@@FNGACADEMY 🤙🏽should’ve gone to SF instead of being a grunt. All that bullshit for nothing. At least in SF you do more than just train. You actually do it…. An I hope others see this comment. I wish I had. So now I’m not sure if it’s even worth going in again maybe not army to be SF. I know they all have their suck. But I’m just tired of this civilian life sometimes. I can’t stand peoples weaks mindset. Like I was personally thinking of doing navy EOD because they aren’t seals but are considered in the navy to be SF without being in JSOC kinda like marine raiders are only part of MARSOC for marines that could’ve changed but idk. but we all know the war is over. So I’m just thinking of going straight into the CIA and go SAD route for special activities division. If it means going medieval on some poor extremist to extract information on terrorist cell groups I’m down to do that.

I just picked up my old modified ALICE pack from the States and brought it back to Japan. Tactical Tailor shoulder straps, and my Aunt spent a whole weekend years ago sewing custom MOLLE webbing to the outside with some ultra-strong thread. Not having a separate compartment at the bottom makes it suck for accessing stuff compared to my issue ILBE though.
As for donning a heavyweight ruck, I like to do the "overhead flip", where you place the ruck upside-down in front of you with the shoulder straps really loose, stick your arms through, grab the pack and basically launch it over your head, almost like a clean-and-jerk.

Objects shifting in your ruck is a BIG DEAL. If heavier objects start shifting lower in your pack, you'll feel it and it'll impact your rucking comfort. You're already uncomfortable, so tighten your pack and don't make it worse than it already is.

OUTSTANDING!! I have many rucksacks, because I love hunting and camping! I have a couple FILBE's, a MOLLE 2, a large Alice pack, and a couple three day assault packs. But last year I purchased the Crossfire Australia 80 liter DG16. It's by far the best rucksack I own! The padding on the shoulder straps and waist belt are nice and thick. It has pouches for three, 3 liter water bladders, and a radio pouch on the inside. Also has mesh netting on both sides of the inside of it, and everything can be detached using the straps for the bladder and radio pouches, and velcro for the mesh. Has a separate compartment on the bottom for your sleep system. Has a removable lid with a mesh pocket that can be accessed from the inside or outside of the ruck. Also has an attachment to strap a helmet to the back, along with a pouch that can hold an E tool. Has another pouch in the lid that's lined with soft suede for eye pro, or anything else you don't want scratched up. Reinforced pockets for canteens, or a rifle. Because of the pass through MOLLE panels on the sides. The bottom of the ruck is reinforced, the stitching is OUTSTANDING! Basically has to many great features to mention. I got mine on sale during a 30% off sale. Otherwise it's pretty expensive. Not Mystery Ranch expensive, but in the 4-5 hundred dollar range. It's they're second largest ruck, can't remember the name of their largest ruck. But Brent 0331 on RUclips did a review of the largest ruck, even has a 10 or 15% off promo code. I have no affiliation with that company. But I'm so impressed with not only the quality of it, but the customer service is OUTSTANDING! And they ship it out fast! I suggest checking them out. I put two MOLLE 2 sustanement pouches on the the front, and two hydration pouches on the sides for extra storage that's accessible without digging through your rucks main compartment like you mentioned. This ruck literally makes the load seem about a quarter less heavy than my other rucks! For example, if you're carrying 80lbs it feels like 60lbs, and so on and so forth. It also doesn't make noise like yours, and most of mine when you're carrying heavy loads, or any loads really! Anyways, I apologize for the long comment. I just figured I wanted to put as much info on it as I could. Because someone may read this and benefit from buying one. They also have a RUclips channel, "Crossfire Australia". I've carried over 90lbs of meat and gear on hunting trips. Also just as much weight for camping trips miles out in the woods, where I have to carry everything in my ruck and on my battle belt. And was surprised at how well it handles the weight! Either way, great video! Love the topic! Keep fighting the good fight brother! Love your channel!!!🤜🤛🦅🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Your ALICE rucksack is different from mine. Bought it when I still in my second enlistment. Was 11C back in those days. Discharged in 1987. The only problem is the waterproofing on the top flap that peeled off. Flexseal was recommended for a reseal. Carried the M-29, 81mm mortar with it my ruck back in the day. That M-30 four-deuce mortar was way too heavy to carry. My ALICE ruck still has good seams good & nylon material. Over 30 years old now. Still good to go!

Ex AK big mountain expedition guide here…Use the load stabilizers that are attached to hip belt and shoulder straps to fine tune the weight distribution.
You’d be surprised how you can find fresh zones to torture instead of all on hips or all on shoulders.
Also a brand that I think is milspec and could carry loads like no other is mystery ranch.

  • @SgtSnark

Good video Buck. I just recently started using an external frame pack to carry heavier loads and I’m impressed with how it feels on my back. I’m a firefighter and for me it feels like I’m wearing an SCBA. You are correct that you have to make sure the weight is carried by the hips and waist. I’m running a Tactical Tailor MALICE frame with a Hidden Woodsman Tropical Lightweight Rucksack and the thing is bomb proof. To stop the shoulder straps from sliding and squeaking, I wrapped Velcro loop tape across the top bar. That solved the problem. I use the Mystery Ranch Scree 32 as my SHTF bag and the 5.11 Covert backpack as my EDC with a G26 and G17 magazines. Thanks for the video and thanks for your service.

Back when I was in we would drill out the rivvits and replace them all with bolts and locking nuts with washers after we 100mph tape wrapped the frame. it helped a great deal with the squeaking as well it helped with the survivability of the frame when you have 90-100 pounds of gear in there.

Idk if Mystery Ranch makes anything that can accommodate rucking, but I've used their 3-Day and Komodo Dragon for brief trips, cross country drives, weekend hikes and camping. Their "tri-zip" lets you open the bag from the top or literally straight down the middle without dragging everything out.

Does mean you're carrying all the heavy shit at the bottom though :/

I complain when I'm backpack elk hunting with a 60lb pack. On unsuccessful hunts (aka: most hunts) I just tell myself at least I don't have to make multiple trips with an elk quarter on my back.

A thing I never understood is why US militaries are still dealing with the Alice packs ... Why don´t you use mountaineering rucksacks? better desings, ideal for carrying heavy weight and not pulling you down like the alice...Is part of the suffering concept? even the brits been using their berghaus "bergen" for decades now that are mountaineering packs militarized...is time now to let the Alice go...

During BCT and AIT the most you’ll be buying is a haircut and hygiene. Some AITs are more lenient on what you can buy such as boots, but that MOS dependent. 11B you’ll be in OSUT (BCT and AIT together) so the likely hood of those angry 11B DS letting y’all go down to the PX for a weekend is probably super slim.

Unrelated question. But when do you take the dlab and do they give you time to study for it beforehand?

    • @fng_kurt9617
      @fng_kurt9617 3 года назад

The DLAB consists of a made up language that assesses your ability to learn a foreign language. There really isn't any way to study for the test. If you're currently enlisted you can take the DLAB prior to going to SFAS, that way at least youre fresh when you take it. Otherwise you just do it live!

Well i'm nearly a year too late, but, i ask, do you have any preference of other Nations Military rucks? Do other Nations do things better then get worse for example? Or does the US do the same? I am ex Brrtish Army of the 1980's when Rucks did not exist to the common soldier. I now live in the Netherlands getting really old now so cannot try out various Countries systems as my back will break just looking at them. The time i post this is 04/2022.
