What’s funny is that when I started getting into film in the 80’s, I would set my VCR to time record late night movies and watch them later. I had always heard that Psycho was a must see. I saw that it was going to be on one night so I set my VCR to record it. However, the first few minutes of the film were cut off because of the timer (cutting off the opening title credits). They actually aired Psycho II, but I didn’t know. So for a few years, I thought Psycho II was the first one.
It's weird that it's a good movie. Because you'd never think a sequal to a classic film by Hitchock(arguably the greatest filmaker of all time) could be anything but derivative, shlocky, and cheap.
@@BenJPics9925 Well, as long as you are not including this particular scene as one of the scenes that support your opinion, you may be correct. But this scene sucks green toe jam.
He did a great job in a few Brian DePalma films as well. DePalma, coincidently being a disciple of Hitchock, the one filmaker, among many imitators, who could make great Hitchockian thrillers. I think it's a shame and downright ponderous that filmakers today don't make films like Hitchock. Maybe they don't want to be compared to Hitchock, or DePalma for that matter? Both are hard to outdo.
They waited 23 years for another psycho movie (and it was now in color). What I never knew before psycho 1 was that janet leigh is the mom of jamie lee curtis from halloween.
@@blackmetalhead5883Psycho IV would be the 3rd sequel. you don't count the first film from 1960 as a sequel. a 4th sequel would have been called Psycho V.
This seems like the note could have been from Emma Spool or Mary. Emma because she was jealous of Mary. Mary because this was early in the movie when Mary was still helping Lila mess with Norman's mind. But if it was Emma, why did she want to then remove the note and thus make Norman look bad to the boss and co-workers? Maybe afraid the boss or Myrna would recognize handwriting? Fun to try to analyze these things. Just like with the many phone calls. Hard to always know for sure whether it was Lila or Emma, though most of the time we can be pretty sure which one it was.
Fun fact: Director Richard Franklin went to the same university as George Lucas, John Carpenter and Robert Zemeckis, U of Southern California. One night, he attempted to host a screening of Hitchcock's Rope. Hitchock rung him upon hearing about it. Franklin asked if he could give a lecture- which Hitchcock did. After that, they became good friends.
Dennis Franz played a great and very sleazy guy in this movie. We've met or come across guys like that...guys who smell like sweat, B.O., Brut, and a dirty ashtray.
That was Dennis' stock in trade in the 80's. The only characters I've seen him play that weren't that was Nathan in "City of Angels" and Andy Sipowicz after the third season.

I find it really sad that this movie faded into obscurity. It's an excellent sequel.

Yes I agree I remember seeing it way back in 1983 excellent movie
