
ROCK GOD

Anyone know main mix of boss pedals he uses? Sounds like lots of flanged, delay and overdrive.... Anything else?
Know this video is about music and pedals, but damn, I want those boots and shirt more than the Boss Pedals :)

Great player, and a fellow Manchester lad! MCFC fan as well.
Is it carl martin pedals
The music they're playing behind him talking sounded like a bunch of hissing from his rig.
Saying "Billy Duffy, is most underrated guitarist" is just putting/saying it mildly
👍🏽👍🏽
Yeah Billy has his own patented sound which is remarkable when you consider how many great ones have their own irrefutable identity
d1, ph3and a dd3 is my california effects.... in that order.... all boss :)
When Englishmen want to live in California but still hail England... I never got it.
