Hey Buck, this was verbatim me in sfas. I crushed gate week, and went 8/8 on the star, but I was a terrible teammate in Team Week. I was so worried about making myself look good and I didn’t worry about my teammates and the team. This lead to me being a 21 day non-Select, dropped in the final formation. It was gut punch. It took a lot of self reflecting and I know I made mistakes and really was self centered. This hurt the team more than anything . I ended up commission and I am gearing up to make another trip to SFAS. My failure has lead to becoming a better leader and fully understanding what it means to lead and put the team and mission first. Thank you for all the videos.

Hi Buck - Thank you for your service! I've watched a ton of your videos, and they've really helped me learn more about SF. I have a few questions for you:
Mike Glover mentioned on the Jocko podcast that on his first deployment with SF, his job as an 18B was to train and lead the Afghan forces in weapons, tactics, QCB, etc; he said he was basically their "commander". Do only 18B's train and lead partner forces in this way? In other words, do 18D's only train the partner forces in medical techniques and not tactics/gunfighting/QCB? Are only 18B's leading the partner forces in raids/hits/etc.? I figured as an 18B yourself you would have some insight into this.
    Thanks!

    • @arod2104

A lot of people don’t realize but PSYOPS selection is one of the 4 Selection courses the Army offers in order to just continue training.
Most people think of Special Forces and Ranger for that matter.
The 4 courses of selection the Army offers are Special Forces, Rangers, PSYOPS, and Civil Affairs. I’ve completed the CA course myself. I should have went 18D. But I decided to stay in CA until I retired a few years back. I’ve got to meet some of the most professional and well rounded individuals out there. CA and PSYOPS is one of the best kept secrets in active duty Army. The various skills that this people bring to the table are definitely game changing. This field that you have chosen has lots of opportunities for professional development and taking advanced courses to better serve your Team. I wish you the best.

It’s crazy how different the Army is from unit to unit. I constantly reflect on my decisions that led me to a non-deployable conventional infantry unit where my days consists of getting griped at for my hair being too long by a fat bald SGM who claims that my slightly longer hair (which is within AR670-1) will somehow get me killed in combat and partaking in pointless layouts from 0930 to 1700. The lamest part of this is how I know that there’s adventure and more important ways to serve my country just across the airfield at Ranger Battalion and the SF Group. This has been my motivation to train up to attend and hopefully pass RASP. These videos really keep me sane, thanks Buck and hopefully I will make it into the SOF community.
